Thank you! It was my first custom fumo after all, the hair was a little wonky for my first try. Tried out a new fabric called fleece instead of minky (what I usually use) and instantly fell in love with the look of it! I as well. I am losing weight so I can be outside with my fumos and not be weird if I get spotted. It's not good for softs to be inside all the time. you can start wherever you want. 7, 9, 10, and 13 are generally regarded as the easiest. if you want to start "from the beginning" you'd be better off starting with 6 because PC-98 is irrelevant. it is moderately difficult and lacks a lot of QOL improvements introduced in 7. you should probably not start with 11 or 12. if you like fighting games you can also play those instead.

Start with 6, 7 or 8 depending on whichever one appeals the most to you. They're the least complicated gameplay-wise and are a good introduction to the basic mechanics used by the rest of the mainline games.
or if bullet hells aren't for you, you could just play the fan games. I recommend puppet dance performance, which is early pokemon but redone entirely to fit into touhou. new world, story, assets, types, etc.

Hey! Okuu anon here, for clothes I used something which is identical to official fumo clothes fabric, though it is hard to obtain. It's called "toyknit" (トイニット) and afaik only available in Japanese fabric stores like Yuzawaya or Okadaya. Since the fabric is hard to get without forwarding and whatnot, I suggest alternatives like cotton jersey or something similar, as it doesn't fray easily and is available in a lot of colours.

If you're in America it's quite simply because shipping between the two countries has ceased. Even if you're not in America, shipping planes out of Japan has dropped to double digits everyday, which is obscenely low.

getting a fumo actually is very easy! this is made even simpler when you use proxy services, such as buyee or zenmarket! as long as you have a valid shipping address, a paypal account (or card), and the fumobucks for it, you too can own your very own fumo!

here's a quick step-by-step guide from ordering via proxy services on zenmarket, for example:

1) make your account
2) add funds to your account (make sure you know how much yen you need + extra for shipping)
3) look for soft friends on a yahoo auction! in this case, since it auto-translates from JP -> ENG, that means you'll need to search for the object of interest with some keywords in JP: 東方 ぬいぐるみ will get you a list of auctions of touhou plush friends, mostly fumos!
4) find a soft friend that's within a reasonable price! newer fumos are more plentiful and usually go between $60 - $100 w/ shipping, whereas some soft friends are rare and go for $200+!
5) place a bid and hope for the best!
6) when you've won your bid, the person auctioning your soft friend will ship it to the proxy warehouse, who will then package it or wait until more shipments come in to package everything together!
7) any shipping costs will be paid here!
8) fumo ships and comes to...
8a) customs! no worries, if it gets stopped by customs for some reason, you usually just have to pay an additional fee. the vast majority of fumo shipments do not get hit by customs and go straight to...
8b) your doorstep within a matter of days or weeks!

there are also regular proxy services like treasure japan or white rabbit express that can take orders from online stores like suragaya which are always stocked, but these stores usually have limited options for fumopals. i hope that was helpful!

I'll probably use fabric paint for her eyes, I've actually attempted to paint her eyes using yellow fabric paint pen before, but it ended up being too watery and seeping into the skin of the fumo. It was a disaster... luckily I was able to wash the ink off. I will use proper paint next time due to their thicker consistency.
