Gensokyo has so many places but where is everything located in relation to eachother? Does a proper, readable map exist?

How long does it take for Marisa to go to Reimu? Where is the bamboo forest and the garden of the sun? Which temple is the closest to the village? How big is the Forest of Magic?

Let's map a geography of Gensokyo!

Check the Strange Creators of Outer World, 3d vol, they are already doing that

I always wondered how the barrier works exactly. I know there are certain places that function as gateways to the outside world. But what would happen if one would keep going on the same bearing until reaching the "edge of Gensokyo"?

You get warped back without noticing it. It's in one of the manga IIRC.

We know general nebulous things being near each other like SDM and Misty Lake, but I don't think the exact layout details are known.

They aren't really, it's some contributor(s) that are basically doing something similar to any other fan effort. There isn't any extra information being given, it's more like a fanzine column.

If I understand what Marisa says in >>23296347, then it's like the infinite corridor effect: you won't really warp, you're simply not going anywhere just like my life in the outside world... As long as you are facing forward, the landscape you saw the last moment will extend to infinity, but as soon as you turn back, you will notice you are exactly where you were before reaching the barrier.

But how canon is this manga? Did Zun ever mention anything about how the barrier deals with this problem?

Wasn't aware it was written by Zun himself.

Pretty much every official work is “written” by ZUN, isn’t it?

No, he “wrote” Cheating Detective Satori too.

Wouldn't say written by him, but he's involved in a way or the other.

The Inaba manga was pretty much all made by Arata which is a big reason why no one ever mentions it when talking about the setting. ZUN isn't credited for writing anywhere in it.
