Speaking of which, MG seems to be the only PC VN company having any luck with female customers, and that's because they're the company that's invested into otome. BL titles are somewhat surprisingly unpopular. Even yuri seems to be doing better than BL. No Thank You seems to have been an outlier partly because it was the first in a while and maybe because of its bara appeal.l

>> No.23149648

>>23149596
I think MG's recent string of BL flops is due to the titles they released.

Hadaka Shitsuji is a meme title that already had a fan TL released of it. MG's release was even done by the same translator of the fan TL version, which probably made many not feel the need to read it again.

As one BL fan pointed out, Hadaka Shitsuji was "a meme title that hasn't been relevant in years".

And then there's Hashihime. The premise sounds interesting enough, but the art is meh since it's a doujin title. And art is a big factor in popularity.

You ask this like there are actually industry standards for anything. Not testing at all is more common than you think because the goal is localization and not translation in the first place.

plus to check a translation you need another translator that actually knows japanese. Crunchyroll often hires people straight out of school, and I know for a fact that the early sekai project titles are full of translation errors they never patched out.

>> No.23150345

>>23149596
>that's because they're the company that's invested into otome.
This is true. Otome is popular far more than BL would ever be. The reason is BL is beyond what any normal female likes. Otome has a wider appeal to feminine men, females and overall gay audiences.
>>23149648
>MG's recent string of BL flops is due to the titles they released.
No it's just unpopular in general. Even in Japan they do not like it and only a select few types do which is a very small amount. The assumption that if you get the magical title that you will get lighting in a bottle is not really possible. Otome on the other hand will always have broader appeal to those that like that sort of thing.

It's actually one of the best BL games. I'd even recommend it to people who don't like BL since it's just genuinely good. The art looks a bit odd in screenshots but it works very well in the game itself and is actually very well done.

Is there gore in Sakura no Mori Dreamers?

Companies butcher nukige (Koikuma) and make all ages versions out of them. Why don't they do the same is a mystery to me. Don't they want to earn money?

>> No.23168316

>>23168251
Probably because the base version wouldn't be a complete or satisfactory product if they butchered it like that.

And people would still have to visit MG's website to download the patch for it.

Honestly, I think Steam allowing certain 18+ titles makes MG less likely to do separate all ages versions, since it's a lot of extra work when just putting the full version of the vn on Steam is much easier when they can do it.

And let's be honest, Steam users are dumb, they'd screenshot the patched version's gore scenes and post them all over Steam and cause MG a big headache. Same thing happened to Sekai Project and some of their 18+ content patches that ended up screenshotted on Steam.

>> No.23168328

People seem to forget that Valve is random. One of the Kara no Shoujo titles got onto Steam but not the other one.

MG has had all ages versions rejected in the past as well.

Sakura no Mori Dreamers would likely get rejected without reason too. MG either likely already tried to get it approved and couldn't, or they anticipate even an all ages version not getting through.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a fee to even try, and with Valve being inconsistent as it is, I wouldn't bother trying and wasting money.

>> No.23168527

>>23168328
Valve is quite inconsistent, but Kara no Shoujo shouldn't be used as a president for their policies since it got onto Steam in the short window between allowing R18 content and the enhanced restrictions that began being applied a few months later (along with titles like Koikuma and Evenicle).

MangaGamer is the only publisher who hasn't embraced day 1 steam releases and chink translations. Even Sol Press is full onboard now with the chinks, most likely due to the fact that Xev pissed off almost all western readers.
Anyway, I'm not sure if MangaGamer's numbers are good enough to pass on steam, especially with their shitty looking site.

I can agree with the Steam thing. I get the fact that Steam has been weird and all with their entire approval process but they could at least try some gameplay and other all ages stuff that might be more Steam friendly.

After the Steam boom died down several of MG's all ages tiltes tanked. Tokyo Babel, Pygmalion, etc. Even Fata Morgana sold poorly until its reputation spread.

>> No.23170683

Yeah some sold poorly. Fata Morgana did well. It does seem like titles that go for the 10 hour or below format workout really well on Steam even those with Gameplay elements.

It's kind of funny how that rule only seems to apply to pure VNs when Kagura Game seems to get off scot free (even if their Steam games are censored). Or maybe Kagura Game makes them enough money for Steam to turn a blind eye.

That ignores the fact that the game is already on steam, but only in chinese. That might actually be a bigger issue though, steam explicitly rejects the same game appearing on steam multiple times, even if it's by different publishers in different regions. A few have slipped past but honestly it's not a good thing to try. Unless they strike a deal with Hikari Field (like nekonyan did), this could be just as big a roadblock as the valve approval gauntlet.

>> No.23172746

So Moonstone kinda screwed everyone over by not licensing the vn to only a single publisher?

And not MG might not be able to get it on Steam because Hikari Field already put it on Steam, but Chinese-only.

Yes, those scenes were exclusively for people who ordered the physical edition in Japan. Hence the 「特典ストーリー 」part.
It would be nice if they translated them when the physical edition released, but they're basically the same thing as Evenicle Rance so I doubt they will.

Yeah, they started doing Chinese translations recently, but I don't know which ones are in Chinese. I think it's just some of the Steam titles. I'm pretty sure Remembering How We Met was one of the first ones translated into Chinese, and I think that was translated into Chinese at least a couple of years ago.

>> No.23176807

Should have done one for Evenicle.

Knowing how dumb and complicated Japanese licensing rights are, they would need to license it seperate or Waffle signed some exclusive contract with the physical prints company blocking them from the bonus content. You're right, I always thought that most of Evenicle's sales came from chinks, but I was totally wrong since I never checked it.
Funny how MangaGamer is the one who enforces and abides to steam's own rules the most, yet they are the one with the most banned titles.
Now I wonder how Sekai Project gets away with it since they are selling several adult titles like I Walk Among Zombies to chinks.

Yes it is. Porn is banned in China and Evenicle is put behind the porn filter so China can't see it. It's the reson why Kagura Games does so well on steam , they offer off-site patches for all their games and this allows Chinese buyers to get pass the porn ban. Still doesn't explain why the use to censor the off-site patches for their games or why they still use the "uiversity student" censorship even though they can change it back high school with the patch?

Saying that means there's no point in purchasing the title over piracy because they have no plans on bringing over more of that developers titles which is pretty much the only non-moral reason to purchase titles.
