'Remembering the kana/kanji' are both real good. you ought to get them. The Genki series are good for learning to speak, ect.

alljapaneseallthetime blog is good too, for some tips. His sentences idea is a sweet one- learn the kana, then learn some kanji and expound your knowledge as you come across new ones in sentences.
