With Bannerlord coming up I got excited and continued working on the mod. Maybe it's not worth an entire year's lack of updates, but I've made some decent progress.

I don't remember all the changes that have been made since it's been a year of work on & off. It was a lot of work, though! Here's some of what I managed to do:

-Story translated up to the Myouren Temple section and almost every mod event I could find was translated. This was the bulk of where the effort went.
-Moon rabbits shoot lasers.
-Hakurei priestesses throw exploding yin-yang orbs.
-Okuu shoots bombs.
-Sound effects have been changed to better fit Touhou.
-Scene fixes (still haven't had a chance to remake the really large and crappy battle maps)
-Adjusted a lot of artwork to look much less crappy.
-Tons of units that were completely dysfunctional were rebalanced now actually serve a purpose.
-Weapons and their costs were thoroughly fixed.
-Many things that I can't remember. It's been so long since the last update.

I've been spending dozens of hours lately working on polishing all the dialogue, removing bugs, and improving the Touhou flavor of the mod. Please enjoy!

Also a bit of a status update. The Chinese are trying to release a new version before Bannerlord comes out but I doubt that'll happen. If it does, you can still apply the English translation files to their mod and it should work without much problem.

With Bannerlord around the horizon I'd love to work on making a Touhou mod for it, but I imagine it might be too ambitious for me to do alone. Still, I'll give it a shot. Hopefully porting new models into it will be easier than it is in Warband.

That all depends on exactly how much the Chinese version changes. Based on what I've talked with them about, it doesn't seem like a huge amount. If it's a pretty good update though I'll try to port as much as I can, which shouldn't be too hard.

I'm more concerned about the work they haven't done after a year update, and the viability of continuing to work with them. Unfortunately I think the Origins modder blinked out of existence and my own talents for certain aspects of modding are lacking. So there's a lot of stuff I want to do with the mod that I can't.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. After spending roughly 10 hours translating Kosuzu's slice of life adventure, I realized that the story mode writing isn't very good anyway. A few missing parts makes it more entertaining, really!

That's completely doable. However at the moment I'm not sure that there are too many items (that aren't just a variety of test items) which aren't available. The mecha gear is one, but the moon rabbit snipers can actually be gotten ingame! Either finish the story mode or clear out a lunar camp and it has a chance to drop.

I could make every item available for purchase but I do like the idea of some items being rare or quest rewards. That being said, there are definitely a lot of items I could go ahead and add to shops without issue.

Speaking of ultra-rare items you can only grind via battles, This is true with the Scarlet Armor (worn by Flan's knights).

Never seen the Sniper Rifle drop, but 100% sure finishing the story gets you 1 guaranteed.

Anon ported a dead Touhou mod from original Mount & Blade to Warband and then decided to update and continue working on it. This one is Touhou Origins At the same time, another anon began translating and updating a separate Touhou mod. This mod has a bit more polish and an actual campaign and is called Touhou Tinder. Both modders came into contact with Chinese modders working on Tinder and were considering translating the mod for them (and scraping whatever assets for a supposed new Touhou mod combining the better aspects of both Origins and Tinder, but I think that idea's pretty much gone to shit ever since the Origins modder disappeared).

I've semi-recently spoken with Origins modder back in January. We haven't talked since though, he wasn't too interested in the project atm. Right now I'm helping the Chinese polish their garbage since they want to do an actual English release on the steam workshop. There's not a lot I can do since the mod project lead is really anal but I can at least make sure the translation works and the absolute most broken stuff is fixed.

My hope is that no matter how crappy this new Chinese version is, it encourages western Touhou fans to pick up the game. I heard today that it's supposed to happen around March 6th or 7th. I hope the release encourages some more people who are interested in Touhou to help out with the project/make their own, since the Chinese are a mess and my own talents are limited to certain specific areas of modding.

When the release happens I might accidentally drop the entire source code somewhere! It's not like these guys are gonna keep working on it once Bannerlord releases anyhow.

Appreciate it. I hope this project can get some more love. I personally am working on this because I think a good Touhou M&B mod similar to how there are good versions of Pokemon-style games or Metroidvanias for Touhou would be amazing to play through. But I'm disappointed that we aren't anywhere near that level of quality. So I'm just trying to do as much as I can myself!

That's a fair point. Originally the Chinese never set prices for most items properly so they just made them unsellable, but since I fixed those it should be fairly trivial to make almost everything sellable. I can patch that after the Chinese release their new version, which should be (probably) this week.

I also convinced them to make the name of the mod less stupid, although I wasn't able to do anything about the Castiron Flame part.

I got an early beta of the new Chinese version. It looks surprisingly extremely good, and blows Tinder and Origins current iterations out of the water. Turns out they have exactly one member on their team that can mod really well. There's a lot of areas seriously lacking in polish but the improvements are solid enough that I can work with them, especially since real English was applied to the source code using my translation so it's significantly easier to edit now. Should be expecting a much better version of this mod soon!

I can show you some stuff tomorrow, not at home right now. But there's a machine translation for all the storyline dialogue for chapter 8 of the storyline and beyond still. I've finished the translation on everything else. For certain things there isn't even a machine translation, like wandering minstrels had poems written to fit Gensokyo in the Chinese version. And a lot of the pretenders don't have fitting dialogue right now either.

I agree entirely. Its not fully translated but I've had a somewhat difficult time translating the storyline and a lot of dialogue in this game well because there's a strange level of thematic inconsistency. It bounces between trying to be serious about war and political intrigue, being a grimdark Gensokyo, being a slice of life anime, being a Yuri love story, and being a Chinese meme simulator/cry for political help.

I've been translating it for the sake of having an experience that isn't consistently in broken English. However I recommend you just play in sandbox mode unless you really want the rewards from story mode. It's part of the reason why I'm not too loyal to working with em, I wouldn't mind actually getting to start with decent writing that doesn't impose itself into the game world meaninglessly.

Yeah. 8 really good companions (for vanilla standards, they're not completely broken like the PC98 companions) who are all compatible with each other. You get a Lunar Sniper Rifle and you get a shitload of XP for finishing the quests. There might be more but that's the important stuff.

The mod is actually kinda hard to start in sandbox mode. Roaming bands of kedama rapists and ghosts with invisible hitboxes and guns are a real issue. Catfish are great though, they drop smoked fish. Kill as many catfish as you can.

I think the PC technically counts as female and lords technically count as male, it's just that dialogue was rewritten to make it seem like everyone is female. I'm not 100% sure but you can marry without any issue.

Not sure what stuff you're referring to unlocking. Story mode stuff? You need to start the game in story mode to unlock that stuff. Although it's all acquirable in-game in either mode.

The progression bug should be fixed anyway. If you see the storyline stop progressing then read your quest entries and it'll tell you how to progress the storyline. At one point the storyline translation will fall apart when you do the SDM questline.

Does anyone have any advice on how to marry a lord once you become a vassal? I don't see a way to just buy their love and now that im a vassal they keep saying I'm too important to do work for them 99% of the time.

As for 4k upkeep (pfft) buy dyeworks, start with Boundary of Gensokyo, that alone yields 1,2k. If you have castle or city storing troops in there halves their wages. Best to reject fiefs that aren't cities and stop at three or else tax inefficiency is going to eat your profits. Owning Scarlet Devil Mansion and Boundary of Gensokyo gives 9k each.

I too wish there were updated models, but there aren't. It REALLY sucks to rig Touhou models into M&B, I've tried to do it myself but it's pretty hard. If I figure out how to do it, adding new models will become my priority one. Both Origins Anon and I tried though and couldn't figure it out.

Here's what I know actually got updated.
-Completely new troop tree with lots of newly added weapons. Every faction actually feels pretty good to play now, and they all have their selection of top tier unique units.
-Multiplayer fixed and made pretty fun too. This is actually probably my favorite part. I'll be excited to try to get some multiplayer lobbies going.
-Map somewhat reworked (imo they didn't do as good of a job with it as I did, but it's better than before)
-Political system added to make late game kingdom management and vassaldom more entertaining. This also includes stuff like national armies that you can order around.
On my end I've translated more and more stuff so hopefully it should make for a smoother overall experience. Thanks for your support!

-New camping system
-New political system including auxiliary armies for each faction, responsible for defense tasks. Auxiliary troops are medium-equipped regular troops with a number of about 50 to 60. They will be reinforced by siege bases, and temporarily stationed at bases that have just been attacked but have not yet provided sufficient garrison bases along with some other campaign-related tasks.
-New interpersonal relationships mechanic? I haven’t tested this personally so I’m not sure how it works.
-The paper merchants have an actual function now. They can be found in the Netherworld taverns. These paper merchants sell paper you can use to summon specific units.
-Map adjusted, especially around the Underworld area.
-Fixed the library robbery quest. You now get unique books for completing the quest.
-Mounted archery AI enhanced script is now applicable to all cavalry with long-range weapons
-The wedding scene has a new set of CGs, wedding scenes were repaired or remade.
-The hometown dialogues of all companions have been completed (but I haven’t translated this part properly yet.)
-Multiplayer now works properly. Has unique scenes and companions for Invasion mode.
-Rivers flow in the proper direction.
-Fixed an issue where guild master quests would constantly reset and give you the same quest.

Took a quick look, and it looks like the rosters are much more fleshed out, with many more branching paths than there used to be. It also seems like each faction was quite rounded out with ranged and melee units. Hard to tell which units are cavalry though, since a huge portion use 'floating' or 'invisible' horses. Looking forward to actually taking them into battles.

Some much needed UI overhauls too. It looks a bit neater this time, but only prolonged use will suss out the pros and cons of this new system. For instance, it seems the Camp command now really just makes you camp, instead of opening the camp options - which are now available elsewhere.

The map was slightly changed - I like how farmlands are now drawn onto the map. They likely do nothing, but I do like addition.

I just started out, so I've yet to see the combat and progression, but so far, looking good.

For the most part the old mod was translated with csv files under languages/en. Specifically the dialogue.csv and game_menus.csv files. The Chinese decided to implement most of the translation directly into the source code instead of using those csv files, which is both good and bad. It's mostly good, but I think they probably missed a bunch of the dialogue changes.

Solution is fairly simple, and save game compatible! Take the two .csv files I mentioned above from the old version of the mod, and just copy paste them into the mod folder in the same location. It'll overwrite any poor translations.

Like other anons said, start by saving up enough for a caravan. Good way to do this is tournaments, guild master quests, or being a mercenary. Open a bank account too when you set up your caravan and have them use funds from your bank account for the caravan.

Any funds in the bank grow with interest, so the caravan will keep earning money and putting it in, which grows without you needing to do anything.

Then when the money piles up, start buying dyeworks. Boundary of Gensokyo has a really good starting one that gives you 1k a week.

At that point you should be rolling in the money so just go buy a ton of dyeworks wherever they're most profitable. At this point you're rich and the only thing holding you back from conquering everything are faction leaders busted stats and guard units.

It'll continue being updated, just focusing on bugfixes right now. I wouldn't expect updates to happen faster than the pace they've already been happening at though, especially if it's translation related I already typically put several hours a day into it. Right now my priorities are as follows
1. Finish fixing the translation (because the Chinese left several parts of it out when they implemented it straight into the source code dialogue)
2. Fixing the most broken scenes so that everything becomes playable (this latest version actually made a decent amount of progress in that)
3. Start updating the models used ingame

Tinder had a Documentation folder within the module's folder that showed racial bonuses. I assume it stayed the same. Of the playable ones, Fairy has slightly lower HP than human but gets HP Regen. White Wolf Tengu has 150% Max HP of Human and 105% Attack and Movement Speed. Youkai gets 110% Max HP and Damage, as well as Tengu's Speed buffs.

However, none of these apply when you're in a situation where special powers are banned. No new playable race additions. There's really no reason to play Human. The bonuses are small enough that you can't really call Human a challenge run either.

I found a graphical bug. In Hakugyokurou, looking at one of the walls of the tavern causes the screen to lock up until you look away.

Also, any chance you'll be importing the various height skeletons and MMD models from the version of Tinder you uploaded here to the public Steam version? The Kappa being tall skeletons is discomforting.

One last thing, I wouldn't recommend making most companions into nobles since they tend to lose all their clothes (and hair).

Hotfix is out! It fixes a lot of stuff including the broken invasion mode companions in multiplayer and companions losing their equipment when they become lords (not sure how savegame compatible that is). It used to be that you would just hire mechs and siege every castle in the game for free. At least now you have to hire Shinki if you want to blow up the entire enemy army (and yours at the same time). It was fun but it was too easy to hire them! Oh god I wish. I hate the current story mode but frankly I don't think the mod even NEEDS one in the first place. I'm only continuing to translate it for the sake of having a consistent translation across the board. I think making one in the first place was a waste of time and the mod team should've just continued making better scenes and adding more Touhou flare to the game.

Just a suggestion, but can you set the speed of the cattle herd to be equal to the player's speed? Or at least max speed so it can always follow so matter how fast I'm travelling. It's annoying to be constantly stopping just so I can let the herd catch up with me.
