you will be able to use the kanji as clues to figure out what the words mean which means less time using a dictionary. when you do learn a new word, it will stick faster because you already know the kanji, so less time re-looking up the same word. you also don't have to deal with radical lookup. its not rocket science, rtk is superior in every way

i think the biggest problem i have with drawing right now isn't symbol drawing but just desperation at my lack of ability
for example i can sketch very simple objects and look at it and feel like i did an ok job, but if i look at anything even slightly complex i just can't figure out how to draw this shit and kind of fall back to symbol drawing in due to my inability to copy what my eye is seeing on the paper

It's not about being blind to progress, it's realizing that your progress will never lead to an end goal. you should never feel comfortable with what how you draw, because then it becomes routine and you stagnate. it's the realization that you always have something to improve upon, a thing many people seem unwilling to accept

I agree with the first part, you should make art because you want to and you like it. but the last part is demonstrably false. you would only say that when you have no idea how drawing works in any shape or form. the only way to improve art is to be a beginner all the time, or else you get stuck like I already explained. but most people are way too stuck on the idea to reach the "being good" goal which does not exist. fact is, when you look at your art and think it does not have many areas where you can improve massively, you are stuck already. this is not about making yourself miserable because you never get good, it's about realizing that being good is a lie, and that's not something bad.

Well the good news for you guys is that it's already incorporated. Mostly Quality of Life changes, but also made the default settings more sane. Made access to card templates super obvious, and making cards has a what you see is what you get editor that still allows scripting like javascript. Editing cards will no longer for a full reupload before studying, etc etc.

Right now my only goal is to make this a straight upgrade from Anki by baking in the best addons and getting rid of the chaff. There's a few things I'm having a hard time (such as coming up with a better system other than "notes", "decks", and "collections").

If I had more time, I'd post a full log of what's done and what needs to be done, but for now, this is all I can post.

The database scheme isn't very well formed. It might work ok for simple things like pure vocab, but people use Anki for things like grammar and medicine. Abstracting a few of the background schemes into seperate systems may allow the best of both worlds by using a [super secret] algorithm that distinguishes between studying vocab and studying complex things like grammar.

Truthfully, I'm not the greatest algorithm crafter so it's taking the lionshare of my time. If I completely butcher it, I'll fall back to anki's classic SM2 algorith with it's basic note/collection scheme.

SM2 (super memo) is the algorithm that anki uses for it's space repetition. It's open source, but really old. The latest algorithm is SM9, and the creator of it has been talking a lot of trash about SM2.

Doubt it. SM-2 is an open source algorithms, but anything newer is closed source. The creator would have to make something themselves, but I seriously doubt they have the knowledge to be able to.
