Hmm. I'd be hesitant to say Dmitry's style is 'anime', although that'd be nitpicking since I would merely argue that it is closer to that of fightan' games. I also find him odd, in that sometimes I can tell a piece of his was drawn by a Westerner, and sometimes I have trouble.

if Japanese style art is strictly the province and property of Japan and not intended for audience or participation outside Japan and everyone outside of Japan was respectful of that boundary (as some seem to desire) then...

1. why is most of the work of making an anime farmed out to Korea, and

2. no one outside of Japan would know or care about anime and this place probably wouldn't have reason to exist.

I feel anyone who loves the style and wants to participate should be able to do so, for the same reason that people who aren't ready to play as Wimbledon can still have fun playing tennis.

I don't know man, I myself highly prefer Licheus (Is that his name?) just because you can tell he actually has some foundation in the basics, and this he can actually incorporate his own fair into any of the fanart.

You can really tell Woofycakes doesn't have a very strong foundation, and seems to have just copied his favorite animu artist's girls to achieve the same effect.

Well yeah, Licheus is obviously older and has more years of art experience in each pen stroke. He is the superior artist here.

I personally still like Woofycakes more though. I guess it just makes me really happy when gaijin fanartists show love for series that don't get much fanart in the first place. I got nothing against the Touhou/Naruto/Type-Moon/Kingdom Hearts stuff that gaijin love to draw though, especially when it's well done.

I wonder how Woof's art will be when he reaches Licheus' age.

I won't disagree that Licheus (if he has another name, I don't know it) is a stronger artist overall. His fanart has a more 'traditional' style, so yes, he brings something to his pieces that Woofy doesn't.

>You can really tell Woofycakes doesn't have a very strong foundation, and seems to have just copied his favorite animu artist's girls to achieve the same effect.
Even if he did so, then in the process Woofy must have gained some knowledge at least. His use of color is not uninteresting, and his gesture/anatomy generally feel right (if exaggerated). Yes, his style is not particularly novel and distinct, but that's not necessarily something one should criticize. I'm just saying that he's pretty good for 18, and he's certainly not void of artistic talent.

>> No.2295951

It's only natural for artists to absorb any styles they find aesthetically pleasing into their work, that's how art works. The "anime style" itself is the result of the jappos copying the Disney style, and then (arguably) improving it.

However, the sort of westerners who draw their comics from right-to-left, add sound effects in kanji etc. just fucking need to have their fingers broken.

Well, the thing is, for all we know, he just might be spinning his wheels and be caught in a wheel of mediocrity for the rest of his life. If there's anything I learned about the animu, it's that people who draw it CAN'T improve simply because they never learned the basics to improve on.
