Bonus points from leveling scale with buffed learn stat in oomsest, so you won't be able to use custom spells to super boost learning and gain tons of bp. But, this mostly just slows you down. You can still do it.

I don't think there's anything you *can't* do exactly, it's more about convenience and speed. Even the super custom buffs can be made up for with the right feats, levels, ora lot of smithing.

Hey everyone, hadn't played Elona+ since like 2012 or 2013 and just got back to it the other week with currentday Elona+CustomG. Messed around with a new, throwaway Yerles Warrior to get back into the controls and flow of the game.

Ready to create a more serious character to play the game with. I get that E+CG has faster stat gains- does it really matter to drop out of the test Yerles Warrior now for something like a Elea Warmage? For games like this, I like doing melee with a dash of magic to have fun. Guessing the first thing to do would be to run to the farming town to buy the Gardening skill. Finally got the hang of doing those.

Oh and I read some guide explaining how to get a cheap head-start by bringing the nuke back to your starting cave to get the two NPC's gear early on. Is that still recommended or was it patched to punish your or something?

Those weapons don't provide nearly as much of an advantage as they used to. Plus adds a lot faster leveling nowadays, and you can use a blacksmith to enhance your gear to be stronger.

However, if you still want an easy equipment boost, it's better to collect all the static medal locations in town (the wiki has a list of where they are). Then you can go do garok's shop and buy either diablo, shield tonfa, or sage's helm. The shield tonfa can be put in the shoot slot to benefit any melee weapon, or the melee slot to benefit any ranged weapon. It also has some nice defense enchants. It's probably the best choice.

If you're playing Plus the prices cap at 15pp per skill. Keep an eye out for a disguise set so you can get the skills from the other two guilds you didn't join (Use the disguise <after> you enter).

If you're gonna bother with pets you might as well get Gene Engineering as soon as you can and do the mad scientist quest for the machine.

If you have the patience for it, you can trade the <Mad Scientist> magic rods to use, and he'll zap them to his hearts content. Though he has a tendency to forget he's carrying them, so you'll have to take them off him and hand them back now and then so he actually remembers he has a rod to zap.

Claws/tonfas are mostly the same thing, just pick the best stats/enchants.

You can get more damage with bare handed, but only if you have enough extra attack enchant to sustain the multi-attack rate. Bare handed gets up to 8 attacks, but is slightly less damage per. I'd say, aim for 6+ hits a turn on average before switching to barehanded, for best results.

You don't need anything other than MA and tactics. Maybe eye of mind for crit/hit chance.

In XdY, X is the number of dice and Y is the number of faces the die has. So for 2d6 you would roll two six sided dice and add the results together to determine your dice damage.
There's two different + values on weapons. If it's next to the name i.e. mica longsword +1, you add +2 to the accuracy and damage per +1. This goes up to +10 or +15 depending on which version of Elona you're playing.
If it's like 2d6+2, you add the +2 to the results of your dice roll.
All this is multiplied by a value on your character sheet that's determined by your weapon skill, relevant character skill (tactics, etc), and relevant statistic. So you'll end up with something like (2d6+2)x3 to get your actual damage output before armor kicks in.
Laser pistols pierce armor but have mediocre base damage compared to other firearms. Which is pretty fuckin' good because you can always increase your damage output but can't increase your armor piercing output without just using something else or stacking "it is capable of throwing an absolute piercing attack." However as the game goes on that piercing modifier gets really easy to come by and laser pistols start to fall off in favor of the others as a generic weapon type.
Chainsaws are heavy axe weapons. Heavy means it weighs more than 4s and gains bonuses from the twohand skill.

You need to get their health REALLY low. The knock-out feat could be useful for this. I never took it but it should reduce enemies to a sliver of health. Throw a ball and done. You can get more monster balls consistently once you reach South Tyris otherwise you just need to get lucky with traders. Try investing in them.

You need to leave them with just a tiny sliver of health (wiki says 5% or less). Send your pets back to town or put them in Defense mode with a command flag or the Directive special action (E+) to avoid killing your target accidentally. Try using poison if you tend to oneshot that type of enemy, or take the Knockout feat (E+, will always leave the target with 1 HP) if you plan on using balls often.

Little balls are only good for capturing Little Sisters (https://elona.fandom.com/wiki/Little_sister)), which don't need to be weakened prior to capture. Monster balls can capture regular monsters as long as the ball's level is equal to or greater than that of the monster. You can find them on dungeon floors or occasionally buy them from general vendors (higher shop levels = higher level balls). In E+, you can craft them with a pot for fusion after you hit a certain level of Carpentry.

Yeah, there were quite a lot of good changes in these patches. 1.93 was quite game changer for a lot of builds. A lot of rewards from arena are crazy good. Easy source of spell points, pots of descent, astral pens, hearts, scrolls of growth and other things. 1.92 was good buff to throwing if you play it. 1.94 was quite nice for farming. 1.95 had huge buffs for shop, giving point as rewards for selling that can be exchanged for nice rewards. Also some ground bait got nice effects. All patches also added some new items, npcs/mobs and some more story content plus other minor things.

What should I do when entering early-mid game? At the point now in E+CG where the seven league boots allow me to rack up money from traveling quests, and have a farm/museum/storage/basic_house established. All my stats show "Hopeless" and most skills are in the 30-40%'s. Was that because of the deaths from learning how to do stuff?

However, is there a way to increase the size to, say, the 48x96 sprites that big enemies use? To not fuck up everything i respected each of the 16 square sprites sizes (and it was a PAIN and very time consuming to have all 16 perfectly aligned).
There's the lizardman in the pastebin archive, which i tried to customize with wings and pretend it's a dragon, but then i opted to resize a charizard sprite. The result in game is... not excellent.
As in, the sprite is there and it isn't fucked up or anything, it's just that the resolution of the sprite is fucking garbage (since i had to resize it and all) and it's also pretty small compared to even the vanilla model.

Do you know of a good dragon sprite i can use? Either that looks as big as possible in-game or with a good resolution. Googling is a desperate search, and i don't know how to search for specific PCCs in ElonaUploader.

I would love to LARP in Elona. But haven't been active in LARPing recently; and Elona's setting is somewhat complex, weird, and not very end-goal oriented. Plus most of the RP fun comes from silly things like breeding little girls and tanks and shit or quickly growing mutants to crazy strength, which are pretty hard things to replicate in Live Action.

Yes, and kinda? Ammo gives it's bonuses to compatible ranged weapons in the shoot slot (only shoot slot.) This stacks with the bonus on claws/tonfas and the ranged weapon proper.

So, a gun +2, 2 claws + 3, and a bullet + 5 = +13 total, for 13 extra damage and accuracy.

I downloaded the ready Elona+ Custom 1.90.4 /w mods from the pastebin.
I'm building a Claymore pretty much as you would expect since I figured it'd encourage me to learn the game better instead of relying solely on crashing into anything I run across and hoping my numbers are bigger than theirs (as I've done on my previous dips into this game). Specifically, getting light equipment that has high DV and preferably speed (and hopefully some dex/per/str), with some spells to deal with situations I don't feel confident in my ability to slash through.
I only fairly recently managed to get enough Faith (and Charisma, thanks to really bad mutation/corruption luck giving me a -11 to that) to grab a Black Angel, but beyond it I've still got the initial Little Girl and Juere Infantry (mostly because I've gotten attached and don't want to just sell them off) although all of them are still in the lvl 9-11 range.

I'm not sure if it's the dungeons I'm running or if I'm doing something wrong, but most places seem to give really poor rewards compared to just doing jobs from the boards. I mean, I could do a round of escort missions and easily get ten thousand gold and a handful of pp for basically no risk, maybe doing whatever hunting quests I dare to on the way for combat experience and extra pp, or spend a while diving through a simple dungeon and still risk death for a few thousand gold and a single pp.

Focus on acquiring all skills and cementing your play style. Get the gene machine and use it to give your pets the pickpocket skill (thief slaves from derphy work nicely for that). With every kill they make they steal a bit of money, which they use to keep their potential up. Absolutely necessary for any pet. Keep your light armor skill up, since you can't depend on dodging all the time (even with greater evasion). You have to set your own goals, like clearing set dungeons and obviously clearing quests. One of our resident madlads decided and managed to reach floor 6666 of the void in loss-mode. The rewards from random quests are basically just ressources you use to further level yourself.

You can still just use or throw potions on yourself to not have to drink. It's there to just be another clock more or less. And if you want to go up to distended for double stamina regen.
It's a little annoying but it's easy enough to manage with fruit juice, and distended is nice for cooking or fishing or whatever since you can magaqua to keep it indefinitely. And I guess there's pissing mechanics or something. I haven't seen it once in like 500 hours.

Generic troubleshooting:

First off, in game, check the Esc->Game Setting->Screen & Sound: Direct Sound should work, MCI might if it doesn't, both for Sound and Music.
Then system stuff:
Make sure you're using compatibility mode set to Win7 if you're running a Windows version newer than that.
Make sure the folder you're running it in has appropriate read/write permissions, and is owned by the user you're running as.
Right click the executable and see if there's an Unblock button for being "from another computer". If it's not there that's good.
Check your audio "Playback devices": see how many are enabled, disable the extras you're not using; go to the communications tab and set that to "Do nothing" when Windows detects communication activity; check the format of the device you want to use, try 2ch 16bit 44.1kHz or 2ch 16bit 48kHz.
Also make sure you're not running something that requires Exclusive control over the playback device. I know foobar2000, MPC-HC, and many other things can be CONFIGURED to do that, but few things should use that by default.

In Omake Overhaul is there any reliable way to go insane and stay insane? Being a wizard who worships the added eldrich water goddess in it to get extra magic power bring being crazy sounds like it'd be fun, but it just seems nearly impossible to go crazy or keep 'sanity' from being zero. Best I can come up with is using 'devour' to eat enemies as often as possible, but natural insanity decrease seems to happen too fast.

That also gets you all the other benefits of Custom (Tweaks, Glorious Custom AI, scene translations), reverts a bunch of questionable changes and makes at least one optional (Ranch), adds stuff like an option to reset void progress entirely, and at bare minimum machine translates all untranslated dialogue rather than leaving placeholders.

If you, for some odd reason, must be on a version of plus past 1.90, then you'd have to decompile it, locate thirst, and modify that.
It is pretty sloppy HSP, but not completely unworkable. Be prepared for some frustrating tedium regardless.

+45 is only 45 extra damage, but I think it's boosted to 70ish at the cap. You can get +100 from the violence feat alone, and my endgame snail gets +600 to +900 depending on buffs.

Absorb MP is great for forcing the target to overcast in long drawn out battles where you may or may not be able to hit enough to burst through any healing (CONVERGE BREATH). Long drawn out battle in general suck though, of course.
Otherwise it's just a minimally faster recovery of your own MP during attacks.

1.99 will likely lead into 1.100, not 1.991 or anything; as that's simply the versioning scheme plus uses.
This is easy to understand. It allows pushing subversions farther and farther even if all you have are subversion changes and nothing worth bumping the major version number over.

Custom-G's dev may have caught up with real life, sure, but Custom's dev is the one that plain quit.
There was one guy claiming he might take up the mantle for Custom a while back; the dude who ported Custom to Vanilla and other mods. But I haven't seen anything about plus/Custom from that since.

There was a new server for a while, but it was like barely 20% functional; no moongates or anything, and it was vulnerable to exploits. It died ages ago.
The client source code's public; theoretically anyone could slap together server software, but somehow there's nothing, despite the demand.

They don't have much in common. GS is a JRPG and Elona is a roguelike, more or less. The most noteworthy differences are that most of Elona's environments outside towns and the overworld are randomly generated, and combat, while turn-based, takes place without a separate battle screen. Story overall is much less important. Also, the only party member you have full control over is your own character.

I'd say it is. At least for plus (haven't played enough of Vanilla or the Omake Variants to give opinions).
I normally hate grinding, and get bored with sandboxes.
But somehow this game hooked me and felt enjoyable to faff about while grinding.
And plus (if you use custom G) even has a story that is just decent enough it gave me new goals to reach for.
Like the other anon said, it isn't for everyone though.

If you're ok with grinding and like progression then yes. Its engaging and customisable enough that you could get hundreds of hours out of each character. And thats if you only want to develop your own character, you can do the exact same thing with 10+ characters if you want, a snail can kill gods in this game with moderate grinding.

It was easier to grind mana and life when you could exploit lvl 10k summons for tickets. Still very impressive, but the hard part was leveling summon spirit.
