Would a comiket event work well in the west?

no.

Just look at sakuracon.

Not enough people seriously into the doujinshi scene I'd expect.

>> No.2278238

Is there any decent Western doujin?

GARUGAMESH.

Also, it'd be western cartoon. and that'd be bad.

That's what comic conventions are; there are plenty. It's just for Western art in general, just like Japanese comikets are for Japanese productions.

Bastille knows. He's my kawaii friend, btw!

The only talented artists I've seen produce doujinshi are women, and therefore they produce BL stuffs that I do not read.

>> No.2278372

The talent is there. I got a few Western doujinshi that are pretty great.

A Comiket type event wouldn't happen in the west due to copyright issues though. In Japan things are a bit more relaxed: they don't see it as copyright infringement but instead as free advertising for the original series.

>> No.2278602

Well now that I think about it, I have one Mac Hall book. Is that like western doujinshi?

Oh god, I want Ian to draw in colors again. ;_;

The west just uses the Internet for indie stuff rather than have conventions.

The western world has lost many of the good qualities the eastern world retained. We are not at all productive, we never work hard, we are never able to sacrifice something for teamwork. All we do is consume, consume, consume, and any social event in the west would reflect on this.

It is all quite sad.

I hate to agree with your weeaboo outlook, but the aki project call for western contributors is depressing. There is a marked lack of talent, disposition and resources, and that's not mentioning that the fanbase is utterly obnoxious beyond any tolerable degree.
And that's not counting the fact that by definition we're dispersed, thrown all around the globe and with a lack of a proper massive transit system that could render traversing the continent easier and affordable. USA is huge.
Not only that, but we're deeply categorized, everyone focusing on the small communities that cater to ones needs instead of the sense of groupthink that takes over the sad japanese otaku. We hate pooshlmer, they hate us back, nobody can agree on anything, so any large gathering caters to the lowest common denominator, which is of course the low level naruto headband toting weeaboo.

So no, there will never be a western Comiket, or any decent convention for that matter. ComiCon is good enough, but has fallen into our own brand of commercialism and advertising. Where's the love?

And you're suggesting that the vocal majority of Eastern Touhou fans are not? It's the same for both sides. You have a group of extremely obnoxious people that manages to annoy everyone else.

How so?

Keep in mind that the Aki Sisters aren't exactly popular in the western Touhou fanbase. You might be expecting too much.

It wouldn't work well in the U.S.A. This place is HUGE. Travel anywhere is a pain.

I agree, while 3 panel soul is nice, I still love the times he has the occasional colored comics.
