One thing about Lamento that is a bit different from other N+C games: the sex scenes feel like they aren't the point of the game. The story is worth playing for on it's own in most routes. Helps that they can use the excuse of "going into heat" as a plausible reason for sexy time in the middle of the story.

Looking back, it seems like all the effort that didn't get put into the happy sex went into making the bad endings as soul-crushing as possible.

'going into heat' in R18 games for women seems to occupy the place mana transfers do in eroge for men in terms of trying to rationalise sex scenes with fantasy mechanics. It's really just one thing after the other like, the NTR aspect with Rai watching the whole time, the fact that Konoe had his ear literally half bitten off, weird sex stuff like tail rape and urethra penetration, Froud's weird powers that mean Konoe can't help but enjoy it. A parade of suffering.

Well, I liked Rai, and I was not expecting something on that level. Usually there are fountains of blood, guts spilling out, and hate-filled struggles. The bad ends with sex in Lamento are certainly full of shock value but I can't place why Froud's hurt more than others. Especially since Rai was the least compelling choice of characters.

Maybe I'll play through it again. It's been a few years and doesn't seem like anything good is coming out soon.

Decide to check some steam reviews for Hashihime and

So stmy's main story is ogre. I dunno. In crime/mystery stories you gather clues, make deductions from said clues then use those deductions to pinpoint the culprit. Not "Here is the culprit. Here are all the reasons why she is the culprit that we uncovered offscreen. Here are all the bad things she did. Also she was running an international drug ring this whole time." I'm reading this wondering when the FUCK did they find any of this out. This was supposed to be the climax to the big unsolved case but all the finer points were swept under the rug. In the end I still don't know the details of Ded-kun's suicide, what Murderer-kun was doing for 15 fucking years, why he still needs to run despite not actually being a murderer. Not much sense of completion from this arc.

That said Revel RIP is still best bros, and Yui steals every scene he is in. I like the main story's timeline so it can go straight to season 5 or whatever if it wants.

Should I play Hashihime? I've only played N+C BL games in the past. I liked them for the most part but I think lot of the bad endings are awful. I also think Sweet Pool was a bit dumb. I love the Bardo route in Lamento a lot, though.

I may add that the while the third route and fifth route are kinda bad, they are are also incredibly short. The first route you'll go through it's 50% of the novel and has like 80% of the story in term of what it reveals. The story structure is incredibly bizarre, it gives you the best stuff and most relevant stuff first, which sorta works for and against itself.

I had that experience when I played through Steam Prison especially during Adage, and Yune's route. I thought it would be some kind of steampunk suspense romance adventure stuff, but nah, the story gets crazier as more things are revealed during each route. Because of the story's serious tone, the absurdity of the plot elements made me question why it was set up like that. Good game for a laugh if one's expectations is low.

It's still focusing on what the girl is doing for the guy, and that's every boring h-scene ever. In eroge it makes sense, because it's a fantasy for straight men. But in otome and women's media in general, it seems like there is some implicit shame in the MC getting any sort of pleasure directly. They have to get all their pleasure from satisfying the man and that's horribly boring in what is supposed to be wish fulfillment. I don't think I've ever read an otome h-scene that implies the clit exists and even ero cds don't mention it often.

Learning it is definitely worth it if you're into otome, since there's plenty of untranslated otome worth playing (that are also highly unlikely to ever get fan patches because they're console only games). But if you only care for BL then I'm not sure it is, there aren't that many BL games and while there are a couple quite good ones that are untranslated, it's probably not worth learning it just to play Shingakkou or whatever.

Just a random impression passing by, as I've finished Nie no Machi some time ago.

Why the fuck was this game so full of yandere stalkers?
It was an okay read, just a good game, which won't be remembered by me in details after a longer time. It wasn't a kamige nor a kusoge, just an alright BL game. I like the art, but sometimes faces could get wonky.

As for the plot
I went with Naruomi first since he seemed like a good boy, and I couldn't be more wrong. The closer to the end, the wilder the ride went.
Hisora conveniently remembering the Limbo world was well, convenient. Though I liked how it made the endings bittersweet. Asuku got the best option here.
In my opinion the plot didn't leave that many holes, with the main boys getting most of their issues resolved. The mysterious boy being Hisora's brother came slightly from nowhere and felt like an asspull at first, but considering the later revelations it was okay and cemented the plots.
For individual routes, fuck Akari, fuck Totonoe, fuck all of the yandere stalkers in this game. I was actually relieved that Asuku didn't have his own psycho stalker, just a group of rapist delinquents.
Naruomi was a nice guy, until you learn his backstory and realize he himself is a creepy stalker. But he's being cute with it, so he's somehow forgiven in the game. I found most of his sex scenes pleasant (if you forget about the guts), plus he's a libido monster and can fuck all night.
Mio is annoying with his manner of speech and was kinda a case of protag realizing his feelings while being raped. Sumata scene was delicious though.
Coco has a legitimately sad backstory and plotwise, I find his route to be the most solid, with some real issues in the real life. His actions gain a second meaning after you learn more of his past.
Asuku got the short end of the stick, and for me his route lacked in the romance a little. His ending was sweeter than the others, but I have my doubts about it.


There were some moments which creeped me out briefly. Guro wasn't that extreme, but definitely creative at times. Some of the sex scenes were out of place and unnecessary First scene with Asuku

I'm not 100% sold on ranking the boys, but I think it'd like this:

Naruomi = Asuku > Coco = Mio

I didn't find one boy being the best or another being the worst - in Hashihime it was easy Kawase vs Hanazawa. I can assure you that Akari is utter shit.

The order in which I read the routes was Naruomi, Mio, Coco, Asuku. I think it'd be the best to go:
Coco, Mio, Asuku, Naruomi
Definitely leave Naruomi for last, as his route has the most explanations for the ending, and also branches into the more "secret" ones, like with Onii-chan

I play a mobage that is made by a Taiwanese company but has JP voices, with CH/KR/JP/EN text. If they go for an anime style most companies know that people will expect JP voices but may get turned off by CH/KR voices. May as well do JP voices for max appeal (hello, seiyuufags) and spend more money elsewhere.

Weird how things work out. He sperged out a little too hard for me.

Overall I liked it. I'm more curious than anything because I'm in a weird half spoiled state where I know some vague things but not enough to actually understand or reasonably guess the nature of the plot.
