>What this is:
Shanghai.EXE was a Touhou-themed Megaman Battle Network clone.
Then the original developer got a C&D from Capcom and shut everything down, just before it was completed.
Luckily, someone leaked a donor-wall demo build, and the whole thing was made in C#, which meant it could be decompiled.
This is a version based on the leaked demo, translated, maintained, and now with the main game completed.
The end goal is to finish the rest of the game, which off the top of my head the postgame areas/bosses, sidequests, and netplay.

Let's see how long the new location lasts, I suppose it's better to find out if it's reliable sooner rather than later.
Put in some bug fixes early since I had to make a new build, just fixing the Kikuri version stats which I swapped around and the DruidManX sorting.
Other than that, since I'm planning on adding the postgame and fixing existing content, anyone have a list of inaccessible or CrimsonNoise-only chips/addons to use as rewards?
I'm also aware of the duplicate CRecov and Minus AddOns, and those will need to be replaced as well.

I liked the idea on the previous thread of Youmu trimming the souls of their memories and self-consciousness before sending them to archieve Revival. I feel it could tie very well with some visually metaphoric, thematic and characterization ideas that would fit naturally with Hakugyokurou, like these souls and their fragments being tied to the petals of cherry blossoms and a personality that though overtly serious in the surface, has tinges of being more melancholic and that of a facade, moreover if you consider she should have the mentality of a normal teenager with her actual half-ghost years, but she tries to act responsible instead because of that duty and how carefree Yuyuko seems in comparison. I feel this personality is the way many arrange songs interpret her already as well.

Eh, it's always been on thin ice with the initial C&D, being double illegal, and with the literal copy+pasting I did for the credits cameo, I never had any intention of making it "legit".
Threw it in there as a whim, edited it a bit once to not unnecessarily be a dick to Koki or the translators, never mentioned it once or made it anything you'd ever see unless you were curious.

Still, all said this is a really inconvenient time for this, I'd already committed to easing back on updates while I worked on the postgame and really only made this thread to put up the new link so people don't think it's dead.

That's actually a real interesting idea for someone to try, I'm not too bothered by it and can keep working on the postgame but if someone wants to make sure 99% of the game is "safe" then they can rehost a version wih even just censor-barred/blackscreened versions of all the BN/Zero sprites and text.
If that passes, which might be possible since the DMCA complaint mentioned Zero which is purely references rather than any sort of gameplay, main development could be continued on that fork with a "totally-not-affiliated" uncensoring patch hosted somewhere else.
Github even gave the option to appeal the DMCA, which I didn't do since there are legitimate ripped sprites, but a censored version might be able to win.

It might be worth censoring the BN/Zero references or making alternatives to them. I know that the credits sequence directly rips content from bn6, and the PAs also rip sprites from bn6. The zero chips could be renamed and re-sprited, if you're willing to go that far.

This is an idea for someone else to try if they want the source publicly available, I'd contribute and appreciate having a "backup" but ultimately wouldn't be doing this myself.
I'd rather be working on the postgame than trying to keep on top of infringing/noninfringing content, dmca appeals, whatever sort of distribution/patching scheme that would be needed.
Wouldn't be too hard though, could just copy/paste a rectangle of "COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL" on black and go to town on the graphics files, maybe some sounds and text too, all of which can be overwritten with uncensored versions just by drag and drop.

The former, I only had one bubbleblast on my folder as a filler. He appeared, I hit him, he disappeared. I hit him right as he appeared or just let an AoE attack after a couple seconds, he would get hid and disappear again... rinse and repeat.

Another option would be to go fully parody. Alter the art for the Zero chips such that still resembles Zero, but isn't. Change the color to green or something. Add, remove, or change a few details so he looks like a chinese knockoff. Rename the Z-Saber and Z-Knuckle chips to R-Sword and R-Fist, since all three Zero chips share the R code.
The PAs could be could be altered in similar fashions, as can the posters in the Game Center.

Just max out a BlitzBuster and don't fuck up your dodges, you don't even need a Fighter style for it to work. Otherwise you can set up your folder for more damage and sacrifice some flow, make sure to tap her with your buster to knock out her barrier before vomiting whatever you can at her, but just using BlitzBuster is way easier, you just sniff that glue and she's gone.

Obviously I've been taking precautions, unless we're in a dystopian corpostate for real where Capcom is the secret puppetteer of the entire networking pipeline they'll have to request (then pay someone to dig through) records from a bunch of companies. At the point they'd find me they'd be going through records that aren't supposed to exist or have access to literal corporate secrets, which I don't think some megaman fangame is worth, C&D or not.
Despite what some threads turn into, this isnt anything that would get the FBI digging through network traffic.

What I've been doing anyways is only releasing/making threads on major milestones or as followups for fixing bugs, otherwise it'd be 2-3 years before you heard anything.
I was planning on going dark for at least a few months for the first half of the postgame, until github got dmcad literally an hour or two before the last thread got archived.
Could have let it be and popped up out of nowhere in a year for a double-cancellation anniversary, but what's done is done.

Utsuho fires a flare forward 3 spaces, then uses her cannon attack. Honestly, the only Touhou theme I've heard in this game is a sample of Maiden's Capriccio in the final Kikuri fight. I really liked that actually. Speaking of Kikuri, you COULD do the BlitzBuster strategy, or use WingStyle instead. For the majority of the game, WingStyle is OP as fuck. I have LeafWing myself and I have to say I use it for almost every battle. I've upgraded my attack power to 5 now so my leaf tornado charge shot does 160 damage now.

Two more ideas for PAs.
AtomicWave: Utsuho V2 + BurnStage + MFlarGun U. Utsuho appears and summons 3 flares, one for every row, and sends them 3 spaces forward. They have the same effect as MFlarGun where they deal half damage if they hit an enemy, or explode in a 3x3 pattern if they dont hit anything, but also inflict Melt if the flare directly hits an enemy.
BorderShield: Ran V2 + Resist + Barrier R. Ran appears and summons 3 of her shields on each row in front of you. If hit, they block one attack each, and send three of ran's rayball attacks down the row when hit.

BlazingWave: Pyroman V2 + BioSpray2 + Burnroad: Pyroman appears and summon a burner support cannon (the things he summons in his fight) above and below him. he then uses his fire wave attack 3 times, while his supports use a 3 panel flamethrower. This one is a pain to make a PA for just cuz there's so few fitting stage 2 chips in P code.
ReaperScythe: Scissorman V2 + Webtrap + DethWpr2 S: Scissorman's finishing move. You throw out a cobweb ball. if it connects, Scissorman appears and uses his finishing move for very high damage on whatever you hit.

Still working on ideas for Druidman, Chen, and Beetleman. Haven't fought two of them, and barely remember the beetleman fight.

DruidMagic: Druidman V2 + Whitecard + Normstage: Functions similarly to his X chip, where inputting a direction changes his attack. Depending on the input, he will change the current field (pressing up changes top and bottom rows to elec field, pressing right changes entire field to grass, etc etc). A nice idea, but the major issue isn't so much what the PA will do. It's moreso what comprises the PA. While there's a number of options for what to pick, there's far fewer "appropriate" ones. I'm trying to come up with PAs that follow the V2 chip rule that most of the other PAs follow, while also trying not to overuse certain chips. For example, ChargeCannon2 comes in B code, so it could potentially be fitting if the PA looks like it's charging. However, two other normal PAs already use that chip. So basically, i'm wrackig my brain for the most fitting ideas before I move to breaking the mold.
My only current idea to use Beetleman + Panelshot2 + Sandstage. Maybe it could involve Beetleman using his rush attack 3 times like you suggested, then ending with beetleman falling right in the center of the enemy field, changing the 3x3 area to sand. Or cracking the area. I dunno.

Juragon3 should be a rare encounter in Hospital comp 2. It comes in a battle with two of them. Maybe I'm wrong and it's the V2 or EX form.
MedusaEye is from 10-S ranking EvilEyeEX, which if I remember is a rare encounter in the final ROM comp. Or you could increase difficulty by 3 levels and go to the Detective Statue in Engelles.

Dark Chips: 266~270 one. Are they still in the game? Plus, iIrc Koki did show WIP dark chip 'Laevateinn' via his Twitter back then he was working on this game, so I can only guess those 5s, including that Laevateinn, were yet to be implemented in game by now.

Navi Chips: No.203~205, 242~244, 248~250, 251 are still missing even till I blast through all the storyline.
From what I read from database No.242~244 is supposedly Youmu, which isn't available unless you use Demo Bonus room, and I can assume No.248~250 being Yuyuko, while I kinda have a feeling that No.251 being either Mima or Flandre.
Absolutely no idea about No.203~205 though cause they're in familiar navi line and I haven't seen one who would fill that roster during the entire storyline.

There are 5 DS chips, and adding them to your inventory shows that they're 266-270. However, there is a small issue. There's a darkchip that the string editor mentions that isn't actually selectable as mystery data in the mapeditor; DrkFlare. I don't recall if that was added later? The final boss chip has the same issue where you can't add it as mystery data.
As for the navi chips, if the final boss chip is meant to take up one of the spots (Again, can't figure out how to add it to my folder to check), i'd assume final boss, yuyuko, mima, and flandre would be 248-251. No clue what 203-205 are. Maybe they were intended to be Orin, if she was fightable?

The only reason multiple PAs were suggested for Utsuho is due to the fact she's one of 5 navis with a DS chip. Someone made a PA for her DS chip involving BlkNapalm, which I suggested as material for NuclearFlare. I've got a pretty good idea, there were (some spots where there could be) cameos in the credits, and the chip art for the weapons and the auras.
They might even have a problem with the panels in the 9x3 red/blue area, but that seems like bs, they're very different rivet patterns and they probably used the mmbn1 one where it's just outlined rectangles.
Wouldn't want to get anybody in trouble though, I'm faceless so I can get away with stuff but I don't know the rules on sharing legal notices, etc.

Just to be sure though I went through and reworked the panels, at least half of the battle effects, and the charge shot, I wasn't happy with how derivative all the pixels were.

Since the Z-stuff is all described as 'the hero's', maybe try and have it all be based on one character. The easy option is adult reimu's sillouhette because she's the main character of the franchise but you might have to change the attack visuals to fit then.

Oh no, I didn't mean have multiple PAs of Utsuho. Just one would suffice. Also, Yuyuko's battle patterns are basically the same, but she seems a lot faster now and loves to spam that silver flame barrage, and that's not even in her SP form. As for changing the Zero chips to Touhou-based things is a good idea. I'm down with that. If it's doable for Necro to change those, then by all means go through with it.

I'm gonna be completely honest here though. I think Capcom is only bitching about Shanghai because first of all, Koki decided to crowdfund it, which was a stupid idea in my opinion. That's usually what happens when you try to make money off of fangames without permission of the original company. You get slapped with a C&D. Second, I think they're just all salty and jealous that someone else made a much better modern Megaman game than they ever could (with the exception of MM11 that is) Like, I know corporations like Konami and Sega are completely braindead shitbirds, but Capcom is up there too

as you can see, the only reason this keeps happening is that they think it's the same person who got a C&D and just ignored it.
I don't think they are even looking at concrete infrigement (and they really don't have to, they got lawyers out of the ass you can't fight them) and they just keep blanket shotting.
