Why does the 4chan community seem to hate everything Japanese? I came back from a martial arts thread on /fit/ and a poster/posters are saying how they hate fucking weeaboos(I suppose they mean people who mentions anything Japanese), how did this hate start?

>> No.2267483

gaia and conventions.

>> No.2267492

Everyone hates weeaboos
We hate weeaboos at /jp/ more than anything

I would like to inform you that we here are not weeaboo but rather otaku.

But to most people on 4chan mentioning anything Japanese makes you a weeaboo.

>> No.2267519

The thread on /fit wasn't particularly "weeaboo", just mentions Katanas and Aikido.

There wasn't any of the typical Gaia Japan worshiping weeaboo.

Oh, them. Those are just new people trying to jump on the "cool" bandwagon.

>> No.2267528

>I suppose they mean people who mentions anything Japanese
People who do this at 4chan are just retards who hate the place they're posting in.

Everyone hates Naruto-headband-wearing, Sakura-con-goer weeaboos, though. It's only natural.

>> No.2267538

It's mostly a defensive reflex from seeing people show positive interest in what they view to be an inferior culture, which makes it seemingly less inferior, resulting them in calling you a names to debase your admiration.

>> No.2267548

>>2267476

Same reason people hate furfags or tripfags. The vocal minority act like complete and utter dicks and draw huge amounts of attention to themselves, so people tend to associate weeabooism\tripfagotry\whatever with dickish attention-whoring behaviour and so grow despise everything and everyone related with suck things.

>> No.2267558

>>2267476
Why do you care what normalfags from normalfag boards say?

>> No.2267593

Its unclear what "weeaboo" even means anymore. It's gotten a new meaning of its own outside of just "wapanese," and I suspect a lot of people who use it these days don't even know its origins.

When normalfags use it, it means both otaku and japanophiles

When otaku use it, it means japanophiles

When japanophiles use it, it means otaku

Basically, weeaboo just points to whatever part of the "Japanese-culture" fandom that one hates. So yeah, it's pretty natural that everyone hates weeaboo.

You are a fucking idiot.

There are plenty of very good reasons to hate tripfags, even "tripfriends" who provide positive contributions to the community are at the same time taking something away from it. If you can't understand why then you probably shouldn't be on 4chan.

And as for furries, see the attached classic pic.

4chan started hating wapanese when they forgot what the board was about. This was roughly equal to newfag summer when people started hating gaia and people kept coming to the board from raids.

Although it's strange, I wonder when 4chan started hating gaia (don't say since gaia existed, since gaia is older than 4chan and it was never mentioned before about 2005/6)

I like the concept of having tripfags, in general. The board would feel too lonely and impersonal without them. Throw in a few who aren't annoying (not too many) and you actually get the feeling of something that resembles a stable community. Anonymous posters come and go, some tripfags stay here for a long time and they're like familiar faces, watching them post and talk to each other is kind of like watching a soap opera.

Not to mention they're needed to balance anonymous posters out. Throw in too many anonymous posters and they tend to start behaving in a memetic way where all people do is repeat the opinions and behaviors others do just for the hell of it. It's good for us anonymous posters when tripfags go against us.

I suspect that most people on 4chan before the whole "gaiafag" thing got started didn't like gaia anyway though. It's a pretty awful website. I know I never liked it. There was just no real reason to talk about it on 4chan.

"Gaiafags" were just the final and largest scapegoat for 4chan's rise to popularity and subsequent flood of new users. Before gaiafags we had ytmndfags after the alliance on ytmnd-day and newgroundsfags after 4chan City made it big on Newgrounds.

I've been around since 2004 myself. Of course people aren't going to see 'Anonymous' as a familiar face, how would they even know?

Go lurk in /a/ for a few days. I bet you will change your mind.

Tripfag might be useful sometimes, for example if you are making smirk in the smirkthread or hosting the touhou highscore thread.

Outside of it, whats wrong with posting as anonymous? The only thing you can gain by posting as a tripfag is accumulatting shitty post to your tripcode or for trolling purpose i guess.

/a/ tripfags are shit because they all have their own annoying gimmick and/or think they're deities and that everyone else wants to hear their dumb opinion. There's also too many of them and most haven't been around for long enough. It's a recipe for disaster.

I like most of our tripfags. And for the shitposters, it's also a good thing they post with a trip. I mean, when you see Sion saying something dumb, you can just go "Oh, it's just Sion shitposting." Saves you from taking it seriously and actually bothering to type up a reply.

Recognition!
To be remembered!
Fame!
Infamy!
Respect!

If any of those words interest you then you might want to consider becoming a tripfag today! Although most of those above listed items are imagined, but feel free to use your imagination! Become an infamous denizen of 4chan today!

>> No.2267710

>>2267655
I can agree with that opinion. I think a lot of the damage that tripfags can do to an Anonymous community isn't dependant on the tripfags them selves, but how the community reacts to them.

I'm just objecting to idiots like >>2267548 for making stupid blanket statements, and >>2267627 and >>2267652 for stupid comebacks making it obvious that they have no idea how communities like 4chan actually work.

People who codemn the praise of Anonymous posting simply because of the whole "Anon is Legion XD" thing fail to realize that
a) they themselves are Anonymous
and
b) most of the people who caused the hate towards Anonymous pride were users of php forums/anti-Scientology communities where they would post with names, and are therefor not even Anonymous themselves.

tl;dr Anonymous the meme ≠ Anonymous the user

>> No.2267740

Allow me to interject with some copypasta

"One Toshiaki (the default name for an anonymous poster ) is as good (or as much a loser) as another." There is no reason for anyone to feel like they stand out as someone important in this Japanese community. If nicknames were used, as the creator of the board Hiroyuki Nishimura once explained in an interview, those people would gain authority in this network over time... an authority which would make it harder for others to tell them "what you say is wrong/boring/lame." Nishimura says, “All information is treated equally; only an accurate argument will work.” And: "People can only truly discuss something when they don’t know each other."

>> No.2267742

I agree with you on both points. I get more annoyed by anons who always start these long arguments about tripfags than I usually get by even the worst tripfags.

Also no one can expect /a/ tripfags to be good when the board itself is shit. Even /a/ anons are terrible.

I don't have one, and I personally don't like tripfags on most all occasions. But I do interact with tripfags sometimes without simply spouting hatred at them. When one calls out a tripfag for being a tripfag, the thread will quickly deteriorate into a trollfest, kind of like this thread right now. Sometimes that's okay, but sometimes I'm willing to live and let live in the spirit of keeping a thread's quality high. Depends on what kind of thread it is and how much I'm interested in the subject matter.
