Hey guys, I've always thought dolls were the coolest thing and love seeing images of them. I'm visiting Japan now and accidentally walked into Mandrake and saw the dolls and was hit with an immediate desire to get one. I'm very conflicted about buying one though. I heard dolls take a lot of responsibility and I am the farthest thing from responsible, especially since once my trip ends there go the spare parts. I'm just not the best with taking care of some of the things and I wouldn't want to disrespect a doll I own. I also have no idea what dolls have under their clothes and don't want Canada to nab me on my re-entry.

I saw some figmas and a lot of Little Armory parts here too and I'm wondering if there is a similar community of clothing for figmas or if it is viable to get a 1/12 doll to dress up into tactical gear and somehow have it use 1/12 little guns? Is there a lot of 1/12 doll clothes available? Would they be easier to take care of? I just wanna pose cute girls.

TL;DR can a retard own a doll, and if he can't are figmas or smaller dolls a suitable poseable alternative?

>> No.22656010

as long as you're gentle with her, occasionally comb her wig, and are careful about dark clothes, you should be fine. tons of retards own dolls.
figmas don't really feel the same, they're characters and you can't change their clothes. smaller dolls might be a nice alternative though as they're dressable and cute while being easier to transport and cheaper

there are tons of dyeing tutorials, or you might be able to commission one. also resinsoul(?) casts in blue.

if you wanna do the necromancer you would want an anime style head which would be hard to find a recast in. i'd recommend parabox for easy to obtain, cheap vinyl heads/bodies. you could buy some extra skin to test your dyes for a couple of dollars. i don't recommend recasts but i don't care enough to argue about it especially in this thread.

>> No.22656320

>>22656210
Sorry to break it to you anon, but there are no vinyl recasts except a shitty Miku and I think a Saber, but I haven't seen her. Blue is one of the colors that's harder to fuck up because there are so many blue shades that still look good. Get some junk parts off mandarake to practice beforehand, and take note that while joints will dye in seconds, vinyl parts can take minutes to show any change. Furthermore, use the dye power -- liquid dye isn't nearly as strong for whatever reason. Finally, whatever you do WILL fade to a lighter shade, so I recommend dyeing them way darker than you want and waiting a few weeks to call it. It's a lot of work, but follow your dreams.

Also, look into Dollfie Icons. There's a blue one, but right now they're super limited.

>>22655959
You can get spare parts in the west! Volks (Dollfie Dream makers) have an english website, and there are sites like Mandarake and even ebay you can buy things from. Don't let that put you off! Like other anons said, they're not so scary to take care of once you have one, and if they make you happy, go for it!

I think you'd like 1/6 dolls, anon. They have a lot of compatibility with props and clothes from other dolls by virtue of being roughly Barbie-sized. Parabox and Azone make some cute ones you can look into, and they're definitely cheaper to start with than a full-sized Dollfie Dream. Do what makes you happy!

I had to put my life on hold to care for my father after his stroke, he's in stage 5 kidney failure and I'm the only one left in our family so it's just... all on me. He doesn't know where he is sometimes, sometimes he can't even wipe his own ass, and it's not like we have money to hire someone or put him somewhere. I'm getting about three hours of sleep a night and I've never even kissed anyone. All my friends are hundreds of miles away and they have their own shit to deal with, and where I live everyone's on opiates or ODing on fentanyl. Walking to the store the other day someone offered to sell me heroin in the middle of the day. And on top of everything else, I... had to say goodbye to my best friend, my 19 year old dog, two months ago, who's been the only consistent thing in my life for all these years.

I get it dude. I get it so fucking much man, and I hate how fucked shit is for the both of us. You deserve to live though, anon, and if you die you'll never get a doll, and never see how things can improve. Life is rough right now, I'm struggling. I'm clinically depressed and have a shit ton of issues... but I still persist. There's still things to be found in the world worth going for, whether it's big or small- even if it's "cringe" or "stupid" if it makes your life worth living, who gives a shit? Chase your own happiness, anon. If dying is going to be the release you need, I won't begrudge that from you, because I wouldn't want anyone to deny me what I feel is a fundamental human right, to die with dignity. But... I don't think it's a wash, yet. You're young, anon.

It sounds like you're living in Shitsville right now. If you get the chance to get out, take it. Getting the fuck out of a place can be a lifesaver in the literal sense. And you're worth being saved.

I gave a friend of mine their first doll yesterday, a little parabox girl because those are what got me into the hobby and dressing/caring for them is relatively simple, also because I'm too broke to be giving anyone a dollfie. They keep sending me photos of her ever since -- this is a good hobby, despite what anyone else may think.

Yeah parabox sells out of shit constantly, unfortunately, give me a second.

It looks like there are some 24/26/27cm bodies in stock, which are slightly larger than this one but they'll work -- 27cm bodies fit Jenny clothes well and some barbie still will work, it's the usual kind of trial-and-error outfit picking.

Then just find a head they have in stock that will fit it -- or paint your own if you're so inclined, get the corresponding eye size and wig and some outfits and you're good to go. I was lucky to already have most of these things laying around, so I just grabbed another head -- I will always appreciate how cheap small dolls can be.

Happy New Year, dollanons, and happy new decade, too. I hope we all can make our doll(fie) dreams come true in 2020, and that we're all still in this hobby by the time 2030 rolls around. I hope that 2020 is kinder to everyone here who's struggling, and that everyone can find a way to get their grail doll, one way or the other, too. Y'all are good people, and joining this hobby has helped me through one of the toughest years of my life.

Thanks for everything, and be more outgoing this year. Traveling with your dolls, evenj ust to the store, is tons of fun -- people can be shit, but you'd be amazed how little grown adults care about what other grown adults choose to do in their spare time. Live the life that makes you happy, even if it's a little frightening at first. You deserve that. And if you haven't got a doll and want to, I hope this is the year.

Have a good one dollanons!

I think Azone dolls are good starter dolls. They're cute and fairly versatile. The only thing is they're kinda in an odd spot in scale, and outfit variety may suffer, but that's pretty small impact. As for what else to buy, you'll want/need a stand. A nice saddle style one will give you a lot of posing options, or there's the gooseneck one from ACBJD.com if you're willing to wait for shipping, it gives a lot of freedom in posing.

I hope you enjoy your new doll!

>> No.22710901

Iris collect? This is Azone's A-game. inserted not painted eyes. Styled wigs not rooted hair. Shares the body with pretty much everything else they make this size. What's not to love? I think this line of dolls are the pinnacle of their brand.

>Aside from doll and maybe a couple of accessories/outfit is there anything else I should get while I'm here for the doll'

If you need a cheap-ish stand they sell a modular clear plastic one made by Obitsu. Comes in a red box (pic related.) Might as well grab a bottle of Azone hair spray while you're at it too. (Red bottle, labeled "doll oil mist") bought one years ago and still plenty in it. And since you're in the Azone store, plenty of clothes to pick from. Check amiami.com and 1999.co.jp, anything you *CAN'T* get once you leave the country hassle-free, get it now. Some of their traditional wafuku and maid outfits are superb. Bunny outfits aren't bad either, and there's no shortage of fluffy lingerie.

Check the endcaps and bottom shelves. Basically comb the store. Azone stocks a lot of doll-sized accessories not made by Azone, or dolls for that matter, that work well for dolls. Stuff like keychains, furniture, etc. you get my drift. If you're drawing blanks, just come back later or the next day. You're bound to see something you initially missed.

How? Is this a problem? Just break down the taped parts with a boxcutter, collapse the box so its flat. Then use the seams for the flaps to fold it into a smaller tile and tape it in place. Shouldn't be larger than a pizza box when you're done.

Retard here that was asking about a first doll. My trip is almost over and I can delay my desires no longer. Tomorrow I get my doll. Today I scoped out the rest of the 50cm section of the Azone store at Radio Kaikan and wrote down what clothes I wanted and oh man it's gonna cost a pretty penny.

I have found the stand and the mist >>22710901 mentioned, but I found some other stuff that raised a lot of questions. I'm seeing a lot of different detachable Obitsu eyes. Are they Iris Collect compatable? Should I get a spare? Do you guys change the eyes out a lot for fun?
I saw some spare heads but the lips always stayed the same. Does the doll come with more than one expression? If not, how easy is it to get more? Same question for hands: saw some cute obitsu hands doing peace signs and stuff. Is it worth to buy to supplement whatever the base doll gets? Hands are 50AC-FS001W if that means anything.

Should I get another wig for her? Do you guys find you change wigs often for your girls or almost never? Do you colour match the hair to the eyes? Is it weird having a doll transform her appearance so drastically? If I get a spare wig but decide not to use it, what is a good way to store it? Are there special procedures?
I found some AZO2 chest segments that have much smaller breasts. I believe the doll originally is very stacked as they say. Would it be weird to see how smaller chests look on her? Just like with hair, is it not weird to change your doll so much? Should I let her chest be?

First of all point of your doll is to enjoy yourself and change things up how you like. It's not weird changing your dolls appearance often if you make yourself feel weird about it.
As far as I know, eyes depend on the size of the dolls head, check which ones Iris Collect uses and just get the same size.
Dolls withs more varied expressions are usually (from what I've seen) custom heads, prices are high if you're comissioning one and higher if you're a nut trying to compete with people on YJA.
If you feel like getting hands go for it, just make sure it fits her. I found myself wanting new hands for my own girl after I got her so you'll probably be the same.
I personally like changing the wigs and having a lot of different hair styles, don't think the eye and hair color matching matters much unless you're more picky about color
schemes.
And yes change the titty as much as you want it's not weird just do it

Doubt it. Obitsu eyes are for smaller eyeholes. Iris collect are more like Dollfie Dream style. There have been many fails trying to put Obistu eyes in Dollfie Dreams. Personally don't worry about changing eyes.

>I saw some spare heads but the lips always stayed the same. Does the doll come with more than one expression?

No, just one expression, they're not figmas. If you see dolls with multiple expressions it's usually several customs made by the same person. In general I treat most Obitsu parts as relics. Short of the ones shared with Azones (since Azones are all Obitsu inside and mostly Obitsu outside) I usually steer clear

What the fuck, I mean I genuinely don't follow these trends and haven't looked at anything like this since like 2 or so years, but why are they so expensive now?

Am I fucking up with my search parameters or something? These are the results I get under "dollfie dream". Pros of Smart Dolls
-Easily available skintone options
-There are elf ears and it's easy to get heeled feet and more hands generally
-They have a joint in their back you can hook a stand onto for taking photos which is honestly fucking fantastic.
-Though expensive, the clothes and wigs are honestly really well-made.
-Vinyl bodies pose better, "Cortex" (plastic) bodies don't stain as easily.
-They have male dolls, but they're pretty hard to get lately. Easier than a Dollfie boy, though.

Cons of Smart Doll
-No blank heads and dubiously available spare bodies
-Nowhere near as common on the aftermarket
-In my personal experience the elbow joints can be fiddly, baby them. Also if the spine comes loose putting it back together is a pain in the ass.
-The sculpts all kind of have sameface
-The licensed Smart Dolls almost always look wack
-You never know when something's going to be discontinued and there are a lot of one-offs that are sold for inflated prices
-Danny, the SmD creator, is pretty divisive himself.

Overall I have several Smart Dolls and I am pretty fond of them, I like both they and Dollfie Dreams (and Obitsu girls, too.) It's up to aesthetics at the end of the day.

Wait these come in male? Fuck I am so new to this, I tried googling it and it says they are all out of stock with no plans to restock. This sucks, I wouldn't mind buying a mix of male and female ones. >> No.22748565

Danny'll release more male dolls eventually, he recently changed his "main" skintone from "milk" (really pale) to "cinnamon" (slightly less pale) so the stock hasn't changed yet.

Volks just released male dollfie dreams as a regular part of their lineup, but right now you can only get them if you physically go to Japan, because...reasons, I guess. There are also a few limited male dolls from both companies -- your best bet for now is trying to find a used Dollfie Dream Len Kagamine or Kirito body for males, unfortunately. As more male dolls trickle into the vinyl hobby it'll get easier.

Nah, the background dolls are already released limited models of anime characters from Code Geass. Unfortunately when it comes to Danny nothing is ever set in stone -- he's been teasing a cocoa (dark skintone) boy for YEARS and we still don't have the fucker. Restocks of the other ones happen now and thne, it'll probably happen at least once this year. We also have reason to believe he has a licensed Batman (or Batgirl?) Coming soon, so there's that.

Can you clarify? It is perhaps cause I am new to the hobby, or they just take them from flattering angles, but I am not seeing anything wrong with the faces compared to my current dollfie dolls.

Even the ones that say that there are no plans to restock on the site? I am not seeing any males on the site that are not set as "no plans to restock".

I'm just assuming Danny's not stupid enough to entirely cancel the male dolls given that he still holds that market as far as vinyl dolls go. Most of the limited dolls (based on anime characters) are discontinued unless the license holder requests another run.

The batman doll was teased here, Danny's got contracts with all kinds of people because his dad is a famous shoe maker, so anything's possible. It'll take me a bit to dig out the last time he mentioned the cocoa boy.

He posted here about the cocoa boy in 2017, and in 2018 or 2019 he posted an update asking for feedback on the face sculpt. Danny is notoriously sensitive to anything even perceived to be criticism, so I'm assuming that's part of why we still do not have the cocoa boy all the way in 2020. >flat faces
Basically if you look at most dollfies, they have... more pronounced cheekbones, and their faces are more rounded in profile with defined chins and other facial planes. Smart dolls look like you cut a sphere in half and stuck a nose on it, then carved eyes and a mouth into the flatness. There is an exception in the Kurenai sculpt, but she's both discontinued and highly sought after in every skintone, so getting one is expensive and hard.

Danny is extremely active on social media, which is where a lot of the problems people have with the brand originate. He over gushes about ideas that never come to fruition, and takes every complaint from customers as a personal attack against himself and the brand then will radically changes things with no warning because of them.

One such incident I remember someone complained that a pair of boots that were supposed to be weathered had one that was rubbed down too much, and the other barely touched causing the overall look to be uneven. He went on a three day tirade about people not getting his vision, and then made it so you had to read and check a box that you got what he was trying to do before you could buy something from his site. The doll is safely in her new home.
Forgive the low quality of this photo, it's 5am and the only lamp I can really use right now is incredibly yellow.

Putting on clothes is hard, I think I already gave her a scratch on her thigh which absolutely killed me inside. Seeing her finally come together though was amazing and I'm going to try my best to be more careful in the future. Hopefully this gets easier as time goes on. I'm really not a fan of the skirt on her default outfit though, it's so long and tight it kills her mobility by tying her legs down. Fortunately I had a brain aneurysm in the Azone store and got many outfits.

Now before I pass out, help me with some questions anons. I realized in my rush that I do not have any sort of tiny brush at the moment, used my clean hands to mess with her hair so far. I'm out unfortunately, I didn't manage to notice any combs when I was checking the Azone store, but I asked then about some other accessories earlier and was told they were sold out, maybe they ran outta combs too. I was buying this stuff in a trance honestly so maybe I just missed it.
The store upstairs didn't have as much things that I liked so I kinda forgot about it after checking it out for the first time, because I am an idiot. The girls on display there were pretty cute though, this Fate girl looked pretty.

Ah, a fellow 50cm new doll friend. Post your doll!

>>22759788
Found an open top box to stack all my stuff in and using it now while I have all the packaging still, a chest just for the clothes is a pretty good idea though. I guess I'll decide on the name later, my grandma came into the room to see the doll in the morning and asked if I named her yet, filling me with more questions than I had answers.

So when you have to look at inappropriate stuff on the internet, what do you do to your doll. Do you turn her away from you and the screen? Aren't dolls smart enough to figure out what you're doing? Do you gotta like put them to bed and tuck them in so the blanket covers their ears and eyes don't see you or the screen? I don't want my doll to know I'm doing these things.

So we’re selling a bunch of dolls on EBay, already sold Neris, Miku, and an Angelphilia. Next to go will probably be Airy, maybe Nero and some others. 2019 fucked us over and, well, it’s better to sell the girls than be homeless. So if any of you end up being their new home please care for them and give them happy lives, they’ve all been in boxes in a closet for a very long time.

Is she the Obitsu life size?

Kind of related, anyone looking at those Parabox 80cm girls coming out? Fu-Chan is so cute but I’m kind of terrified of the size. Can’t tell if it’s appealingly convenient or the creepiest thing ever that she can wear real baby clothes.

If it's any protip I would join some doll facebook groups and sell them there instead. Most of the buyers/sellers there are enthusiasts already, they're mostly girls so they won't get jizzed on, and you won't get dinged with ebay fees.

The vast majority of my adopted girls I have purchased from there.
And I saw your Neris on ebay before it got sold; I already had one though.
Good luck with your future sales anon.

Dude fuck those people. you have buyer/seller protection not private sale drama. I used to sell used equipment on ebay and got similar B.S. like "I don't think it's worth that much" or "can you end it now and I can pay you after the next two paychecks?" fuck those people. Do what works for you.

Sorry work is on the downturn for you. Hope everything works out.

This is the annoying thing about selling on social media unfortunately. Low ballers galore. I get it for some necessities like cars but for dolls, come on. Most of the time when I do ask for discount it's for when I buy a lot of their items and it's only about 10% or so. Majority of the time I pay the asking price if it's already reasonable.

>> No.22780784

>>22780353
Usually the most I've ever asked for is combined shipping, the only time I consider it socially acceptable to haggle is at yard sales and flea markets. I've done layaways, too, but it's mostly "can i give you half now and the other half on my next paycheck in two weeks."

I'd hate to be the kind of waffling buyer that makes the seller miserable.

see if I was in the other guy's position this would offend me, he needs cash in a bad way. I once held an auction for a week while someone got their shit together and three others hit me up in the meantime. Now I just ignore B.S., Someone else comes along and I wasted no time entertaining someone.

Oh, I meant in the past -- when I do encounter someone doing a quick sale for personal reasons, I just explain that I'm not the buyer for them (or I find a way to pony up the cash) and wish them a good sale. I'd never ask someone who's in a pinch to hold on for me, because you're right -- that is shitty.

Just buy resin.

Resin can stain too though, can't it?

>>22783003
Depends on what it is. For simple shit like shirts I've hand-washed it before in the sink until water runs clear with just water and plain ivory soap. Some people rinse them in white vinegar, I've heard. For more delicate or intricate outfits you might just want to invest in a bodysuit to mitigate stains, though.

What is that even? I apparently live under a rock.

>> No.22785117

Resin can stain, but in my experience it takes a lot more to do and stays surface level unless it’s solvent based inks or oil stains (like makeup). Had an older Volks resin doll in a black unwashed dress for about 8 years and her body blushing went dark blue but her resin was spotless, and my SO put fresh Volks denim on an Iplehouse for months and she only had a tiny bit of blue around her joints that came off with magic eraser. Both outfits have stained vinyl dolls near instantly just from slightly brushing against them in a display case for a week or two tops.
