Chapter 3 by trexalfa, and today's update (we've already gotten a summary last week, but this one is more detailed).


Chapter 3, titled "Husk Star", takes us to one of the locations referenced in Chapter 2, during Quinn and Samruhk's visit to the Planetarium: Dragon Husk Star Zahhak. If you recall correctly, this was the domain of the Archdemon occupying Rank 6, Kaikhosru. Well, here we have a description of the planet.

Basically, it is a complete wasteland. The earth is completely barren, the ground is made of reddish sand, there are rocky mountains abound, with heavy clouds covering it all. There are no signs of rain, and powerful wind blows sandstorms that take everything with them. The entire place is like the corpse of some gigantic living organism... and indeed, that's the truth.

From space, the place looks like a simple ball of dirt. However, it wasn't always like that, as it was a green world full of life till 200 years ago. This planet, Dragon Husk Star Zahhak, has 4 continents, with a single sea in between them all. What happened in this planet was similar to the fable about the goose that laid a single golden egg a day, but a man grew impatient and tried to tear its stomach open to get everything inside. Well, something far worse happened here.

A man, in his greed, murdered the planet's Star Spirit, devoured it and in the process, took its riches and power for himself, taking over the throne of the planet's sovereign spirit. This man was Kaikhosru, ranked 6th amongst the Archdemons. Even though he wasn't born a Star Spirit, he is by no means weaker than the real deal, as he took everything from the planet's previous ego. However, there's a certain distortion in him that a natural born Star Spirit wouldn't have. As the absolute strongest species in Ahura Mazda, a Star Spirit born under the Evil alignment would probably become an Archdemon. That's the case with natural born Star Spirits Khvarenah and Mashyana, and now, what Kaikhosru experienced when becoming a Star Spirit by killing and devouring one.

To its previous consciousness, the planet was akin to its own body. Therefore, it rained its blessings and protected its inhabitants and environment, not doing so would be tantamount to suicide. However, as an usurper, Kaikhosru sees Zahhak in a very different light: it is but the spoils of war, a mere ornament he sees as a hermit crab would see its shell. Plus, Kaikhosru has a very special disposition even within the Archdemons: his ideology is greed itself, hence his Covetous Dragon nickname. He doesn't see greed as being a vice of the lowly, and thus will spoil and plunder from his newly adquired shell till there's nothing left. Zahhak, being just a shell, will be left behind once there isn't anything to exploit upon it, just for Kaikhosru to take over some other planet to repeat the process. Wherever he and his army establish their headquarters, it'd be his territory. After 200 years of exploiting, Zahhak is nearing its limit, being a borderline dead world, previously a cradle for life cared for by a Golden Star Dragon, now spoilt by an Evil Dragon.

And the society in this place is not better in that regard. Corpse eating animals run rampant, food is so scarce you have apex predators who normally avoid each other entering into brawls to eat each other, just to not die out (gigantic beetles and lizards large enough to swallow horse whole being among them), and even wandering humans reduced to a zombie like state due to their sorry state, and they scavenge for everything just to eat, they even eat bones due to lack of other food. These humans previously lived in villages but the constant bad harvests, plus the insane taxes on top of that, drove them away to seek better places to live. Basically, anyone living in Zahhak is just living a hopeless life, suffering while waiting for the end to come. Kaikhosru's forces and government officials, which rule over the peasants and form a priviledged social class of sorts, are all Dragvant, though there are no Daeva amongst them.

And they do whatever they wish to, even though they refrain from killing the peasants (which means resisting urges coming directly from their Avesta, since peasants are Ashavan) most of the time, they plunder their harvest at leisure, rape women and kill children for sport. While they indulge in vice and luxury, to them, these Ashavan are only a slave race of sorts. They tend to hunt down escapees, on the back of their bipedal lizard mounts, then killing them, giving in to their Avesta while chanting their lord's name in praise. The only thing in the mind of these Dragvant servants is their Avesta (thus, their revulsion towards the peasants) as well as fear of invoking the wrath of their lord.

The refugees seek a better place to live, an Oasis... and indeed, such a place is not an illusion. It is one of the 18 Oasis on Zahhak, basically extremely big, pristine cities that completely break the planet's general theme. They extend from a big lake in their center, extending further while forming circles. At the center, a great quartz tower stands. The one Oasis the story focuses on is Quartz Palace Arzhang. Even though it looks beautiful... do not think the situation for the refugees gets any better by getting here, if anything, it gets worse. Dying from lack of nourishment, corpses from refugees gather in back alleys. The surviving ones (who, at the very least, haven't fallen into cannibalism YET, therefore remaining true to their Avesta) are forced to do sanitary work and throw the corpses out of Arzhang in carts, at night, after stripping them of their clothes, just to earn a minimum of food. If caught, the guards will instantly execute them on charges of "tarnishing the city's beauty". Even mouring the dead was forbidden. Thus, this is a world divided in two distinct classes, based on their alignment: the Ashavan suffer tyrannical opression while the Dragvant indulge in pleasure and excess.

The tower is home to the one governing Arzhang in Kaikhosru's name, a high ranking Daeva that bears the honor of being one of Kaikhosru's 18 favourite mistresses, Quartz Princess Nadia. Oasis like Arzhang are places of key importance for Kaikhosru, being "power spots" from which he draws Star Spirit blessing (how this impacts on his overall nature and power as a Star Spirit himself I don't know). Therefore, their rule is entrusted to his kenzoku, his 18 mistresses, each one ruling an Oasis. Each of Kaikhosru's mistresses bear the "Princess" title, preceded by the name of a jewel/precious gem, the shine of which is determined by the mistress' rank within their internal hierarchy. Nadia herself is a recent addition, thus a low ranked mistress, ranking 17 out of 18. Her lair within the tower is big enough to fit an entire village inside, however, she only uses the space to bathe in wine (Which is awfully similar to the spilled blood of peasants), while drinking the special wine provided by her lord, which is easily capable of breaking the mind of any normal human who drinks it. Nadia, being a high ranking Daeva, can endure such effects, while getting instantly drunk.

Even though Kaikhosru used to visit Arzhang frequently to receive the power spot's blessing, he is not showing up. He is unusually late. Nadia is getting anxious over it, being madly in love with her Covetous Dragon liege. Despite her youth (physically, she appears to be around 17-18 years old), she believes her beauty and fervour superior to even her seniors, thus in her own superiority over them, despite the fact she's only been one of his favourite mistresses for 30 years by now. She believes the Covetous Dragon will promote her in due time. In the meantime, while Kaikhosru doesn't show up, she plans to indulge in all kinds of pleasures she can imagine. Meat, sex, slaughter. She casually plans on slaughtering 10,000 peasants a day from that point onwards. Her eyes get dyed in the colour of gold, signifying her daemonic nature, giving vibes of a beautiful, yet insanely dangerous siren.

Kaikhosru then finally shows up... kinda. He does so through an avatar, an ametyst dragon from which the Dragon Wine Nadia drinks sprouts. His voice thunders all over Arzhang, the voice of God as far as this star is concerned. While Nadia is totally exalted just hearing her lord's voice, she is somewhat resentful, as she expected him to show up in person, and not through an avatar. Kaikhosru's real manifestation body is somewhere else altogether. The Quartz Princess had let it slip her plans to kill off any potential competitors, as she thinks a new mistress has been inducted into their ranks, which would threaten her chances to become Kaikhosru's favourite. Plus, she had slaughtered too happily, giving in to her lord's greed motto while only thinking of herself.... and not of Kaikhosru. All of Zahhak's lives, resources, and reaches, are Kaikhosru's property, and are his to exploit. To the core, till even the dregs of their souls are no more. And he is not letting any underling, whoever it may be, spoil his property without need. As a punishment, the Covetous Dragon instantly turns Nadia and Arzhang's entire population, Ashavan or Dragvant, into gems.

And now, we are thrown into the action of our protagonists. The Yazata team formed by Quinn, Samruhk, Ferdows and Zurvan, are already on Zahhak's surface, the place their mission will take place in. Right now, the four Yazata are in horse carriages in a cramped caravan, after managing to find some allies amongst the local peasantry. Samruhk and Ferdows, who are very much alike, are seething from the sheer outrage, regarding the state Zahhak is in. Zurvan, despite being in the same team, doesn't share a carriage with the other 3, something for which they are thankful for.

For one, Zurvan's status as the most hated person amongst the Yazata is not for show, they can't stand him and his attitude, and consider him even worse than Magsarion. While the Wicked Yazata might be a loner, Zurvan is a flat out toxic person. He is also letting the others do all the hard work while he doesn't do anything at all: previously in Wahman Yast, when they used Sewatir to teleport onto Zahhak, Zurvan ordered Quinn to use up one of her feathers to take them all there (by using the already known feature of group teleportation if you touch the feather's user), despite the fact that it is standard fare for the highest ranking person in the team (who is obviously Zurvan) to do it. All of this while mumbling about how that's the role for small fry like them.

Regarding Magsarion, he is to join their team for this mission which is, you guessed it, slaying Archdemon Kaikhosru. He will, nevertheless, join them when he has replenished all of his feathers. Samruhk specially is not looking forward to that moment. However, something feels off. Sirius sent just them to face Kaikhosru head on, which would be obvious suicide. The ace up Sirius' (and the rest of Wahman Yast's) sleeve is revealed when Zurvan contacts Quinn through her telepathy, which is meant to prevent Kaikhosru from learning of their plans. As the ruling Star Spirit of Zahhak, the entire ball of dirt they are on is Kaikhosru's body, so he has awareness about anything happening on it (this is pretty similar to a Hadou God's awareness over their territory seen in KKK, in fact). They are all, even Magsarion and Zurvan himself, bait. The true agent that will carry out the mission had already infiltrated Zahhak 5 years ago. The agent is a Yazata going by the name of Alma, the last remaining survivor from the battle against Khvarenah from 20 years ago we still had to meet (yeah, she's the lone Yazata on a mission in a planet far away mentioned in Chapter 2. This planet was Zahhak, as we now know). She's a really high ranking Yazata and, while Magsarion and Zurvan dwarf her military achievements, she has the largest kill count when it comes to Class One Daeva.

Alma has a really special ability: she's able to "confuse" Avesta, being able to disguise her own alignment in front of third parties. The plan is an assassination, which Alma will manage by becoming Kaikhosru's newest mistress.

Aaaaaand this is it for Chapter 3 part 1. I'm really sorry for the delay, but uni work really had my hands tied. And of course, given it is Friday, we got a lore dump regarding this new chapter, with juicier info than most of the preceding ones. Thus, I'm also including it in this post.

Dragon Husk Star Zahhak:

Star of exploitation and tyranny ruled by Kaikhosru. In terms of planets that can be feasibly inhabited by mankind, it easily enters into the gigantic category, its diameter being of approximately 100,000 kilometres. Its size is nearly 8 times that of Wahman Yast. Because of that, it was originally a star that overflowed with abundant life, however, since Kaikhosru usurped the throne of the Star Spirit 200 years ago, it has continued along the path of ruin, the number of organisms starting with humans are a mere 5% of what they were before. It could be said to be already a corpse, in essence.

In spite of the situation, the severe exploitation hasn't become softer in the slightest, the planet's current condition still has a minority of Dragvant still tyranize a great majority of Ashavan, and who plunder the little remaining riches and blessings.

The residents' agony, resentment and despair make it a foremost Evil environment, one that can surely embody the Hells of Preta and Animals.

Archdemon Kaikhosru:

One of the seven absolute Evils existing within this world.


He is the evil Star Spirit ruling over Zahhak, holding the nickname of Covetous Hungry Dragon. His true form is that of a dragon, clad in scales of jewels and precious metals, gigantic enough to coil itself around the entire star. Nonetheless Kaikhosru, who killed his predecessor and stole his throne, is distorted as a Star Spirit, far from losing his human greed, it increased to its outmost limits instead: gluttony, sexual desire, lust for control over all, as well as insatiable lust for power.

Although he can be said to be a true incarnation of vulgarity, it could be said that he obtained this as a special ability when becoming a Star Spirit: the power to change his enemies into precious gems and gold. The range of this power is the entirety of Zahhak and, in addition, it cannot be resisted as a rule of thumb. This is because, within his territory and beyond, if you are unable to maintain your life without depending on Kaikhosru's "Dragon Energy" (earth, atmosphere, water, etc) that is, without taking in part of Kaikhosru himself, his will cannot be opposed.

Of course, this is widely known by uninvited visitors from other stars: Yazata and other Archdemons. The above means that, within Zahhak, it is nearly impossible to oppose Kaikhosru's daemonic karma. If his ability is being resisted, it'd take some time and conditions for it to take effect.

Favourite Mistresses:

In a more general sense, the term points to a powerful person's favoured concubines.

In the context of the story, it refers to 18 female Daeva who act as Kaikhosru's consorts. Each of them, crowned with the name of a precious gem, are entrusted with Zahhak's 18 Oasis Cities. So to speak, they are akin to feudal lords. Their ranking is determined by the amount of favour they receive from their king, Kaikhosru, expressed with a variety of precious stone and an Oasis' wealth. From the top they are:

Dragon Jewel.
Vajra (the indestructible substance, though this word can also be translated as diamond or adamantite).
Ruby.
Azure Jewel.
Emerald.
Indigo Jewel.
Topaz.
Blood Jewel.
Lapis Lazuli.
Pearl.
Moonstone.
Pomegranate.
Jade.
Amber.
Coral.
Agate.
Quartz.
Obsidian.

While all of them are at the very least Class One Daeva, the highest ranking one, the Dragon Jewel Princess, belongs to the Special Class (she is a Quasi Archdemon). Because they all exert themselves into winning Kaikhosru's love, every day they aim at being beautiful, obscene and evil seductresses among seductresses.

It kiiinda sounds like if you have some ability that can actually compete against his(perhaps much like two hadous clashing or effects that oppose etc.), then it's up to the specific conditions and effort exerted by each ability. (did they take in something from Kaikhosru ? if the effect is being used on a large number of people then there might be less focused effort on each, etc)

Maybe Vohu Manah's blessings can actually allow Yazata to resist for a limited time should he try to use that power on them ? Perhaps via conceptual defense boost and all that.

Sam and Kshatra both work by making things be more massive and solid in their effects but in turn becoming 'heavier'.

Fravard and Sewatir allows you to the achieve flight and teleportation by doing the opposite to break away from the constraints of physics, so you become 'lighter'.

It's easy to see how Fravard might work and Sewatir is explained as a 'hole in space' kind of warping. However, how do you differentiate Sam and Kshatra under their own core workings ? I believe Sam covers exerting of force(towards turning unstoppable) and Kshatra covers resistance to outside forces(towards turning impenetrable).

Hence Kshatra might work against the transmutation by resisting changes in physical state of being.

I feel like I have to correct this. Only the Dragvant were transmuted. The Ashavan were specifically left alive. It was a pretty dark scene, even if they knew that they would only face worse tyranny they couldn't help themselves from crying from being saved. Then the dragon nigger says how they can pray, praise whatever miracle they want in the end he decides their life span and they can't die on their own, nor should they think about running away.

This begs an interesting question. All the references found in the first and second throne, both Christian and Zoroastrian must be extremely familiar to the inhabitants of the 4th heaven, specifically to Snek and Reinhard.. Ignoring the obvious meta reasons, what if the world of Shinza follows a specific framework based on age zero? For example, Reinhard says that the gathering of the gods reminds him of the Roman Pantheon, which prompts Marie to ask what a Pantheon is which Snek explains the the Greek word which means every god. To someone like Muzan, in other words an inhabitant of the first heaven, words like Pantheon and Greek must be completely alien. However, Kouha and Mithra obviously knew the word Pantheon and it's meaning. Did that knowledge come from age zero? Does each world of Shinza have to follow a specific framework which existed in the pre-throne age? When Snek does his reset bullshit, did he reset everything to its primordial state (before any other previous heaven) and everything developed exactly the same as age zero? The meta reason is obviously because Masada wants a cool chuuni background but what if there was a deeper meaning behind it?

They were probably too busy putting their own input into the mix to put any sort of instruction handbook or way to ease any Satanels having to constantly modify their Law the same way people do software updates. He made his son's girlfriend literally his right arm. He taught Nazis to use Jew magic. Whatever that sword is that Muzan possesses as a God and what Quinn is shown holding in the main banner should make an appearance relatively soon, and who know how it'll function. Avesta is seemingly supposed to a relatively short work like 1.5mbs of text, that and the fact that they have to deal with the demon kings in rapid succession in a relatively short time frame in accordance with the Avesta as well. Given all that, I imagine they'll be done with Zahhak by chapter 5, maybe 6 at the latest. We know that Muzan has never lost once so I can't imagine they'd be forced to retreat without dealing with Kaikhosru. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds and how Magsarion manages to handle the situation as a whole, it's real hard to try to guess what might come next.

Mercurius is based on concepts like eternal reoccurence and himself isn't exempt from his own fates and destiny. His schtick is resetting over and over if his goal isn't achieved, with the new timeline being closer to his desired result i.e. No Hajun in Rea's route, but the constant retries alone show he can't directly railroad people's actions like the scriptwriter he wishes to be. In Nordic stories, Ragnarok was more or less inevitable with exact events outlined. Odin was desperately trying to delay or prevent it but it was going to eventually happen. Mithra is one of the main gods back when the area between Persia and India is still dominated by Proto-Indo-Iranian before they separate into Avesta (West) and Vedic (East). As the title is Aditya I will assume Zeroth is using Vedic Gods, an assumption supported by the existence of Varuna itself. In the Rigveda (Vedic version of Bible), there are 7 Adityas:
1. Varuna (sea)
2. Mitra (covenant)
3. Surya (sun)
4. Chandra (moon)
5. Kamadeva (desire)
6. Agni (fire)
7. Indra (sky)

There are lots of other version as well even back during the Vedic period, but these 7 are the most common ones. Post-Vedic period, the numbers are increased to 7. In the Rigveda and other Veda, it's also mentioned the 8th Aditya, Martanda, who is shunned by his parent and so not counted among the other 7.

Pantheon was going to initially be a mobage so it's possible Masada was setting seeds for possible continuations even after they explore all Thrones.
