The meme about Sagume is that her speech makes the opposite of what is said become real or something like that, right? Kyouko being great at mimicking or echoing speech to the degree that she copied the meme ability ended up making her original ability disappear.

i don't totally understand sagume's ability, but it's supposed to be "her words make a situation reverse itself"
i don't think she can actually change reality so kyouko stops being a yamabiko, people have just made it the joke that sagume doesn't speak at all. i'm fairly certain she could speak about past or factual events without causing changes, but maybe i'm wrong

As I understand it, her ability makes events going in the opposite direction of what she said, but it's not immediate nor absolute.

As an example, if Sagume says that Reimu won't get any money, then over time more people than usual might visit the shrine and leave some money in the box.
But it's still possible that someone steals the money, making her poor again despite what Sagume said.
Of course she could also obtain money from various other methods, but again there's a chance that something prevents her to keep it in the end.

It really only works for reversing the current situation, it has no effects on objets. Like, she can't look at a dog and say "That's a cat!" and poof, not a dog anymore. That won't work, but its still funny to joke about it.

however, i'm still interested at the scope of that. what if she said "the people adding 2 + 2 will get an answer of 4?" that's an event that hasn't yet resolved, and yet unless her power magically makes everyone cirno, or straight up kills everyone doing math, then i can't see how it would reverse the situation
i guess we and her are supposed to assume the worst when it comes to stuff like that and that's why she doesn't speak, since you can't rule out that saying that would kill or stupefy everyone

My take on this is that "Reversing a situation with her words" is not her real ability; her real ability is whatever she used to create the occult balls, probably her divines virtues allowing her to have a degree of control over language and the way it models reality.

But Sagume is not simply a goddess, she is an Amanojaku goddess.

Amanojakus are spirits of contradiction and as such believes in what is false instead of what is true.
For instance, since "Being loved is good" is generally recognized as true, amanojakus believes that "being loved is bad, being hated is what is good" and thus Seija say that she likes being hated.

But Sagume is not a simple Amanojaku either; she is Ame-no-sagume, the very goddess that created the concept of Amanojakus.
She does not believe what is false to be true, she define what is false.

As such, when speaking about something whose truth of falsehood is already clearly determined, "2+2=4", there is nothing much left to do.
But when speaking about things whose truth or falsehood is yet to be determined, "Reimu won't get any money tomorrow", what Sagume say can only be false, and fate itself is ready to reverts its course to prove it.

In the end, I see Sagume's words as things that can close off a potential future ; and what's really dangerous is the unknown of how much the world will have to distort itself to accommodate for a future that wasn't the one planned.
