Post photographs and videos you or others have taken around Japan.
Modern or traditional, urban or rural, landscape or macro, anything is good.

Try to keep pictures natural looking if possible.
If you know the location a photo was taken, it is useful to post it with the image.

>Anon who usually starts these threads said he would be too busy to keep this runing, and asked for someone to continue this for a while.

Last one was awesome thanks to all!
Everyone, help keep this alive again

Aoni Onsen, Aomori. No electricity (except for the cash registers and of), no cell service. Lit entirely by oil lamps. Been around since the 1920s. There's 2 outdoor hot springs, one is mixed gender. There's 3 other separated onsens as well. Beautiful.

Absolutely delicious, do you know the names of the dishes? Guessing it's Aomori and autumn specialties? The skewered fish (I think saba?) is something I've been wanting to eat again since coming back.
Here's dinner from a ryokan in Gora, Hakone during the summer. The sashimi cubes were so meaty, never knew sushi could actually taste like fruit.

The shuttle picks you up at Inakadate Michi no Eki. It's about a 20 minute bus ride to the onsen. Where are you coming to the Michi no Eki from?
If you're coming from the airport (Aomori), here's the best course of action:
Airport bus to Aomori Station, get off at Namioka Eki Mae.
Take the train from Namioka to Hirosaki, transfer trains and go to Kuroishi.
Take a taxi from there, should run you about ¥2300 for the train and bus, maybe ¥800-¥1500 for the taxi.

Mainlanders are a scourge, but fortunately it's not too hard to avoid them and many other tourists. Go see major tourist sights like Fushimi Inari in the early hours before most people are up. Like 6-9AM. After 9, major sights turn into a zoo. Outside of that, Kyoto is a major city. There's plenty of cozy areas you can wander around in get lost in off the tourist track, and there's little neighboring towns with neat shit like Hikone and Hikone castle that most foreigners never visit.

I didn't really notice a difference in non-Japanese tourists when I went in 2017 vs 2019. long ago when i was in nagoya i remember happening upon an entire shopping district devoted to opulent home shrines. every store for blocks was a showroom of tall, gilded, ornate cabinets, and i couldn't see a single person anywhere, neither on the street nor in the stores. no customers, no clerks, nobody. still feels like i dreamed it

Every other city I've been to in America looks like absolute garbage after touring alot of Japanese cities. I touched down in LA after a couple months stay but for all I care I might as well's touched down in Port Au Prince.

To be fair, LA is a pretty prime shithole. There are good cities in america too. It's just the vast majority are terrible, especially the major metropolitan areas.

Good parts for aesthetics at least.
Chicago's well-maintained areas are some of my favorites of any urban center, including East Asia.
Small farming/mountain/seaside towns are unimpressive, but can be gorgeous.

But Japan, along with Korea and Taiwan, have the most consistently decent urban environment from where I've travelled, even in the worst/poorest parts.

Yeah no doubt. I just feel like most people don't give american cities a fair shake since most people only think of the crime-ridden metro areas or the meth filled podunk towns.
But I digress, this is a thread about japan.

Visited Zenkoji temple in Nagano last year, it was around sunset and we just decided we didn't want a karaoke evening and actually see something of the city (we were there just to stay over night).
At that time, the temple was already closed, but the area is still open to visit, just no business anymore, no tourists and very few Japanese. We almost had the temple area for ourselves.
You are in the middle of Nagano, but it's quite quiet, except for the cicadas. Almost as if you enter a whole different area. Having sunset and then night setting in also added alot to the scenerey, atmosphere-wise it was one of the best parts of my tour.

I've never longed to return to a place like Japan before. The funny thing is the first trip I took there was a group thing and I only went because all my friends were going and I figured I wasn't going to soon get another chance to do another giant group trip like this. Japan wouldn't have even been my first choice, before going I had basically no interest in the place. Nothing could've prepared me for how deeply it soaked in, the whole thing. There just a certain energy and way to it that I can't really articulate. I'm going again with a couple friends next year just before the Olympics start. Going to go a week earlier than them though and visit the Ogasawara Islands, even though I'm also going to Ishigaki with my friends. Something about tropical Japan has triggered an obsession in me. I love it all though, from the metropolis centers like Tokyo and Kyoto and Sendai to the sleepy little towns in the south pacific.

Does anyone here have any experience in the Bonin Islands? Advice or recommendations? It will be my first time going there.
