Whats a good, lengthy, more or less entry level VN (or series of VNs) I can sink my teeth into with the hep of OCR or a text hooker?

I just started reading but I figured having the help of one of those text hooker thingies could ease the pain until I get a better hold of the grammar and vocabulary, by the time Im done with that I should be on the right track, or at least I would like to think so.

I was thinking muv luv since I never played that but I dont know if maybe thats too advanced.

Flyable Heart is one of the go-to recs for beginners. Good story, good characters, limited vocabulary, and overall pretty simple sentence structures. Some parts of the common route can be a bit of a drag and I personally didn't like a couple of the character routes, but overall I enjoyed reading it quite a lot.

I don't know if it meets your criteria of being "lengthy". It's a pretty average length but an average length VN should last you quite a while as a beginner since you'll be reading so slowly.

MuvLuv, in any case, is probably not a good idea. There's going to be a lot of scifi mumbo-jumbo (get ready for a ton of infodumps about mechas) and a VN as long as that is going to take you absolutely ages as a beginner to finish. Also worth noting that the SoL story (Extra) you have to get through to make it to Unlimited and Alternative is pretty much universally agreed to be shit. To be honest, I didn't like MuvLuv much in general and think it's incredibly overrated so I'm a bit biased.

They go into the same directory that whatever file you're making the webm from is in by default, but I changed it to spit them out into a separate folder I made called "mpv".

If you open the script in a text editor, you should see this line somewhere near the beginning:
output_directory = [[]]
There's an explanation above it telling you how to change the setting to output files to wherever you want them to go.

There are also other options you can mess with here all with explanations as well (though I just left them alone for now).

you shouldnt skip the deep recognition phase though thats what helps the subconscious tell similar looking kanji apart and make less errors when reading. from time to time try picking out a few relatively complicated, perhaps similar looking kanji in words you know and mentally note or even draw a circle around which radicals it has for example 載る has 車 and 土 in it

So I installed Kanjitomo 4, and after setting that paths up I cant save stuff to a .txt

Both paths for the startup shortcut and the copy shortcut direct to the same folder in C:

but the startup works while the copy to text file doesn't, and I have no idea what I fucked up here.

For example a quick way to describe the property of nouns in Japanese is to say they behave like the word sheep, countable but morphologically invariable, if you know Japanese you can see how this can quickly be described to beginners, I never saw parallels in English, this is what I will be doing.

In my experience it's more healthy to reach the same vocabulary level of your native tongue if you do not want to fuck up and I often fuck up in Italian because I can read Ulysses in English but not Italian, I had to go back learning my native language. Fucking internet Jesus Christ.

Also, it's really healthy for language learning if your listening is nearly perfect, because then you can listen to a challenging audio book while reading the translation in your native language, using it as subtitles, that is the ideal approach to quickly learn languages.

I've gotten to the point where I can read and understand over 80% yotsubato consistantly. I also read through it pretty fast, rarely needing to stop on a bubble. Most of what I miss and check are about traditional customs or events and weird jokes involving specific japanese brands etc

and any improvement you can make by just watching raw will be extremely slow
watch raw, try to figure put things you don't understand, then check the jp subs and listen again
that's the fastest way too improve but it's not a lot of fun so i probably wouldn't watch everything this, just do how much you feel like

i don't really believe you. RTK seems overwhelmingly more popular. there's always a 3:1/4:1 ratio in favor of RTK advocacy in this thread and in other places. maybe you can argue that's a testament to KKLC because RTK is "the" book regardless of quality. but whatever fuck both.

i did rtk in a way that i also wrote the shit down, but i pretty much just blasted through the rest after reaching the half point.
because reading more is the way to go if you actually want to "remember the kanji." i only did rtk to help me recognize the differences

I recommend just doing core 2k and tae kim in parallel. Stop Tae Kim after a month at most, even if you havent gotten through, and start playing VNs, watching anime with nihongo subs, and reading 小説. You can always use tae kim as a reference if there's something you don't understand. The most important thing to learning japanese is to use the language (what a shocker).
