Why is it written as "Necrofantasia" when ZUN himself wrote on the Magical Astronomy booklet "Necrophantasia" in Western characters? https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Magical_Astronomy/Story

Because sometimes Japanese authors aren't that great at transcription/transliteration, so their idea how the names should be in romaji doesn't have to be right
and sometimes the translation teams have their heads up their asses because they know better what the author meant to say - you decide what's the case here

When the word is present in the dictionary and used in both modern and classical western material, like phantasia is, it's clearly not an issue of transcription or transliteration. Whoever translated it only knew about the Disney version.

I'd argue it's not a case of English Only translators, just a misunderstanding - a fantasia is a semi-improvised musical piece, so using the 'f' spelling would fit as a name of the theme; a phantasia as a philosophy term is "information based on sense experience" - though what that means exactly varies, it can mean 'something experienced', thus fitting the quote

>I used necrofantasia and necrophantasia seperately. I figure there’s a nuance. Necrofantasia is the original title, but the subtitle is necrophantasia, what Renko describes.
The alternate translation listed at the end of the page offers this very reasoning.
About ネクロファンタジア, ZUN used romaji in the AoCF remix and went for "Necro-Fantasia". Though I don't think that's "binding".

You're a dumb fucking gorilla nigger, you know that? The English """""titles""""" on the CDs aren't titles. They're subtitles. The same thing happens with Hecatia's theme. It's clearly spelt out "Pandemonic Planet" in it's original romaji yet DBOA renders it as "Pandemoniac Planet".
