>What are you playing?
I'm playing Venus Blood Lagoon and I wonder how could I miss such a great series for so long (I've been meaning to get into it for over a year). So far, it has almost everything. The art, music and gameplay are great, all heroines are very cute and romance with each of them has a steady progression, the SoL and comedy are very well written, the ero is hot and varied. The best thing about it though is the setting. I absolutely love 魔導科学 stuff and every game that has it wins at least 3 extra points in my book. The contrast between it and traditional high fantasy is also nice. 魔竜族 are completely pro-technology, build magic hovertrains, sprawling cities with factories and air purifiers and excavate ancient weapons, while 神竜族 are borderline luddites who live in the wooden huts, worship their God and are dead set on destroying all that technology.

It's not without faults, of course. I don't like how if you want to replace a unit with the same one, but with different affixes, you have to pay the full price in all resources. Some of the h-scenes like Vivre's painful whipping scene or Piasa's futa urethra insertion and orgasm denial scene are a bit too brutal for my liking. The "western" writing gets tiring quickly: sometimes I want to be called by some other title other than my name like onii-chan or something, Zahak, Zahak, Zahak all the time gets boring. And the story itself is also pretty generic so far, but I'll let it pass since nobody plays those kinds of games for the story, right?

But yeah, it's great. If Rance is the gold standard of fantasy haremge, then Lagoon is the platinum nugget.

And personally, I believe that the more flaws you are able to meticulously find, the more you are allowed to call yourself a fan of that game. This is what separates fans from fanboys. Fans accept flaws and wish they would be fixed with patches or in company's future games. Fanboys only blindly eat everything up and declare it flawless kamige.

Finished reading Cross†Channel. Great game, maybe it will help me become a more complete human being (who are we kidding heh). The ending song was lovely. Every single character was memorable in their own way, and they felt realistic with their bickering and problems. This might be the most didactic VN that I've read so far. I wonder if anyone had the same impression.

I have to say that some of the CGs were simply awful though. How you can manage to draw a character in a CG that looks worse than their normal sprite is beyond me. The sprites are all great though. Also, the game featured some of the most unappealing HCGs that I have seen in my life.

While the game felt long with all the repetitions, in the end it feels like this also worked to the advantage of the message. Just like Miki gained something even though she suffered an injury at the beach, one can't help but feel such an effect from this game too. Ironically all the time spent reading is time that was not spent "connecting" with other people.

Thankfully I still have the extra stories ahead of me, so I don't have to say goodbye to the characters yet.

Cross Concerto is probably going to be bad because it was artificially padded due to kickstarter goals (more money = bigger script size, they reached the highest milestone which was 3mb+ I think). The writer has shown that he can't do long games, so I'd be really surprised if it turned out decent.

The unbiased reality is that vndb is much better than EGS when it comes to finding something that you want to play. The filter system here is amazing and EGS search by POV can't compete at all. When it comes to getting an actual information about something, it becomes completely unreliable garbage (because of aforementioned EOPs) and EGS or random blog reviews, as well as official game sites and wikis become much better. I think we've discussed this several threads ago. First find something you want on vndb, then switch to EGS.

>Silky Plus sure has fallen. Or returned to their roots, making nukige?
Don't judge it based on the character design, from the trial it has an early h-scene but I wouldn't say it's a nukige, it takes until the end of the trial before another one shows up and you can choose to have sex or not so it might be relevant to the plot later.
I thought the trial was nice, it has some point and click sections and the mystery is interesting enough, though being such a cheap game I wonder if they'll actually solve the mystery within it, maybe its supposed to be episodic.

This may be a ton of work, but rather than just the VNDB summary, a short, personalized recommendation by the person recommending the eroge would be more interesting to read on a recommendation chart. Maybe include a couple sentences on what it's about with most of it being why you think it's good.

Those are always more interesting to read than the generic summaries taken from other sites. Skimming it, I noticed a couple had these but most didn't.

I think in general eroge really missed out on the whole 小説家になろう type isekai craze. Bet they didn't think it would blow up to this extent.

Then there's another factor that devs don't want to take risks maybe? This is a stale medium after all where everyone knows what works and what should sell.
Leaving Fluorite aside who's works got decent reviews and mostly positive feedback there's of course stuff like Utaware and how successful it turned out to be and even they went full gacha not daring to make anything more in the end when they could.

there's also again the risk factor in the sense that with LN business, publishers mostly target stories with high points on narou. Unless of course the author has connections but anyhow when publishers are sure that work has a certain fanbase already established, only then would they publish/adapt it into an LN. Even with the content being same as the WN for example it would still guarantee sales as the fans would buy them even as sort of a donation towards the author, a tip or maybe for illustrations or as an encouragement for them to write more.
Then if it plummets in popularity publishers could always stop and axe, not like they're losing anything. Maybe that's the reason we have so many episodic VNs right now as that model is more attractive.

>> No.22007191

>>22007123
It's strange because the power fantasy harem isekai just seems like a perfect fit for eroge. Maybe devs just can't think of ways to implement multiple route storytelling into high fantasy settings. The ideal way of doing it would just be to make a kinetic novel where the MC fucks every girl in one route but eroge devs aren't known for deviating from established practices.

Is this from an actual eroge? I guess not, judging by how the protag has a face so as to not disturb the more casual eroge readers.

You have actually well written fantasy in eroge, like the Kyonyuu or Eden's Ritter series from Waffle (btw eden's ritter gets a soshage soon, rip). Though it usually takes the form of JRPG.

There was that もっと!孕ませ! nukige that goes the extra mile provides *only* the h-scenes for what would be part of a prototype Narou fantasy+academy setting.

>where the MC fucks every girl in one route
do you read nocturne? basically 18+narou? there are countless ways to have h-scenes going and simultaneously develop every single girl without relying on multiple route storytelling, even when it comes to non nukige.
what eroge devs actually frantically try to avoid are hilariously harems in non nukige. I've heard countless argument here on /jp/ about how it breaks people's realism and their values or whatever, that autism is not exclusive to this place and it's still funny when polygamy is pretty much the norm for shousetsuka stories right now. then suddenly sorceress alive comes out which is basically an antithesis of those polygamy templates popular on narou YET the autists on EGS kept calling it narou this narou that.

The VN gets better and better as get to the Alive route. It raises your expectations for what the final ending will be and at towards the end you can choose one of the heroines to end up with. After you select all the choices and complete the heroines ending you reveal the 美由紀のことを考えて過ごしたい choice. Unless you are a complete masochist, do not and I repeat DO NOT choose this ending. Canonically it is the TRUE END of the VN but I have never seen a disappointment of an ending from a TRUE END before. It raises all you expectations only to take everything away and give you nothing at all. And to make matters work once you complete the ending you might think there might be more dialogue after the credits right? But no there is none. To make things worse these even change the background colors to a lighter theme and changed the menu music a very uplifting piano piece as if to rub salt into the wounds of your betrayed expectations. If you are enjoying this VN and want to leave this game on a happy note then DO NOT SELECT THE 美由紀のことを考えて過ごしたい CHOICE or you will end up like me, feeling tilted off the face of the earth with disbelief at how the writers could have C***blocked you so hard.

tldr: DO NOT PICK 美由紀のことを考えて過ごしたい if you want to leave this game on a happy note.

>>22009946
But that's what I'm saying. There are plenty of VNs that include character routes despite only one heroine really being tied to the main story, more vns should just be harems where there is main story and every girl is a part of it. It just suppresses me that that was never really tried despite it being so popular in LNs

>> No.22009970

>>22009955
>more vns should just be harems where there is main story and every girl is a part of it
That's too hard. Character routes means you can ignore characters who aren't the heroine, and that makes things easier. It also means you can have multiple writers, which makes things easier. So harems with a main story are more effort, and so people only do them in nukige where it's actually easier to use them.

It's popular in LNs but LNs also take less effort, resources and have less risk than a VN. I don't disagree that there should be more of them but I can see some reasons why it isn't particularly common.

As a beginner, Taichi's monologues slow me down the most, cuz all the freaking vocabulary employed. I added 2000~ cards to anki from the game alone, and I already have 5000~ already.

But yeah the concept is kinda unique, with the repeating week, and building up a whole relationship with a character only for it to reset at the end and having them hate you again ( 冬子 :,( ), although MC's clearly at fault when it comes to this.

It's not perfect but a great experience overall.

Getting over your lost love and settling for another girl is one thing.
Getting a harem is another.

Also, you're talking about the lunatic who had to get a suicide watch-type treatment in the form of brain fuckery that made him think his GF is alive. The guy also went against his promise and principles to become a soldier for her sake, had a supposed 10/10 accompany him all the way through, never once thought of giving up and settling down with her, and ultimately had to have his memory fried for the others to even stand a chance.

Despite having a harem, Kou's not a harem protag. Dive 1/2 is basically a glorified Sora/Kuu route with some extreme meandering. I can see the dissonance, too, but a harem ending clearly wouldn't have made "perfect sense" without some major changes to the characters and story.
