If you think about it, Youkai lead a pretty hard life.
Most humans are able to kill >5 of them before going down, and they don't seem to work in teams all that much. So they're best bet at food would either be each other or crowding onto an overpopulated mountain in accompany with other species acting as their ruling class.
The question is: Is the ability to fly and having control over some element of nature really balance that out?

According to some Chinese and Japanese legends (some of them are even shared by both cultures) and myths about monsters and other supernatural beings, the said creatures (or objects) become Youkai by living for over a thousand years and bathing in the moonlight during that time. Basically anything can become a Youkai even a piano or a screwdriver.

I always wondered about something.
Powerful Youkai like Remilia, Yuyuko, and Yukari all fall under some normal type of Non-human category, but usually have an extremely hax innate ability. Furthermore it doesn't seem like the ability needed time to increase in power.

However their abilities are far from natural and could be considered something akin to divine or extremely supernatural.

Do you think Powerful Youkai are Youkai born with a hax power, or rather the ability itself manifests in the form of a Youkai with a personality that could be generated through life experiences?
