DA only has a handful of decent anime artists, none of which compare to Pixiv aside from the ones who are also on Pixiv. Since Pixiv is almost exclusively anime there's no reason to compare the two outside of that. I can't remember the last time I browsed DA just to look at art though.

On the one hand, deviantART has real, professional artists and other industry types uploading their portfolios to it, which is pretty neat. But horribly drawn fetish art still gets more views.

On the other hand, I really like the system of tags that pixiv has (dA technically has them too, but you can only search them, not jump between them), and I really like its minimalist design compared to dA's fancy Flash and advertising bloat. Also, unlike dA, pixiv allows blatantly pornographic content. But I can't read their crazy moon runes, so tags are of limited use.

dA for badass professional art, pixiv for smut.

Pixiv is already easily accessible for everyone who can't speak Japanese.
The only thing that's left that I'd like to be able to read are the artists' comments, but why would they write in English when they speak Japanese, and rikaichan is enough to go through the text.
