>> No.21915705

It's build dependent. A large party has an easier time on lower stats, a solo attempt absolutely require maxed out speed just to ensure Estork doesn't pull a Frisia on you. Gear should be maxed out regardless, preferably with ice resist as high as possible. You're best off clearing all of Act 2 before you do Estork just to be on the safe side, given that Act 2 itself isn't "long", and unlocking Act 3 will increase the AP speed threshold.

If you can beat the normal servant gods, like sophia, then you should also be good to go, but enthumesis is technically higher level.

Warmage is infinitely better. Wizard's perk is absolutely laughable. Early game you won't be able to cast more than a couple spells before running out of MP. 10% reduction in cost isn't going to change anything. Late game you won't give a flying fuck about MP due to fuckhueg pool and regen. Flat +5% to cast chance is pretty good as it can nullify or at least reduce penalties incurred from equipment.
>and what race?
Personally, I'd go with Elea. Initial stats and potentials are irrelevant an hour into the game except for health and mana and those will follow soon after, so what you're actually interested in are racial feats. All resistances can be eventually acquired with enough corpses and equipment, so those races are out. The only actually unique perks are:
-Get hungry more slowly, which is actually a negative thing to have,
-Find more materials from digging spots, which isn't all that useful,
-Dim immunity, which rarely comes into play,
-One extra skill point per level, which is pretty meh since it's much faster to just use skills to upgrade them,
-Resistance to ether corruption, which can come in handy if you're planning on using ether equipment.
Then there's mutants, but they're not exactly noob-friendly unless you savescum. Fairies start out with a ton of resistances but they can't equip things heavier than 1s, so they're also ill-advised for new players. Also snails. Don't pick snail.
Do note that outside of mutants and fairies, no racial feat impacts the game that much.

Use tag organization to pair up with a pet while you're building AP and you'll be awarded for their kills. It makes the animations really choppy though, so I'd only use it when you're in a good position to build up a lot in a hurry. Enemies typically go after whoever last landed a hit on them, so you should get mobbed less than you would as a regular character. Equip a living weapon packed full of resistances, stat boosts, and skill boosts and a shield. Your stats will be just fine as long as you keep eating herbs.

In vanilla class doesn't matter a whole lot. In omake I don't think either class is very good. In plus warmage is one of the best classes for casters and fighters alike and wizard is nothing special. Definitely pick memorization as your starting skill as that is important for magic users, relatively difficult to obtain, and warmages don't start with it.

As far as races go, here's a few recommendations:
Yerles is a good all rounder with above average HP in exchange for below average MP (not a big deal even for a pure wizard. They get a few extra skill points on level up, which is nice.

Juere is a good beginner/quality of life choice that doesn't starve to death as quickly and gathers more materials. In plus you get more materials than you could ever want, but in other versions you have to work for them.

Mutants are an RNG race that could be amazing or terrible in vanilla and omake. In plus they're probably the strongest race because you can control exactly what body parts you get. Difficult early game.

Golems are another good min maxing choice, but maybe not for a wizard since they have bad hp. Their main advantage is redundant in plus so I don't recommend them there.

Liches have below average HP but excellent MP. They also start with a good selection of elemental resistances. They're superb in plus where you can fix their HP and use their excess MP to make a defensive barrier.

Fairies have strong upsides and downsides. Overall I think they're pretty bad but some people like them. Their main advantage is their speed, which is valuable in vanilla and omake. In plus everyone winds up with the same speed so they're pretty bad there.

Elea are only good if you can't stay out of the etherwind. All you have to do is keep a common, easily-affordable return scroll on hand and their ability is basically meaningless.

Whoops, they actually only get one more skill point for each level up. It's not much in vanilla or omake where you can finish the game at level 20, but in plus where you can easily reach 200 before the end, it's nice to have.

Magic resist is one of the most useful attributes an item can have. Though its better on armor than a weapon. I'd recommend just jumping in to custom. Your save should be fully backwards compatible if for some reason you don't like it. As far as I know all of its changes are optional, if you download it and don't mess with its options, it'll just be Plus with a better and more complete english translation. Custom G you might want to look into first since last I heard it wasn't fully backwards compatible, though I consider its changes to be a clear improvement.

I'm gonna drop my usual newbie tips on you:

I recommend hypnotism, exorcist, and dimensional move for a new character's first three feats. Hypnotism is far less valuable for a caster so you can feel free to skip it, and as a magic-focused character you should be able to get a reliable teleport spell before too long so you may want to skip dimensional move as well. Exorcist is a must-have that prevents your items from being cursed in your sleep, and resists curses from enemies. Good feats in general include strings assassin, knowledge of magical plants, knockout, and zin-ba/independent. Short, medium, and long distance runner are good if you use a lot of special actions. Like, say, if you want to perform at parties. Stat boost feats are almost universally worthless.

Platinum coins are the most important resource to a new character because they can buy you new skills. You get them from doing random quests in town. Escort quests are worth great money early on but watch the time limit. Farming quests in Yowyn are very safe and there's no real penalty for failure.

Living weapons are overwhelmingly superior to almost everything else. Even as a magic user you should keep an eye out for a living melee and a living ranged weapon to equip so you can pump them full of useful stat bonuses.

Try to keep your equipment's combined weight below 15s as going heavier than that will penalize your spellcasting success. Early on you'll probably need to go higher than that to get a decent PV, and PV is probably the single most important stat to a new character. Since you aren't using melee attacks, the extra PV from a shield would be welcome. A shield will penalize your casting success rate by 5% but the warmage passive cancels that out. The two easiest ways to get a good PV early on are to upgrade your items at a blacksmith and to use scrolls of change material to make your armor into stronger materials. You should do both. Once you have money you can pay blacksmiths or buy flying scrolls to lighten your equipment and end up as a light armor user despite wearing adamantium plate mail.

If you wear seven league boots you'll be much faster on the world map. Lots of people wish for seven league boots as their first wish. As an alternative, there's a quest you can do around character level 10 that rewards you with the Dal-i-Thalion which offer a similar boost.

You probably already figured this out, but just in case: you can assign spells and items to numeric hotkeys and should do so.

>> No.21935530

>>21935496
Thanks! Where would I even begin to look for a living weapon? Are they just random spawns like artifacts?
Additionally, what would your recommended SECOND wish be, since I got another one fairly quickly

Check every <Miracle> and {Godly} quality weapon. Adventurers, wandering vendors, and highly invested black market vendors are promising leads. With crafting skills you can make your own miracle quality items which should get you a living weapon in short order.

When in doubt, a good wish is secret experience of kumiromi. That'll give you an extra feat. You can only use one SEoK for every ten experience levels, but you level fast in plus and it's unlikely to ever be a problem.

A few more tips:

Hold on to any potions of water you find. Drop potions of water on the altar of a god you worship to make holy water. Mix holy water with another item (push B) to bless that item. Blessed equipment is slightly stronger than normal equipment. Some items, like potions of potential, are far more powerful when blessed. If you have a stack of several copies of one item type, a potion of holy water can bless the entire stack at once.

Both your stats and skills have potential which cause those stats and skills to rise faster or slower. Potential drops every time a stat or skill increases. Early on you shouldn't worry about it much, potions of potential are expensive and platinum should mostly be used to learn new skills rather than to improve existing ones. Whenever you do get a potion of potential, make sure to bless it before drinking.

An herb farm is by far the best way to raise your stats. The earliest reliable source of herb seeds is a cute fairy, which joins your party if you earn enough favor with kumiromi of harvest. I think most people wait until act 2 to start a farm because then they can use the statue of kumiromi. Use the statue on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 13th, 16th, 19th, 23rd, 26th, 29th, or 30th day of a month to get an herb seed. Basically you want one of the digits to be a multiple of 3. Duplicate your statue of kumiromi with the little sister quest. Ranches, museums, and shops are all nice but optional. A farm is mandatory.

Before you ever fight a big daddy, pick up some little balls at the cyber dome. After a big daddy dies a little sister will appear. Do NOT attack the little sister and do not allow her to be killed. Throw a little ball at her to recruit her to your team. Turn her in to the strange scientist at the cyber dome and she will reward you by duplicating unique items. I recommend duplicating statues of kumiromi, kumiromi's god stone of rejuvenation, and magic fruit. Maybe happy apples - they're by far the best way to raise luck, but luck is the least important stat.

Make sure to always pick up and identify the items you get from quests. Some valuable items can be permanently lost if you forget to collect them.

If you ever have a dream that says "you feel lucky today," that gives you a gigantic temporary bonus of +777 to luck. Go to palmia, port kapul, or derphy and play blackjack. Bet one chip at a time unless you have a ton of them. Try to get a long winning streak, usually around 4 wins gets you a potion of cure corruption and around 10 gets you a potion of potential. Getting caught cheating forfeits all rewards you've earned so far, so don't take any risks.

Oh, good point! Yeah. I only ever play fighters with a bit of support magic so I forgot all about those. A living weapon in the early game is still not a bad idea to cover your resistances, and a living laser pistol will make a good stat stick for the entire game. Once a wizard has decent resistances on their armor alone they should absolutely use a spellpower-boosting staff. The perfect spell-boosting item would be a blank godly item artifact-fusioned full of spellpower, but given the difficulty of finding an appropriate item and huge cost in scrolls of gain attribute, it might be better to stick with the vice staff.

If nothing else, a living laser pistol is easier to get kills with and thus raise than other living weapons. Any firearm type can be modified into a laser so there's no need to keep looking if you find a nice living shotgun.

You don't need to find great resists, except for magic resist. The other important ones can be made.
I've actually just finished making a standard pet gear list for myself, not sure if it'll help you:

Standard gear load-out:
+500 magic resist (1# = 25 (enchant/2) so 20# total or 1000 enchant)
+200 fire/ice (just use dragon scale 50 each, 4x = +200) armor cloak = +50 fire, coat/girdle +50 ice = 3? gear total
+200 sound (aurora ring = +50, leather = +25, 2x leather aurora = +150, +2x leather) = 7 gear total
+200 mind (deco amulet = +50, Silk = +25, silk deco = +75, + 5x silk ) = 13 total
sleep resist
fear resist (breastplate)
confusion resist
poison resist
paralysis resist
blindness resist

Convert gear into best in category.
+10 using a blacksmith.
Get fireproof/acid proof (you might get these from just changing their material, so save this step for after that.)

You gain +1 pv for each 5s weight, or +40 pv at 200s. So always round your gear to the nearest multiple of 5.

Specialize as needed.

Adamantium plate mail is by far the best PV you can get out of a single item. Use equip making to produce plate mail until you get enough decent suits for your entire party. Buy the cheapest material kits you can find at larna and then have the dwarf smith convert them to adamantium. Use them to convert your armor. Finally, buy craft repair kits from Moyer and use them on your plate mail. That on its own will give your party reasonably good PV. If the shopkeepers aren't selling the items you need then you probably need to invest them more.

Standarts can cover a lot of resistances pretty easily, and a many standarts are good choices for final equipment pieces. You should be able to get yourself and one or two pets acceptable resistance sets with standarts alone. If your resistance situation is really dire it may well be worth equipping someone with the war suit instead of adamantium plate armor.

For your other slots, just keep an eye out for anything with good resists (or make them yourself with equip making) and then do equip update -> adamantium kit -> craft repair kit again. A few item types may be better off as rubynus or griffin scale, and if your resistance situation is seriously bad you can always convert to a material with good resistances like dragon scale. At the bare minimum, converting your rings and amulets into zylon, platinum, etc. is an easy way to squeeze a few extra resists into your equipment.

Artifact fusion is the strongest source of resistances in the game but you need scrolls of gain attribute for that. I recommend using your wishes on those. Also remember what color scrolls of gain attribute are and always check scrolls of that color in nefia. They should be more common as you go into higher level dungeons, but they'll always be a bit rare.

I wonder if anyone here knows the spawning system well enough to say which nefia depths are best for finding SoGA?

My personal experience says that you get more potions of potential and flying scroll and such at higher ranks than that, but personal experience isn't the best thing to rely on for stuff like this. Maxing out the number of pages of items doesn't necessarily mean item quality has maxed out, however.

Another thing you may want to consider is equipping your pets with shields. I know no one wants to equip shields on their player character because you lose half of your damage in exchange for a modest defense boost, but pets are very bad at playing defensively. If they're dead they lose 100% of their damage output. The sealed shield or an adamantium craft-repaired kite shield can go a long way towards fixing a bad PV score.

>> No.21946769

>which nefia depths are best for finding SoGA?
You can get them at any level, but it's considerably rarer at dungeon floors 14 and below. The reasons for this is a pain in the ass to explain, but I can try if you insist.
Going deeper than 15 will help a little by virtue of making other scrolls less likely to appear.

You're missing the bigger picture. Take a look at potion of hero, for example.

dbtmp = 0
break
}
loop
if ( dbtmp == 0 ) {
goto *db_item_SPELLBOOK_HERO

}
dbsum += 1000000 / (1000 + abs(objlv - 1) * 100) + 1
dblist(0, dbmax) = ITEM_ID_POTION_HERO, dbsum
dbmax++

No 0 multiplier here, which means dbsum will get smaller and smaller as objlv(shop rank) increases. dbsum is used right at the end to determine what gets chosen. Higher dbsum means more chance.
So, higher shop rank means lower weighting of potion of hero while keeping weighting on potion of potential the same, thus making potion of potential more likely.

>> No.21947016

>>21946876
Hmm, that does make common items less likely to be chosen instead, and lowers the threshold to choose potential. But, it still hits a wall when you've gotten far enough for common items to not show up much at all.

With a base of divider of 1k, and a lever multiplier of 100, every 10 ranks/levels lowers the chance for common items to spawn instead by +1, so by rank 100 common items are already providing only 1/10 the dbsum they normally would. You'll have very diminishing returns past this, and by 9,991 rank/level, you'll cap out with 1,000,000/1,000,100 < 1. Things with lower base dbsums will cap out even sooner.

But, it does make a case for getting shops to rank 10k, if you've the money to burn.

According to that formula, by shop rank 91, potential potions and good loot should already be more common than hero potions and garbage. So, garbage will only account for half or less of the db as before. By 182 it'll be half that, but in practice this would mean non garbage items would roll 75+% of the time.

So, basically, once you stop seeing potions of major cure, minor cure, and hero more than once a blue moon, then you've effectively soft-capped.

This is the team I somehow cleared act 2 with (picked up Karata and The Foxbrother after act 1), with my character being a no spell sword and magic device/alchemy guy.
Should I focus on finding better equipment by investing in Moyer and the black markets, grinding big daddies for more Kumi statues (I have 2 at the moment and just started eating herbed in curarias myself), farming star dust from party times to make my own equipment on lucky days? Off the top of my head, the War Suit is probably the most standout fixedart. You could get one for each of your pets if you're willing to do even more Big Daddy grinding (and you're careful to put the old one on a Dojo'd pet before getting each new copy so it doesn't get stardust'd).

Moyer and black markets are far less reliable sources of items than making your own stuff out of stardust is. Moyer is still definitely worth investing up so you have a reliable source of lockpicks and craft repair kits, though. A few of your party members still have basic low level items and it doesn't look like you've got many living weapons so that's a high priority. Using a single stardust to make a set of feathers will yield three items with likely higher stats than three of your allies' back slot items. Miracle quality items have higher stats than non-artifacts and that will help even if you don't get good enchantments. Miracle plate mail would also be a big improvement on that rubynus chain mail. Making items on lucky days is nice if you have the luxury, but you really aren't losing much if you just do it whenever. Especially if you're making living weapons, since the difference between godly living weapons and miracle living weapons is usually pretty small.

Another statue of kumiromi would also definitely be a good move. You might already know this, but if you herb in a cooked item of rank 5 quality or higher, you can share it with a pet and you'll both get the full nutrition (ie stat boosts) from the item. Bakers in most towns sell sandwiches which are good enough, and they sell flour which you can cook into even better items. If you have a ranch you can also cook eggs. Eggs and flour are especially good because they don't rot.

You could also go unlock artifact fusion. If you've got scrolls of gain attribute lying around that will give you a ton of flexibility with your equipment. You can also use jewel cores of nefia, you'll want to clear awakened nefia to farm those. They're pretty rare if the dungeon isn't at least level 100 though.

>>21948526
>And which, if any, statics should I keep?
Most of the non-weapon standarts are worth using and many are endgame-worthy. The only standart weapons that are worth considering long-term are spellpower-boosting staves, the blood rod, diablo, rankis, and maybe the solar cane. Even those are pretty situational.

Usamimi, sealed shield, asteroid belt, sonic broom, pants of ogre, argent snow, mighty arms, and cestus of meteors are all quality items that shouldn't be too far out of your reach.

>> No.21953677

I've been looking through the equations here: https://pastebin.com/NeG47CyV and doing some testing of my own in wizard mode, and I think that under ideal conditions, dual wielding should be able to outdamage two handing in Plus.

The biggest problem is weapon weight. Plus increases your chance to crit with light weapons and increases critical damage with heavy weapons, but it's poorly balanced. Light weapons get a tiny boost to crit rate but their crits are hardly better than regular attacks, whereas 180s weapons deal monstrous crits and can still crit fairly reliably with a good perception score. A maxed out dual wielding character should deal just over half the damage of a maxed out two hand character while hitting twice as many times, but that's assuming the weapons are the same weight. Two hand has amazing accuracy by default, while dual wield has bad accuracy that gets worse as weapon weight increases. Spellcasting success is also a concern. A two hand character can do pretty well by wielding a ~30s weapon with <5s armor and get crits that do about 182% damage and, with the warmage class, still maintain a healthy 97% casting success rate. A dual wielding character with two 15s weapons will suffer terrible accuracy penalties and their crits will only do about 158%. A 4s weapon does about 130% and a 2s weapon about 121%. This is also a big part of why late game martial arts is dominant - your MA skill is used in place of weapon weight so you can get the full 300% damage crits without making any sacrifices. Bear in mind that your weapon's effective weight is reduced by half of the enemy's armor weight, so against heavily-armored enemies these numbers will be lower.

The one big advantage dual wielding has over two handing is that you get twice as many chances to fire off invokes. If you're lucky enough to get two godly or living lightsabers with the time stop invoke, that should be able to compete with or surpass a good 2H build even with the accuracy penalties. The piercing changes in upcoming versions may enable rankis + diablo dual wielding builds, though using two different weapon types will mean taking accuracy penalties on what is already the least accurate fighting style.

Might end up using the business card and doing what you said anyway, but it almost feels like cheating at this point.

Crystal spear and then magic ball are the next in line for magic element damage scaling. You can just use them, especially magic ball. But, learning elemental magic will scale better eventually.

Assuming you're playing plus, at some point you should collect the three combines enchants:

Fire and cold (from rings and cloaks)
Poison and nerve (from gloves and boots)
Sound and mind (from helms and shields, and later the artifact fusion)

These cause spells of one element to do extra damage of the other element. It caps at 1.5x bonus damage, so if you have 100 fire you'll get 150 cold damage too. This scales with buffs/debuffs/resists.

Cold and fire will be the strongest elements of these, but wet status weakens fire, and oil status weakens cold.

The others are good for status effects.

How many quests have you done? Have you gotten stuck against any quest bosses yet?

There are plenty of precious weapons and armour that will do until you find something amazing to replace them. Take a look at the wiki and find some you like the look of, and can reasonably obtain.
Otherwise, black markets, Moyer, adventurers, treasure balls, and treasure maps. Also teach your pet tailoring and carpentry so they make you stuff when you wake up in the morning. Later on when you have the materials to supply it, you can craft miracle and godly items.

On my first character, I used an Astral Light Pen on Fron, which I'm pretty sure is the most overpowered pet that can be gotten without incurring the god recruiting penalty. However, I remember putting her away because she trivialized everything and I figured she'd never, ever be able to gain a single point of AP because her stats were so crazy, and I was worried that once we finally reached a level where monsters could actually challenge us, her low life stat would screw her over. I wonder if I tried hard enough I could have eventually reached a point where she could gain AP, or if her inherent speed made that impossible.

>> No.21958978

>>21958832

She can gain AP, it'll just require high level void/awakened dungeons. She'd probably be able to get mid 60k ap total before capping. It'll also be slow, since you'd need more than 2k base speed for the full ap bonus gains.

>ron's spawning conditions are erratic enough to deserve note. First, the player must have progressed to Lost Irva and completed the first few quests of Chapter 3. Then, whenever a new day begins, there is a random roll to decide whether Fron can spawn on that day, with a 1 in 10 chance of being true. On days when Fron can spawn, there is a 1 in 100 chance of her spawning when entering any town. She appears to always spawn close to the player.

that seems awfully complex,do you just re-enter towns on each day until it eventually happens or be lucky?

>(and you're careful to put the old one on a Dojo'd pet before getting each new copy so it doesn't get stardust'd)
Just to note, there is a downside to that in Custom.
Putting any pet in the Dojo or a Discarded ranch completely resets its Custom AI learned skills (They're saved to the slot I think, not the NPC).
So you have to completely reteach any of those after getting them back.
So that's a little extra grind to get stuff like continuous attacks or distant attack back.

Vanilla, 1.22 and back, is Vanilla. Nothing else.
