Why is /jp/ so shitty?

>> No.2186809

Because people respond to posts like this instead of reporting them and moving on.

it was built into the board

The higher your power level, the more you enjoy /jp/.

I'm still finding many threads of interest to post in. The threads are mostly about non-touhou stuff as well.

Forced optimism, I suppose.
It's better than the forced pessimism on /a/ at least. Though that is mostly accurate.

>> No.2186867

Honestly, I've often pondered that question myself. And I think it's simply because of the community.

Compared to other boards, /jp/'s userbase is pretty pathetic in many ways. Our hobbies don't involve any actual level of real-world socialization with other people, unlike /tg/ and /co/, which IMO has some of the best online communities on 4chan. Unlike comics or boardgaming, stuff like Touhou, VNs and obsessing over idols isn't something you can really bring out to the real world and share with other people.

That inability to socialize a hobby manifests itself even further in /jp/, and combined with no mod involvement at all in the community, it's lead to the shithole we have today. I'm sure /jp/ could've been more salvageable if we had an active mod presence that actually gave a fuck about this place. I've seen mods involve themselves in other boards, and the shit that goes on around here regularly like the shitposting and more importantly the sagefagging would never be tolerated there. It's a waste really, /jp/ could've been a great place...

>> No.2186874

>>2186867
Well, to be fair, pretty much all of the /jp/ mod involvement were handled poorly. It's better to leave them alone.

>> No.2186878

>>2186844

Well, I've seen boards turn bad, and I feel that /jp/ is nowhere near that level yet.

Also, we need a much faster posting rate in order to truly ruin this board. So I guess we got another year or so left in /jp/.

>>2186867

Do you even know why we sage? We sage and report OFFTOPIC thread. Like this thread that you just posted on so that the thread can die and people ignore it before it get deleted.

/jp/ would be far more tolerable if the users actually began to get a sense of self-restraint when it comes to posting, and some sense of self-moderation.

>> No.2186883

>>2186867
Is it really that bad? Sure, we don't make any original content, but I find I can at least have half-decent conversations here. The occasional visit to /a/ remind me of how bad it could be.
Funny you mention /co/ and /tg/ though. They're the two boards I visit the most after /jp/. I'd post there more, but I can't really relate to their hobbies.

Calm down, bro. Wouldn't be /jp/ without at least one metathread on the front page.

Why should this be so? These are just some other entertainments that you can talk about with other people with similar interests as well. Is it because of the concept of hiding ones powerlevel, thanks to the societal pressures that talking about this kind of hobby will automatically brand you as a creepy pedophile? Or is it because of all the retarded weaboo's out there that tarnish the legitimacy of liking this stuff?

>> No.2186918

But people on /jp/ are creepy pedophiles.

>I find I can at least have half-decent conversations here.
The variety is too much.

Back in /a/, when you posted in a a topic about a mango, it's generally accepted that most of the people there will enjoy some similar aspect of that mango, or at the very least, acknowledge and understand that specific appeal.

Touhou is entirely different. I myself don't play the games a whole lot, really enjoy the official things like CoLA, PMiSS, or the in-game dialogue, prefer more serious doujinshi, and not really into all the jokes or porn and stuff. I prefer my relationship for the characters to be something closer to platonic love. Now, this wouldn't be a problem. Different tastes are normal. But when a broad Touhou topic is made, you attract every single person that likes Touhou, regardless of their tastes, into a single thread. Shitstorm ensues, and the majority always wins out. Again, the majority winning wouldn't be a problem, but they often flood into the topics of the minority and turn it into completely different direction. It's not that enjoyable when you can't discuss your own interests with people that share the exact same interest as you because their interests are different from yours.

Also, you guys need to be less hostile when it comes to openly discussing individual ideas about the Touhouverse and how these ideas may overlap with things established in canon.

>> No.2186941

>>2186923
Touhou does have that problem here. You should try posting at times when there are fewer stupid Touhou threads active. Like now, for example.
And hostility is a part-and-parcel of /jp/. Just look at every Type-Moon thread ever. You just have to learn to laugh at it.
But speaking of Touhou in particular, people are usually more lenient when it comes to radical opinions. You could always post BlackTewi.jpg to shut everyone up.

I do. In fact, I'm the one that edited the panel with Tewi's ass out because that's what the topic always ended up degenerating into when I posted the original.

There were a few good, enjoyable topics over the past few weeks though. One in particular, that one topic where people were sharing doujin ideas. I didn't post anything, but they were enjoyable to read, and people were actually fairly reasonable.
