叫ぶ（さけぶ）. the on'yomi can fuck you up a bit because you can't use the one from 糾 (as in 糾弾 きゅうだん), but きょう is close enough that it still makes sense.
喚く（わめく）. on'yomi same as in 喚起 etc, also just predictable e.g. 変換
Basically "hell screaming". 阿鼻 is a phonetic transliteration from "Avici"; you can tell because both characters are used meaninglessly and 阿 is the preferred one for starting "a"-initial Buddhist borrowings.

i don't really see why you'd see 阿鼻 before you'd see 阿鼻叫喚 considering 阿鼻 is buddhist vocab so you'd have to read something specific to buddhism to see it but 阿鼻叫喚 is a pretty common 4ji that people will use in contexts like 阿鼻叫喚の状態

right now I've been doing anki, grammar study, and parsing a little bit of manga every day, and it seems to be working well but I've been having trouble remembering all the vocab with anki and especially the pronunciations; should I be studying anki terms outsite of using anki to study already? this is how it was when i first started. you must build some listening skill before you can watch with english subs and catch most or all of the japanese without pausing or rewinding. an alternative to what you're doing now is just watching episodes straight through no pauses. and then choose your favorite episode you've watched all day to rip the audio so you can listen to only the japanese later that day or the next day. if you've already watched it you can just focus on hearing as much of the japanese as you can. and your listening will get much better that way

In general, translation projects seem to be a miserable place to be at. From what I've seen observing others, there's always someone among the translators with too much authority and belligerence that he uses to sanctify his questionable translations. That is not to say mine would always be good, but it'd be enough cause to spoil my mood. 1. someone who frequently consumes Japanese is much more accustomed to kanji and has the ability to instantly read them upon seeing them because that's just 当たり前 and what he does every day not so for the guy who only uses anki he will struggle at least for a few seconds with everything, one part of the competitive quiz is the speed you type the answer with so he'd fail
2. 10k words aren't actually a lot, people who consume a lot of Japanese have a much higher vocabulary than what they have added to Anki so in this way they could answer a ton more questions as opposed to someone with a half assed grasp of 10k words
this legendary anki drone that has learned thousands of kanji perfectly but never consumed Japanese is just a dream in your head
btw I can tell you I have not memorized a single word from the quiz, all my cards are anime cards made from context with audio recorded and I pretty much never remember stuff I fail in the quiz so that's out

i think you're overestimating how much you need to read most fiction, i'm checking the n1 word list and indeed most of the stuff there are trivial, maybe some of the business talk shit you wouldn't find reading much unless you did core like 赤字 and stuff but there's still some stuff that's more or less rare there like 齎す, i've actually never even seen that word in kanji myself and you get 600k results from looking it up like that as opposed to some 105 million results if you search もたらす

I've translated a bit, like texts for a couple of people and some manga and I really despise it so I don't want to do it
basically English and Japanese are too different so you need to practically write your own prose and there is a lot of liberties you might want to take that some people would call you a bad translator for and I really don't feel comfortable doing this
I really think English and Japanese are incompatible and tell weebs to learn Japanese for this reason and even if you say yes it doesn't matter we can just get a general grasp I feel like it's just another one of those things you want to nitpick me for
perhaps most importantly, translating isn't fun at all
competing in the quiz is which is why I prefer it as a test, it is also the test that most accurately tests what you need when reading real texts while not compromising anonymity in any way
literally the only reason you wouldn't want to quiz is if you couldn't read Japanese
