a few, sometimes i see the usage of a word being pretty obvious in context and i want to remember it but it's not too obvious even reading the dictionary entry either in english or japanese so it's easier to just get it into context, also you can make multiple cards for single words to learn better an uncommon meaning or something

that being said i use vocab cards :)

tl;dr: 5 people are learning japanese, 1-2 people max are learning any other language. most people believe that the most useful language for a venezuelan (other than english) would be the language of the country they plan to go to, people say that they learned english without studying, people argue about japanese learning methods and post some things in japanese

More TaeKim confusion

>ボールを落すと落ちる

Where has the "と" gone from 落とす, I understand the verb above is transitive but TaeKim only shows 落とす as the transitive version and not 落す and doesn't explain what the difference between the two is?

What does えらんなく mean here, looked it up on jisho but it tells me is a conjugation of 選ぶ, shouldn't it be written with the kanji then?. The fan translation says "I never changed it so poor kids will gladly move in" but that doesn't give me any clues about what I'm misunderstanding.

Are you talking about this http://tansuo233.com/ ? I was always wondering if there was some Chinese sites that have a bunch of stuff that nyaa etc. don't. Seems kind of hard to navigate though, just hitting the title of something in doesn't always work. How would I go on about searching recent shares of random new amazon ebooks (azw3)?

A mix of both. Currently grinding through core 6k, started earlier this year, so I'm probably 1/4-1/3 through. Also working on a separate deck for words I encounter during class as well as during part-time work. As for the rest, I just look them up with my dictionary.
Also 1 volume of manga at my current level (mid way through between N5-N4) takes me roughly 1 and a half to 2 hours depending on how much words I need to look up or check grammar guides. There's still some inflections that I still can't quite grasp, so that's always a challenge. Then again, Granblue isn't really a highly complex manga to begin with, as long as it's very shounen, it shouldn't be too difficult. I tried going to melonbooks once to browse on eromanga, and some magazines are kind enough to have plenty of furigana, so it didn't take that long to understand it.

won't disagree with that at all. but i think people overestimate how much the average japanese person can read lol. there's android apps for random kanji readings for natives like 読めないと恥ずかしい漢字 and they show the % of people who got it right above each question and some of them are like 30-40% for shit that i would say is pretty easy. and these are the people actively going out of their way to play kanji reading games

>>21771834
Kindles are fine, and what's better, you can pick up an old paperwhite for pretty cheap now.

Bear in mind you absolutely need a 300PPI display for manga. And you will occasionally encounter author scribbles that need a zoom-in, but half the time you can't even read that shit in the dogshit raws most series have anyway. You could buy a bigger E-reader to avoid this, but you're looking at 4-8 times the price.

Tablets are garbage for reading on, if you need one for other reasons maybe it's a consideration. Personally, I bought my kindle primarily for LNs, which it's fantastic for, although the touch screen dictionary lookup is a bit slow and janky. Manga that hasn't been raped by a levelling tool looks very nice on it too.

this fine gentleman right here https://www.reddit.com/r/LearnJapanese/comments/9sbtrd/efficient_way_to_acquire_passive_vocabulary/
excerpts from his post. warning, only high IQ people can read this
> In my experience there are multiple factors that are way more important for remembering words than frequency. Clarity of the concept(comprehensible input?), ability to associate words with something you know, impactful context(both situations in stories that are so powerful you'll remember them for years and contexts in which words are so clear that word just clicks by itself) and other hidden factors that I wish were the topic of discussions when it comes to learning vocab instead of just parroting SRS intervals because science.
>Here's what I feel like helped me to learn a lot, and I mean A LOT of vocab in about half a year, from winter to summer of this year, and the advice I'd give myself from the beginning. Don't try to hard. Trying to remember words shouldn't be the main goal. The main goal of looking up words while you are reading should be so you can understand what the sentence and the story is about. Learning words is just byproduct of that(That's why I wouldn't use SRS at all, creating a card means you are trying to remember that word for some reason). So once you understand what sentence is saying, move on to the next one. The goal is to encounter as many words/new words overall per day as possible. Which is controversial, I remember a couple of days ago some guy posted that he reads light novels and encounters 15 new words per page and thats every sentence so he should read something easier. I believe the opposite to be more productive. The more new words you encounter every day the least time it will take you to acquire them all and in my experience there are no diminishing returns to this at all since you are not exhausting your brain, you are just reading a story you enjoy/watching a show you enjoy. So you should be able to encounter hundreds of new words every day without care in the world if you will remember them next time you'll see those words. And in relatively(6-12 months) short amount of time you'll find yourself having nice little passive vocabulary under your belt.

the hunterchad shit is overplayed for bait and comedic effect but there is truth to the fact that hxh is deeper than virtually all other shonen so it saddens me when people say they dropped it. i mean i can understand it considering one of the most praised arcs suffers from severe pacing issues at times but in the end i think it's worth it. also it takes like 40+ episodes for the show to get to its first hype arc and that's an unfortunate flaw. but the episodes before that are still OK.

I've been really into twitter comics nowadays, so I'll recommend this cute 'romantic' comic starring fifth graders: 事情を知らない転校生がグイグイくる. Romantic is in quotes because the characters are too young to have them, but you can tell the two love each other. Also as the characters are elementary schoolers, the vocab is manageable.

Think of the first three definitions from Euclid's Elements:
1. A point is that which has no parts, or which has no magnitude.
2. A line is length without breadth.
3. The extremities of a line are points.
From there, you can imagine a point as the 元 of a line, and a line as the 元 of a figure, and then connect that over to the Cartesian coordinate plane, where stuff is measured from its distance from the point of origin.

Sometimes I really enjoy writing out kanji.

Especially the red stroke in pic related. I find it very pleasing how it kinda 'crosses' over to the other quadrant, and how it is only 'used' again three strokes later.

I just love 戈, man. The best radical there is.

great radical for sure!

To me I prefer 戈 more because all the strokes of 走 doesn't really 'intrude' on other parts of the kanji. The last stroke of 走, the seventh in both 超 and 越, are independent of 刀 or 戉. Meanwhile, in 哉, or 我, or 栽, you can see the 'fusion' of strokes. And I really like that.

What's your least favourite radical? Mine would be 左右, if only because the way you write the intercrossing lines on the upper left isn't consistent.

i'd summarise it something like this: the japanese l/r is actually quite similar to a d - you start the tip of your tongue against the gums behind your upper-front teeth, and then flick it downwards quickly
if you do it a few hundred times (you'll look like an idiot but just persevere) you'll eventually find a small range of movements which make a sort of r-flavoured d; just make sure you can produce the sound both from rest (start of word etc.) and in flow (e.g. from an n like in benri 便利)

As someone who speaks a pure language as his mother tongue, and also speaks a whorish language like English, I can say with certainty that linguistic purity is for the better. One such benefit is, Words are easy to remember because you know all the root words and word coining procedures.
