touhou has such a rich, deep, and lively world. it's fascinating in every aspect. it's unfortunate that the canon games ,fighters and arcade style bullet hells, are two of the least immersive genre of gaming. not to say i don't love them for what they are but i feel like gensokyo has so much more potential.

The problem is that unless ZUN also wants it, such a game will never gain enough traction to be made.

That said, I kinda want something with the atmosphere, combat mechanics and difficulty of Dark Souls, the variety of enemies and locations would be great. A comfy anime-style MMORPG would be closer to the feels of the official Touhou games, however.

Fuck your immersion, I'll take the state of flow you can get out of playing a shmup any day. And besides, there's no gurantee that you would even be into Touhou were it not for being a shmup series. The storytelling and music would have likely turned out completely different had ZUN gone in a different direction.
