what do you mean by that? spanish, french, english, irish, german, italian... all those are western. can you specify which of those clearly different cultures you are abandoning?

>> No.21719176

It's not okay. Your own people will laugh at you, Japanese people will laugh at you and even /jp/sies will laugh.

You can't adopt something as your native culture, by definition.
Also, are you really adopting Japanese culture, or are you adopting something that only you yourself believe to be Japanese culture but in reality is slightly different? You will never truly have Japanese culture as your native culture unless you are born and raised in Japan by Japanese parents.

There is nothing wrong with loving another culture and taking what is good from it to implement into your own life. But I would find it hard to believe there is absolutely nothing good in your culture to abandon it completely.

I'm no expert, but culture is essentially the social and behavioral development of a group of people, right? So the thing a tribe of humans would develop first would be a way to communicate. Their method of communication is entirely unique to their group which would make it a huge aspect of their "culture". I'm definitely not a linguist, but while many European nations share the same alphabet, their grammar, phonetics, way they form sentences and whatnot, for the most part, differs from nation to nation. This would imply a difference of culture which has persisted for centuries. If those countries truly had NO culture I imagine Europe as a whole would be monolingual.

A bit of a side note here, but my personal theory on why America can appear somewhat bland or "cultureless" is that so much of their culture has been adopted by everyone else. Back when that wasn't the case yet, America seemed like a unbelievable dreamland when you first saw it.

>> No.21735080

That is actually very insightful. It's like how if you watch old Disney movies they seem cliche'd, but at the time, they were amazingly novel. Familiarity breeds contempt.

Japan has a strong and thriving culture that won't be reduced into a joke and a costume as easily as, let's say, the native american ones.
Instead the larper becomes a joke for the Japanese to laugh at.
