In my vanilla Civ4 I had to use 10+ exp PANZERS to clear out a single city defended by a single Grenadier and even then they can barely win 1-on-1. Unless the game is broken or I am a noob?

Two things really disappointed me about Civ 4.

First, Firaxis didn't have the balls to actually make a Hitler leaderhead. They made Churchill, FDR, DeGaulle, and Stalin, but were too afraid it would hurt sales to actually make a complete World War II scenario.

Second, the Japanese only got one leader, while England, France, America, and Russia got three. Even the Mongols got two leaders. Fucking lame. The Meiji Emperor should have been the second Japanese leader. So what if he was more of a figurehead than an actual hands-on-ruler? So was Queen Victoria, and she made it.

Actually, the Meiji Emperor WAS going to be the second Japanese leader from the original release of Civilization 4, but the designers felt that having a depiction of any of the Japanese emperors would have been too controversial in Japan. Its a fun game but everything is Eurocentric EVERYTHING. There's nothing as bizzare as playing as say, the Khmer Empire and all this classical European music playing in the background. I actually prefer the ancient era stuff because its more 'universal', the European stuff is great for playing European civs but it ruins what littleimmersion you had when it comes to everybody else.

They smoothed out the curve well in civ 4 it isn't nearly as steep as it was in civ1/2.

Mid tier difficulties are challenging yet fair and certainly don't have axemen beating SAM infantry. Shit like that only happened in previous games where they'd make games harder by giving insane bonuses to enemy units like barbarians having 300% defence.

Civ 2 is overrated. It has all of the problems of Civ 1 with none of the modern improvements of Civ 4. Making ten trillion shitty cities and pumping out units is still the definitive strategy, and then you can NUKE AND PARACHUTE your way to guaranteed victory.

I tried going back and playing Civ 1, and once the retro charm wore off it was unbearable. Having to manually move my unit across the cross continental railroad with no option of right click drag go here, no thanks.
