I'll have to intervene on the other anon's suggestion. Obitsu bodies are skinny. I tried putting a PN head on an Obitsu body before they made jointed PN's. PN clothes are baggy on Obitsu bodies. The ass might not be built like a lego figure but you'll encounter fit issues elsewhere. With an outfit as skimpy as Shimakaze's it probably won't turn out as well as you intend.

I'm pretty sure the PN Shimakaze had painted or molded white arms, they were delineated from the skin with cuffs.

As far as shoes go, you can attempt to make shoes, or lop off the feet (I know, I know) to make the boots fit. You can always get another body if you intend to spend any time with her boots off.

Of course the box have been kicked around. Resulting in this. By principle it's bad because Volks should use hard cardboard box like Mandarake does. Not "toilet paper" soft shipping boxes.

Miku was not too hard to dress up. Even the plastic clips were easy to put on. The fact that they are relatively big make them stay in place without popping out that the slightest touch.

I ordered my DDS Kagamine Rin last year from Mandarake at 80K yen plus shipping. "Used" but basically barely touched. For reasons, Canadian customs never hit Mandarake boxes so the total for Rin was around 1060$CAN total.

As for Ordering Miku at the last Volks May event... Canadian customs did obviously hit hard, as expected. 658$US plus shipping plus around 140$CAN in custom taxes. Grand total, around 1100$CAN.

So, by ordering from Volks, I paid 40$CAN more compared to a brand new Mandarake Miku at 80K yen. At least I have the Reboot version and 40$ difference at this scale is pretty much irrelevant.

TlDr; a 80K yen DD doll at Mandarake amount to the same total price as a 660$US Volks event doll.

That doesn't really make any sense. You have three variables to work with if you can't make the light source brighter.

1. ISO
2. Aperture (F stop)
3. Exposure

ISO is limited by your camera's sensor, unless it's a really fucking good sensor in a very expensive DSLR, noise becomes an issue really quickly. Boosting ISO is generally quick and dirty, best results when ISO is at lowest setting unless you intentionally want noise. Aperture is limited by your lens, the smaller the F stop number = bigger hole for light to get into the camera, but it makes the depth of field smaller. Big hole = usually much more expensive lens. Longer exposure is pretty much the best way of getting a better picture in low light, especially with a doll because IT DOESN'T MOVE.

Hay threads still going eh. I came back because I got a Cortex! You have questions and I many have answers.

First up she has a vinyl bust because I think the plastic one restricts movement too much, I don’t mind seam lines but if they bother you stay away. And lastly this was the ninja grade kit and it’s more work then you might think.

Overall I don’t give Cortex a recommendation to buy stick with vinyl.

Sounds like it's perfect for people with experience painting figures. Some buildup material and an airbrush and you can make some interesting customs without the core drama of sculpting from scratch.

It definitely is a little odd, but I personally like it, and it definitely photographs easily enough. New Cocoa is so dark and Dollfie/Obitsu/Milk skintones are so light that they can be fiddly under the sun. Dollfie Tan/SmD Tea/Old Cocoa are very cooperative.

I understand that. For me personally, dolls haven't been the magic bullet to my problems, but they've been, if nothing else, the kind of tylenol you can only get at the dentist. And that's enough for them to be worthwhile to me.

I think it's on topic to talk about why we like our dolls, that said. Whether it's purely for the aesthetics of having them around or something more than that, I always like to hear about what drew people to this hobby, personally.

I wouldn't call it a defining factor of whether it is or isn't a doll. More of a measure of quality. I don't think its uncommon for cheap/kid stuff to have painted eyes. They're so important for the kind of stuff discussed ITT though. I think its actually one of the major things people look out for to spot a counterfeit because they're the hardest part to recreate 1/1.

Are there any doll bodies with large hips or thighs? I was thinking of getting a doll soon and I really love Angel Philia bodies but I want to see what my options are before I get myself into this money sinking hobby.

Just FYI if you don't like the heads you can buy the Angel Philia parts separately and put them on a 50cm Obitsu body. One of my girls has a regular Obitsu body and head from Parabox with Angel Philia bust, hips, and thighs. As long as you don't go too extreme with the bust size you should be able to find clothes that fit. My girl fits in AZO2 clothes just fine.
