I'm going to be in Tokyo for the opening of the Comiket this summer but I still don't know if I should go or not.
Or at least I'd like to get an idea of what I should expect; I'm a foreigner and I barely speak any Japanese, would it still be worth my time? Any advice?

I tried to find LAST thread posted last month, but it doesn't seem to be archived anywhere.
I have left only a few of replies I answered, it may be reposted if necessary.
There were only three posters those who had a serious question in the previous thread,
including two Touhou and GBF game fans and one who is a friend of the circle.

Even if can not speak Japanese, u are not as bad as you think,
there are a lot of foreigners who can not speak Japanese like you, surprisingly.
However, there is only one month left, so u have to check out the flight tickets and accommodation costs right now.
"HND" is close to TOKYO BIG SIGHT, but it may be cheaper for "NRT" far fr mid Tokyo.

In the last thread I couldnt explain it properly,
paid wristbands are only required during times when admission is restricted.
I dont know until the day when it will be applied, bc this is the first time to adopt a wristband.
The photos of the wristbands have been published, but it can not be determined what day what color it is.

U can buy it at the venue, but the info on when u can buy it has not been released yet.
The price on the day is 500Y(including sales tax),
and it is announced that the wristband after the next day(different color one) can also be bought.

If u want to buy in advance, u can buy it, 540Y(including sales tax), at an animation shop on the list etc.
It may already be sold out the day before, especially in Akihabara and Ikbukuro.

Wristband details is here.
https://www.comiket.co.jp/info-a/C96/C96WristBand.html

EN page has not been updated yet, but please read only the basic notes, anyway.

I'll be going to Comiket to see my friends who are selling Doujinshi. They're giving me a circle ticket, too which is nice. It's the only reason I'd ever consider going to Comiket. I do want to buy Doujinshi and potentially buy the new Touhou game. I do speak beginner-ish (feel like I'm moving towards intermediate) Japanese so it isn't an issue for me.
>>21637138
I'd advise not going then, it's not really something you can wing. If you like Touhou and follow any specific artists, go check where their booths are if you want to go to Comiket. Keep in mind, Comiket is a 4 day event and each day is split into different sections. For example, Touhou is on August 12th (Monday). Also, don't just go to Japan for Comiket. If you're going to Japan, make it part of your plan of shit to see. This is what I'm doing. I'm also planning to go to Spring Reitaisai next year, also.

Are you sure being able to repeat few phrases from anime counts as speaking?

>>21633022
And yeah, it's pretty pointless to visit Comiket unless you have something specific you want. You'll only see massive crowds. It'll probably be even worse this year with those wristbands. There'll probably be tons of people waiting for those.

But I understand you might want to go just to be able to say you went. Well, decide yourself.

Yeah. I've taken 2 classes on Japanese and been self-studying since then. I sit in calls with my friends that invited me to Comiket and (try to) converse with them. Most of the time I'm just listening in and drawing. Trying to improve my listening skills at the same time is hard.

Anyone know about etiquette regarding autographs? Obviously it's a terrible idea when there's a line but how about when things are slow?

My only experience was bumping into Nakamura Takeshi one year at the AX artist alley when noone was around.

Apprently, if you have a circle ticket you don't need to have a wristband.

Wait until when the booth is sold out/slow/end of the event to ask. Ask politely and don't insist if they don't want to sign it. From what I've heard, some artists don't want to sign things cause those items tend to just get sold for more value later on. Bring your own market just in case?

Pic related, got that at C90

サークル参加される方

サークル参加される方は、サークル入口から入場する際に、サークル専用通行証と引き換えで同じくリストバンド形式のサークル用参加証を渡します。そのため、サークル参加する日については別途リストバンドを購入しなくても入場できます。

If that "have" meant "purchase", it is the correct answer, though.

Do u also want to know the phrases when asking in Japanese?

And bc "autograph" is hard to understand as word, it is better to use "サイン sign".
This is one of 和製英語 Japanese made-English.

If manga-like 島サークル island circles,
u may be able to accept "スケブ sukebu = sketchbooks" for quick drawing,
smaller size one is the best for the author and even it make ur luggage space small.

There are 4 big reasons why u should go to TOKYO this summer.
- before sales tax up (to 10, starts this OCT, now 8%)
- good to YEN rate (foreign currency exchange)
- before the Tokyo Olympics 2020, foreign travelers are welcome.
- bc there are many foreign travelers, it is easy to exchange travel tips.

C96 differences,
- fr 3 to 4 days total
- No EAST halls 東ホール and new halls (South 南 and Aomi 青海)
- use paid wristbands (explained already)
- changed nearest Yurikamome ゆりかもめ (one of access railway) stn name
fr Kokusai-tenjijō-seimon Station (国際展示場正門駅 -eki)
to Tokyo Big Sight Station (東京ビッグサイト駅 -eki), fr mid MAR 2019.

The uneasy factor is only accommodation and the weather condition on the day, basically.

This not the end, thinking next.
