It's intentionally left vague in order to introduce an element of uncertainty into the entire rest of Tsukihime.
How many of Shiki's chimp-outs were actually Nanaya/Roa taking charge of him, and how much was just his own unstable mental condition while hopped up on Kohaku drugs?
That's just part of why the coffee talk with SHIKI is my favorite scene in the game.

Implied to be not too long. Though it's probably before Melty Blood Act Cadenza (so, less than 2 years) since Aoko shows up there.

most of the KnK changes were actually helmed by the directors, as in, they only made changes they liked.

there was only 1 director who did everything nasu told him to, and that was the KnK 6 director. which is why he was chosen to do UBW.

what we do know is that nasu was rewriting heavens feel heavily, likely way beyond the scope of any changes in KnK. fortunately that director still had the balls to tell nasu to fuck off despite the immense "power" that fgo granted him now.

what you need to know about nasu is that he is the george lucas of japan. I don't know why this is only a thing in the japanese community, but it's not uncommon to see him refered to there as "book burning nasu" because he shits on already established lore constantly.

he clearly has no respect for his past self at all and thinks it's impossible for him to produce something that is worse than what his past self would have put out.

I have to say, the consistent reports of its 'comfy' feel are one of the main reasons I'm not enticed to go read mahoyo with the JP I've learned since it came out. I know on some level it's worth responding to, since there are people I respect who tell me it's "The Last Good Thing Nasu Wrote Before The Endless Hell Of FGO" but it's this intimation I receive alternately of 'comfyness' and 'insane fight scenes' which kind of puts me off. I don't really want 'comfy' urban fantasy, or Aoko blowing things up or whatever, no matter how well it's animated. I want the bleak and alienating urban fantasy from KnK, Tsukihime's insanity, horror, and death. For whatever reason these things seem more substantial. They're Nasu writing closer to the bone. I don't know if mahoyo can deliver that, and what I hear about it doesn't really induce me to think it will.

Well, if that's worth anything, a whole aspect of Mahoyo is Shizuki being unable, and to a certain extent, unwilling, to adapt the town and the modern world or Aoko being torn between her uncharatesristic shaky resolution to be a magician and her repressed wish of a normal life. Well too bad anon, Mahoyo is not just another KnK or Tsukihime retread in terms of atmosphere. It tries to be its own thing entirely, with a focus on the main characters living together and getting used to each other's personalities, punctuated by bombastic action scenes.
It felt 100% core Nasu to me when I read it earlier this year, in terms of how the characters are handled and how situations are described, like something that jumped out of the early 2000s. The action scenes are also the best he has written ever, when it comes to making them "interesting" strategically rather than just mindless fights (especially the ones in chapters 10 and 12).

But if all you want is the spooky atmosphere of Tsukihime, you're better off continuing to study and waiting for Tsukihime Remake.

I just hope the superior medium and implementation help.
