Chinese and Japanese populations typically lose between 20 and 30 percent of their ability to digest lactose within three to four years of weaning. Some studies have found that most Japanese can consume 200 ml (8 fl oz) of milk without severe symptoms (Swagerty et al, 2002).

The incidence of milk intolerance is approximately 19% in Japanese adults when 200 ml of milk is given. However, a much greater incidence was assumed when considered under the criteria of Western standard.

The Japanese don't have lactose free milk? We already have lactose free milk and pills for that stuff. However I wish lactose free milk was a standard now... since I'm lactose intolerant as well.

Milk is disgusting, but it's tolerable if converted to yogurt. This reduces lactose levels, adds enzymes that improve lactose digestion, improves taste, and improves storage properties (not dead yogurt).

I don't care much for the taste of milk by itself, but I eat lots of dairy products and things that have dairy products in them. (cheese being a big one)
So if I became lactose intolerant I'd be pissed and sad.

You can't become lactose intolerant by eating a lot of dairy. You can only become lactose intolerant by not eating it. Meaning, you're "safe".

Dairy is a bitch to digest, our intestines simply aren't made for that and need to be accustomed to it first. Simple as that. I mean, seriously, gathering data like this is stupid in the first place. I guess much of people are intolerant of the smell of septic tanks, some can even lose consciousness when subjected to it, yet you don't see this treated as a medical condition.

my calculus teacher said once that americans smell like sour milk to asians. I didnt believe him until i went alot of time without drinking milk, when i came close to it again it smelled horrible. i asked my mom about it and she said it was fresh, even though it smelled bad to me.
