2146553 No.2146553 [Reply] [Original]

I don't really visit /jp/, but I'm at least hoping somebody here could assist me.

I've been a fan of Higurashi for quite some time and love it, but I must admit, even though I have read through pretty much all the translated bits anime suki has put up, I still gotta say...the whole deal with Hanyuu and Ouka is still really confusing to me.

I get that Hanyuu forgave humanity of its sins, hence allowing Miyo to live and get help, but still...exactly where does Hanyuu stand in the Higurashi universe? Many refer to her as "god", but some of the myths spoken about in the games make it confusing (because they contradict on so many levels and also mention other "gods" and whatnot). So is she really the ultimate power or is it possible there's somebody above her? I mean it does come off weird since she does lower herself below humanity so much. Plus the whole deal with forgiveness seemed to focus more on sealing the evil oni away, rather than worrying about "people blaming each other for their wrongs".

Sorry if this is a really large question, but like I said, the story is still rather confusing when it comes to this whole issue. Or at least it is to me. Being unable to actually play it myself probably doesn't help matters...but anyways, thanks guys if you do help.

Ya, I never even mentioned Bernkatsel. I thought about it, but I figured if anyone answered they would as well. Her and the whole Umineko deal with the "witches" really just added more questions since it produced more possibilities.

So is this going off the belief that the Higurashi universe was just a creation by the Umineko "witches"? Because I've seen people support that theory one minute, drop it the next, and then support it again.

If you have play Umineko, it is pretty much stated that lambdadelta lost the game to bernkastel in Higurashi.

In Umineko, lambdadelta is helping Beato to beat Bernkastel to get her revenge. So it is almost 99% that they are the same person.

"Same person" is hard to say.

"Base concepts", sure. Miyo's existence probably caused Lambdadelta's existence (or visa verse, lol causality). Not necessarily that Takano Miyo went on to become a super paper.

We can't say how reality works when you have magical reality destroying girls floating about.

Of course, if nothing is real, then most certainly witches are not real.

Translation question here.

Why did Rika mention becoming a god? What I'm saying is how Umineko refers to them as witches normally, so it just came off strange to say god there. Later on it switches back to "I am a witch" so did I miss something?

More importantly why Rika even want to be god?

>> No.2146883

>>2146849
She speaks of the humans being on bottom, the witches being "in between" and the gods being on top. However, she also makes a note of "the Creator" who I'd assume is the true god who stands above it all.

I could be reading it wrong, but I believe the gods would be the ultimate title to obtain, hence why Rika would want it. Anything above would be impossible since nobody can outshine the one who made everything.

Quick question. I know this is a Higurashi thread but I couldn't find any Umineko thread and didn't want to start a new one just for this.

I just started playing the first game today and am now at that scene where it started raining and and Maria keeps telling that Beatrice was the one who gave her the Umbrella.

About how much of the first episode have I cleared? Also, are all episodes about the same length?

Not sure about Higurashi (haven't gotten around to finishing Onikakushi-hen yet) but when you finish each episode of Umineko it has a chapter list when you try to start it from the start again.

>> No.2149942

It's been made pretty fucking obvious in Umineko by now that Bernkastel was, at the very least, born from Rika's traumatic experiences in Higurashi. Lambda, on the other hand, is not Takano, though apparently they made contact with each other. Her appearance is basically just a homage.

Claiming Bernkastel from Umineko and Bernkastel from Higurashi are different entities is pretty much plugging your ears and going LA LA LA at this point, maybe because of the recent developments implying that Bernkastel is an evil sociopathic bitch who's just as bad about toying with human lives as Lambda.

>> No.2149993

>>2149228
Chapter list? Well after you finish the first chapter, you can move onto chapter 2 and so on. Actually you can unlock them at any time, but there's no reason to skip any chapters.

If you're getting bored just hold on a bit longer, shit hits the fan soon. You wont be able to stop reading once that happens.

I wonder why /jp/ loves to think fantastic setting like it.
Is there no anti-fantasy here? Do all players here think "witches are witches"?

>> No.2150019

>>2150001
At this point it could go either way, I figure "witches" exist, but they do not exist in what we see as reality. Meaning that they can exist in the parallel world that Battler is playing his game with Beato in, but they dont exist in the real world that Earth is.

Then again there are so many parallel worlds in Umineko its hard to tell which is the "real" world and which are parallels, or if they're all "real" or all "fake".

Ryu's gonna pull a Higurashi again, as in: "fantastic shit exists but the culprit is human"
In Umineko, I guess magic exists, but Beatrice is in fact a normal human.

>> No.2150043

>>2150001
It's pretty obvious that the "meta" setting is different from what the game is defining as the "magic and witches" Battler is arguing against. Plus Episode 4 and Ryukishi's own thoughts on anti-mystery versus anti-fantasy, pure anti-fantasy seems the wrong path to take too. Ange's entire character arc was about her discovering "real magic" and coming to terms with it as opposed to Beatrice's "fake magic", which does work based on deception.

>> No.2150049

I figure there will be two Beatrices. The witch and the real person. It'll all come down to Beatrice not actually being that bad and we'll get our Battler x Beato end.
