Anything new? I've been patiently waiting to see the mod improved little by little until I fully delve into it but I haven't seen a thread in a while.

I haven't played the story after a pretty long lag, so I don't know it by heart anymore. Consequently, I couldn't proceed with the retranslation past where I left off. I'll replay it again one of these days.

If anyone's interested in the meager work I've done so far, here it is. It covers all dialog up to, I'd say somewhere 1/2 - 3/4 of Chapter 1, and of the full screen narration, I've only reformatted up to the part where you enter the SDM for the first time.

Thanks to the modular language files, you can just copy both dialogs_story and game_menus_story inside your <MB root>/Modules/Touhou - Tinder/languages/en/ and the changes will take effect.

*There should NOT be any filename conflicts.

Not a whole lot from me, anyway. I was too busy to do any modding for a while, and I haven't felt like returning to it just yet. I've been working on a couple other creative projects instead while waiting for my enthusiasm for M&B to return. I'll probably get back to it before too long and at the very least finish up some things I left halfway completed. I also need to get back in touch with modder #2 and see what he's been doing.

I had been taking a break on it too. I had just about finished rebalancing most of the troop trees and I got a bit bored waiting on Origins anon doing his work on making a new map (which had been starting to look really good), so I just kinda stopped working on it for a while. I recently started playing with the GTA: SA Touhou modding community on /jp/ too and the work they've done is impressive, so I've been inspired to get back to work on this. I'll check in with Origins anon and see how work is going on his end.

As far as I'm aware the Chinese have done no work whatsoever. I check in periodically and neither their forums nor their chat group have been active.

I had even considered the possibility of using some of the models and porting them to M&B. As long as they have a relatively small number of bones to their skeleton it ought to work, but model porting in M&B is a nightmare anyway so I'm not too hopeful.

Tinder has more features than Origins because it was developed by the Chinese after Origins. Functionally speaking it has a story mode, different troop trees, a few better models, a caravan system, and a different map. But Origins anon did a lot of work fixing up some broken siege maps that were never fixed in Tinder, plus he did his own balance changes that are pretty good. Both mods are going to be combined with the best features of both sometime in the future anyhow since the Chinese development has crawled to a halt and the stuff they're planning isn't that good anyway.

Hecatia as the pretender for the Underworld or the Netherworld maybe both with a 3rd as an eintei lord, using all 3 of her forms.

Okina as a pretender for the netherworld (because fuck yukari and her friend) or as a hakurei lord

Seija as the Hakurei pretender

not sure who I would recommend as the other pretenders, and I think it's obvious where the other characters should go.

Alright, I'm feeling enthused enough to do some modding again. Back to the endless pit of torment that is blender's UI I go!

Does anyone have any ideas regarding what might make a good banner for Koakuma? On a whim, I created replacements for what I consider to be some of the less impressive lord banners left over from my first overhaul, but I have no idea what to do with hers. My attempts at making something using her colors and a generic book symbol did not go well.

I haven't inserted it into the game yet, but I wrote pretender dialogue for Seija, and finished/polished up the dialogue someone wrote for Kastor in one of these threads. Those will both likely be in the next version.

Hecatia as the Underworld pretender makes more sense than anyone else I can think of, though of course we currently lack a model for her. Maybe someday.

I think the rough solution to all this would be to take all the different head, eye, and hair combinations, and create different versions of them with low, middle, and high stats, and then add them to the troop trees, or somehow allow the player to decide what heads different troops can use.

There are already the 'head' type helmets, which could theoretically be added to the Kappa troops, who could spawn with a random one on.

There is also a rather unusual feature made by the chinese devs wherein the you can choose what equipment your troops take into battle, BUT the only selection is the stuff within their item table - which for many units has no selection at all, they just have 1 set of equipment and that's it. Also it affects -every single unit of that type-, so you can change the head of your Kappa1, but they all use the same head. And then change the head of your Kappa2, and in the end you have an army of kappas with two different faces.

I decided to test the idea, and changing around hair, eye, and accessory color actually does do a fairly decent job of making kappa troops stand out from Nitori. It also makes them a bit more visually interesting in general when they have some variations and don't all look exactly alike. I might take this further and see what I can do with other troops.

That would be nice, but it would also require a lot more effort. Many of these meshes actually aren't all that low-poly, despite appearances: Nitori's head is 4000 polygons. Given my limited experience with 3D modeling, I find that pretty hard to work with. I can make minor fixes and remove parts, but making actual significant edits that look good is probably out of my league.
