Hey. Quite the casual fake fan of the earlier iterations of this game, both on console and in arcades. So, there's this new arcade version as of 2017, but they replaced the right brake control with a stationary handle with a green button. I realize the pedal on the floor is for the horn, but have no clue what the fuck the green button does. Even the high level players at the local arcade don't seem to use it, and I asked one and he said he had no idea what it was for, either. Can't even find directions on the internet on their website. The basic directions are just for how to accelerate and decelerate, basic things like using pedal to honk at level crossings or when entering station, not accelerate when in a station, etc. I found one basic instruction video online but it was in Korean, which I do not understand. Plz halp. Also, 電車でGO! thread, as there aren't enough train threads on this board?

Where do you live that there's a DdGO machine at your local arcade? Japan I'd guess? Even if you call yourself a casual fan, is there a game you'd suggest for a beginner? I know of the series but haven't bothered to play any of the games.

Yea, I am a dancing money in Japan, and I speak broken Japanese. The people that I asked about the green button, for example, I spoke with in Japanese, and they were confused about the button, too. It's a fun game, although expensive. If one wants to play, say, a racing game, 100 yen per play. Or, a beat game? 3 of 4 songs for 100 yen, depending. The best "value" on these denshade cabs is 3 stations (each is about 2 minutes) for 400 yen ("default" play is 2 stations for 300 yen). So, in under 5 minutes you can easily burn 800 yen on this game. Mind you, at old arcades you can play the earlier iterations for 100 yen per play, or sometimes even less.

If you are curious about the series, there are some excellent video tutorials you can find on YT, not to mention translated manual pdfs and things on gamefaqs. You can of course play the games in emulator, with or without one of the specialized controllers, to see if you like it, before perhaps purchasing a legitimate copy either in English or Japanese (there isn't much to learn, so even if you do not speak Japanese, after reading translations of the screens, you will know everything required to play in Japanese).

To your question: as I am a filthy casual, it is difficult to give a solid recommendation, but DDG2 Final I believe is typically regarded as the "best" at-home version. Personally, I played Professional, as well as the actual cabinets for the older versions, and am a bit unclear on the differences. Here's an example of gameplay from Professional: https://youtu.be/oKJjZ91KI5Y

Oh, by emulator, I mean either in emulator or directly on PC (as there is a PC version).

I would probably emulate as I am a lazy bastard. I could emulate the arcade versions as well I'm assuming, if I could find a rom, which I'm sure I could, so assuming those are superior to the home versions, I could just directly emulate them instead of dealing with ports.

I'm jacking your thread to talk about arcades in general OP. What do the red and green buttons on the sides of Starwing Paradox cabinets do? And why do so many of them have unresponsive seats?

I have seen the train games around the arcades, but I'm not sure what the fun in them is. I haven't seen anyone playing them.

>> No.21453059

>>21453008
Sure! OP here. The green button allows for movement of the machine. The red button arrests/stops the movement. Also, if I remember correctly, you have to be "buckled in" for the machine to move, as well. Some serious players will play without the machine moving, just as many serious, for example, console shooter players will play with vibration off. For fun, though, yea, just make sure to buckle the seatbelt, and, if that does not work, press the green button.

The reason people aren't playing DDG as much is, in my estimation, price, but, again, depends on the area. If you are in a tourist area, something of that nature is a bit complex or opaque, most likely. Smaller arcades that still have those machines, though, in my experience, see them used or with lines quite often. Give DDG a try once or twice if you can spare the yen, and you might find it interesting!

Thanks for the info anon. I'm not sure if it's the buttons or the seat being busted though because there's usually a message I can't fully read about the seat sensor. Still, I'll try the green button next time. How about the red button on the right stick next to the weapon switch? I haven't found anything for that to do either.

I'm in Shinjuku for the next week, so I'll probably give everything a go by the time I leave.

Sure thing! As for the red button on the right... hmm. One is weapon switch, and one is drive charge, so you're probably thinking of that one. (I've only played this game a few times, so don't quote me on that!). Ah, Shinjuku, so, staff at arcades there should speak at least some limited English, so don't be afraid to ask them, either! Enjoy!

You've never seen a train crossing?

Yes normally the cars stop at the bars to let the train go across, not the train waiting for the cars to cross.

My mind is blown.

I tried DdGO in Akiba today and completely failed. Guess I should have looked up a basic tutorial first since the game's one was too unclear for me.
