Every time I decide to start visiting /djt/ again I fall off the wagon and my studying habits go to shit. This has happened 3 or 4 times in a row now.

As someone relatively new to learning, do you think it's more useful to watch stuff with japanese (kanji and kana) subtitles or English ones? On one hand I think English subtitles can just make me lazy and make me read them rather than listen, on the other I don't really know enough japanese to truly understand without English.

Using subtitles with kana/kanji makes it easier to look words up in a dictionary, which in turn aids in vocabulary acquisition.

I'm at that stage where I have an expansive enough vocabulary that I can watch an episode of Ojamajo Doremi and understand at least one word per sentence. Sometimes whole sentences if they are simple enough. I haven't bothered to learn grammar, yet, but I think I may shortly be able to do some basic reading or watching raw anime if I learn the grammar.
