The meme itself is retarded, because greentexting is incredibly useful and one of the best things to come from 4chan, but it's got the good purpose of alienating crossboarders/newfags. The barrage of "who are you quoting", "based on what" and "get out of /jp/" is definitely annoying and doesn't bring anything to the discussion but honestly, if it can drive away newfags even a little bit I'm willing to tolerate it.

It doesn't prevent sarcastic misquoting, but discourages "high-effort" greentext story posts because the poster can expect his long greentext to be dismissed. It also sends a message to newfags that things are done differently here than on /avg/.
