So does AA count as a visual novel?

>> No.2136366

Yes.

>> No.2136372

It's sort of borderline between point-and-click adventure and visual novel, I'd say.

>> No.2136376

>>2136364
Yes.

>> No.2136401

Does Planescape: Torment count as visual novel?

>> No.2136404

>>2136401
No, but it does count as a JRPG.

>> No.2136412

>>2136404
What? It's pretty decidedly western...

>> No.2136421

Not quite. It places even lower than actual visual novels for what it concerns interactivity.

>> No.2136426

When reading AA, it seems like the best thing ever, but when you're done you realize how stupid it actually was.

>> No.2136427

>>2136421
Seriously? I've only played a few VN, Kanon, Little Sister Kana and fuck yea Nocturnal Illusions, but it has much more interactivity than those.

>> No.2136432

>>2136426
That's why you don't think too much about it afterwards. AA is just great getting you into mood

No because it's made by Capcom.

But that's the standard /jp/ reaction to everything. I remember nearly everyone loving Brass Restoration (in fact, someone remarked in the thread something along the lines of "What, no negative reactions? This is bizarre, /jp/") when it came out and the meme was that the protagonist "may only have one arm, but he has a huge cock." Now it seems most people consider it shit and think the lead's an emo wuss.

>> No.2136456

>>2136443
Personally, I thought the main character was an emo wuss from the very beginning.

>> No.2136460

Can't say about details for sure, but one thing I have no doubts: I fucked you're mom

What? The first game was awesome.

The second and third were kinda lame.

>> No.2136472

What? You're crazy. The first one was pretty okay, the second was lame, the third was great, and the fourth was kind of lame.

>> No.2136478

>>2136462
The second game was kinda lame but the third was better than the first two in pretty much every way, fuck your shit

>> No.2136487

But the fourth has a MAGIC imouto.

>> No.2136485

>>2136462
>>2136472
There were actually both great and not so good CASES in each installment.
Only the 4th one feels a little lackluster, due yo our lead being overshadowed too much, among other things.

>> No.2136492

>>2136472
This, except I loved the fourth.

>> No.2136493

Maya or Trucy?

>> No.2136503

>>2136427

Well, that's just my personal opinion, honestly, but from what I've seen the heart of all of the Ace Attorney games boils down to choosing the right answers, or picking the right items at the right moments, or else you'll get bogged down forever.
At least regular visual novels have some sort of flow, for their credit. I mean, as the plot rolls along you'll be asked to make a certain decision and whether they can be morally wrong or not, the game will still go on regardless, with all the consequences your pick may entail. Which also leads up to a second problem of AA, which is that there's no replay value to be found.

>> No.2136507

>>2136493
Maya, no fucking question.

>> No.2136511

>>2136493
I'll admit it, I prefer Trucy

>> No.2136527

>>2136503

That's not a bad thing. You can enjoy them for the story, and feel pleased if you deduce the correct items/answers.

Trucy, but not by much.

>> No.2136539

Maya for the win.
Trucy for the SURPRISE MC IMOUTO and whenever she's without her ridiculous fucking hat.

Angel Starr.

>>2137572
Oh please. UBW is basically just a Disney movie speech about the beauty of dreams with a few barely decent fight scenes thrown in, while AA gives puts you in a difficult and emotionally wrecking situation with constant new developments. Finally, when it looks like all is lost, you get the final chance to nail the bastard responsible in a very satisfying manner. I felt like a freight train for two days after finishing it.

Are you saying that old school "beauty of dreams" Disney was bad?

>> No.2137653

It sure isn't GAR.

>> No.2137657

Phoenix Wright is either a really limited and easy point-and-click adventure with lots of text, or a really interactive visual novel with only one end.

>> No.2137664

>>2137657
It's a visual novel with enough user-interaction to hook you into what you're doing and build the proper suspense. It makes you a part of the reading experience, while not really having you as a driving force for changing the story... since failure is the only alternative to winning.

>> No.2137685
