First Seiko album I listened to was Sound of My Heart, mostly because of the extremely 80s cover art. I disliked it. But after listening to the much superior Squall, I also listened to all her other 80s non-compilation albums, and every one of them is better than Sound of My Heart. Sound of My Heart has the best cover art though.

It's a shame her English album bombed because it's good even with the Engrish/heavy accent. Also a shame that there was really no way for someone like her to succeed over here because she was an exceptional performer who I think could've won people over through on-stage charisma alone.

Arguably the American market is still not terribly friendly to anyone who doesn't sing in English. Babymetal is still more a niche curiosity than anything else and BTS is carried solely by fangirls who will grow out of it. I think there's something of an antipathy or skepticism towards Asian acts among Americans. Even someone like Utada, who had every tool needed to succeed in America where people like Akina and Seiko failed, bombed.

I'm not the biggest Yukiko fan honestly. I want to consider her an even more prototypical '80s idol than Seiko so her songs tend come off as a little bland to me. The one exception is Private Red. The kind of generic lyrics/vocals combined with the haunting music gives it a really cool feel, like just below the shiny surface is something dark and unsettling.

Which, you know, was definitely the case with Yukiko in the end.

Three part Yukiko documentary someone put together. It's around 90 minutes in total so it's fairly in depth. It is kind of amazing how enduring and almost venerated she is despite only having a two year career but that's the power of dying young and in such a shocking way I guess.

I do wonder if she would've wound up having staying power and evolving as someone like Shizuka did or if she just would've been another in a sea of flash in the pan '80s idols.

The better question is who could have imagine that music would have devolved to the point of lyrics being meaningless that permitted nipponese with it's syllabic nature to become the pinnacle of music.
The way I look at it, nip vocals are just another instrument. I for one welcome our nip music overlords, they make much better sounding and way less degenerate music than our current (((mainstream music))) producers. Hello line paint color design address brightness.

>> No.21462617

>>21462554
All vocals are an instrument to be honest. There's plenty of western songs that have shitty, awful lyrics because for the most part people don't really pay much attention to them. I'd say being able to really understand the lyrics only matters if you're listening to hip-hop and even then it's not like I don't like listening to Jap rap some times because the language itself flows very well (important in hip-hop) and is pleasant to listen to.

I think for a lot of people too, this stuff was just flat out unknown to them. You would've had to have been in Japan in the '80s on vacation, for business, stationed there or whatever or live in places with lots of imported stuff to likely hear any of this. But the internet's made it easy to find a lot of this stuff and now you can find endless hours long compliations and mixes of Showa era J-Pop, idol music, bands and whatever on youtube with little difficulty.

Much as I hate vaporwave and A E S T H E T I C fags the explosion of that stuff in the last few years has definitely led to people seeking this stuff out too and realizing that there was a lot of good music coming out of Japan in the 1980s.

It makes it seem like I'm shilling but I've come across some neat shit thanks to J-Pop Sakura. I would've never had a clue that Candies Beats exists otherwise.

Why did para para and eurobeat decrease?

>> No.21522387

Eurobeat kept getting faster thats why its crazy how the early SEB Albums are basically Italo Disco and the Latter are just what the fuck.

I wonder if Nokko is as well. Her cover of You Can't Hurry Love is in English and she sounds pretty good and completely intelligible.

Speaking of Nokko, Friends is such an awesome song. Very Berlin.

You didn't know someone as famous as Yuumin but thought you had heard them all? I love that song though, good taste.

What about the 60s?

>> No.21536909

>>21522358
Avex snagged a near-monopoly on the production labels *and* which nightclubs got the newest/hottest releases with an iron fist, then proceeded to use said fist to suffocate the absolute fuck out of it with little to no marketing, severe yet unoriginal creative control over the production labels, and the slowest move to digital releases of any of their properties and acts.

Kind of like they attempted to do with trance and "hyper techno", but far less successfully than they did with eurobeat.

Can someone help me? I'm looking for this singer but I can't remember what her name is. She was in this group called Gulnerica or something and there's a picture of her where she has a robot arm.
