Reimu Hakurei is a shrine maiden who makes herself known through a series of mysterious appearances.[15]

The Shrine Maiden

Her name, Reimu Hakurei, means 'Hail To the Wind'. Reimu is also known among the Tokugawa household as "The Shigure of Wind" or "Foolish Wind". Unlike the name of the original Shigure, Reimu's name was written down in the form of a number after each kanji.[16] A group of children called the Wind Tribe also call Reimu the Wind goddess and take her as their savior.[17] The girls of the Tokugawa family, even Reimu herself, call her the Wind goddess.[18] Reimu was the original ruler of the Wind People for two thousand years, as demonstrated by the Wind Tribe.

When she first appeared on Earth, Reimu was the Queen of Heaven, the Queen of Wind, and the Princess of the Wind.[19] However, she fell into a deep slumber when She was taken.
