Post photographs and videos you or others have taken around Japan.
Modern or traditional, urban or rural, landscape or macro, anything is good.

Try to keep pictures natural looking if possible.
If you know the location a photo was taken, it is useful to post it with the image.

This thread seems kinda sad with no one posting, so I may as well start it off. I know this isn't to the usual quality that most images here are, but I have yet to get a proper camera for when I go over to Japan.

Stayed in a place called Hongu (or Kumano Hongu) in the center of the kii peninsula.
Its on the kumano kodo hiking trail, so it has many nice walks around the area, a few temples and a fuckhuge tori gate.
Also has a massive river bed thats like 200m+ wide (660 freedom distances), but only like 20m on the far side has a running river all the time, this section split into two smaller rivers next to each other. The rest seems to mainly be from when they have typhoons and it floods like crazy.

Thinking of going first half of November this year if that will get the colours?

>> No.21311062

I took that photo on the 29th of november 2018.
in 2017 i did 3 weeks in japan from early mid November (like 13th) to early december (5th). autumn colours everywhere were great.
In 2018 i did a trip from late mid november (17th i think) to late mid december (18th). Autumn colours were for the most part less pronounced the further i went into the trip (though obviously pockets like that pic that were still awesome in late november)
This could obviously just be variation from year to year, but i have heard early to mid november is best and it starts winding down after.
So I would say aim for the middle of november to be the middle of your trip for best colours. If early/first half of november is the only time you can go i think it would still be good, you can google an autumn time map of japan to see what areas usually peak at what times (just like for cherry blossoms)

It's nothing much really, more convenient than exciting. It's a train. The power poles along the railroad simply zip by the window a bit faster. The sense of speed isn't anything much. Which is impressive from an engineering standpoint, but it doesn't really make for a journey any more exciting than, say, the regular train from Narita to Tokyo.

Here are some from what ended up being one of my favourite temples in japan (well the gardens around it at least). Entsuin temple in matsushima just north of sendai.
pic 1 the best rock/zen garden i saw in japan. I just like the little bits of red autumn leaves throughout it and the mossy garden around the rocks.

Yeah i loved all the other "plain" rock gardens i saw and would love one as well. But i also love cosy mossy gardens like that and it just combined the two nicely. I could probably do without the fallen autumn leaves clogging it up but i did also think the red splashes here and there looked cool

IrfanView batch conversion. Set the long or short side to what you want (use at least 2560 and/or aim for a 2.5MB-3MB file size), or resize by one of the many other options, set jpeg quality to 100% and hit the go button. Only ever use the JPG lossless transformations plugin to rotate (or crop), though - which you'll need to use on portrait photos or 4chin will rotate them incorrectly when it strips the EXIF metadata.
>Granted they're all taken with a powershot so I'm not sure if the quality is up to par with what people want here.
Powershots can take good photos and any photos are better than no photos. Also, this isn't >>>/p/

Surely the nips must have some benefits.
I hear their workplace is changing as well.

Australia's workplace in general is far more laid back and has decent benefits but I don't think it will last.
Education for instance used to be free, now you have to pay it back but the interest is very low since it is only adjusted to inflation.
Medicare is good but will get the axe eventually.
Retirement wise working until you are at the edge of your grave at the ripe old age of 70 is a death sentence.
What is worse is that you won't be allowed to withdraw your superannuation, instead it becomes your pension.

The main advantage in the US is the lower tax and lower cost of living. With the exception of cities like California and New York.

With all the wooden building, I often found it difficult to tell whether a place was completely abandoned or just unused for some time (ie, used for storage, or closed in case it's of some use later) The decay hits harder and faster in wood.
With european concrete buildings its easier to tell when a place is abandoned for good.
But, yeah, this one was definetly abandoned.

About the malls, I love them, and Osaka just happened to be full of these shotengai
They're just streets full of small/familiar shops, most of them old as fuck, that associate for promotion, maintenance and such... They usually have some kind of cover for the rain and sun, buth otherwise it's just a regular street that acts as a mall, suburbs have them literally everywhere

Search for a rural area that looks nice near the cities you are visiting, take a train there and rent a bike... Cycling is the best way to stumble with places like this and see nice places off the beathen path.... Roughly plan a route beforehand, make it go trough some places you like and enjoy.
A lot of blogs, tumbrls, instagrams have been posted in these threads will all kind of cool places/areas, I like this one in particular, (the list at the left are the prefectures)
http://showaspotmegri.cocolog-nifty.com/
Just do your own research following your tastes and preferences
Save a handfull of days (depending of the length of your stay) from the regular main cities and famous places sightseeing to this king of comfy random cycling routes, youll enjoy it.

Japanese had both unions and union-busting prime ministers, the sense of two-way loyalty is long dead. Japanese corporations and governments now just squeeze every drop of value they can get out of a worker before throwing him away for the next schmuck.

>> No.21490481

>Remember when we had unions to stop that shit?
Unions are useless now. I worked a unionized job for years, and the union never did anything but make my situation worse. I think the unions used to be a wonderful thing, but they lost their bite -- I'm afraid they've become the lapdogs of the corporations they were initially supposed to stand up against.

>> No.21490540

I've had issues with unions too. Working in a factory.
They allowed my co-workers to be extra lazy to a malicious degree, and prevented the place from just firing them.
They never actually helped working conditions at all that I saw. Though thing may have changed "for the better" before I got there, so that's a fair point.
And they tried to level the playing field, so that people who performed extra well can't be rewarded extra well, in an attempt to "stop demoralizing the rest" or some stupid as fuck shit. Like, how in the hell does that make sense? If you stop rewarding the most productive people then there's no reward to seek for being productive; THAT's demoralizing, and demoralizing the more important people at that.

I'm sure there's good unions out there. Or at least that there was at some point in time.
But my limited experience with them is simply horrid. At least when the company itself isn't evil.

4chan strips EXIF data from JPGs, including rotation data.
It's a good practice to remove the EXIF data yourself before posting any personally taken photos online, for privacy's sake. Or prevent it from being added/used in the first place with camera settings. Though it really doesn't matter as much as many think.
In the process of removing it you can check rotation, or prevent it from being an issue with settings where available.
