I’m convinced all the anti anki people aren’t using it right. If you keep your reviews under 5s and keep your cards extremely simple there’s no problem. It’s a breeze and super effective. I bet they’re all doing sentence cards with multi sentence long monolingual definitions they can barely read and averaging 20+ sec per card.

I have a little resource for you all.
These are the so called "spicy" adjectives.
That's because they have a letter from the か column, ら column, and they end in い.
Of course, they're not all い-adjectives.

辛い - からい - spicy
嫌い - きらい - disliked
暗い - くらい - dark, gloomy
古来 - こらい - ancient
軽い - かるい - light in weight
華麗 - かれい - magnificent
綺麗 - きれい - pretty, clean
黒い - くろい - black, suspicious

The Japanese use these in varous situations, they're very useful, and you should already know how to put them in your anime cards.

Most people will watch anime or VNs regardless of what i tell them. The point of listing it as optional is to really emphasize that you need to learn vocab and grammar from reading first.

Well I wake up, go to the gym while listening to random Japanese pod casts. Come home to do some anki (takes around 30 minutes), then proceed to just go to daiweeb watch some episodes of whatever the fuck I want, write down every word/phrase I don't know in my notebook. Then play a VN with a text hooker or read a novel from the library until around 5pm. By the time I'm starting to get bored my league of legends friends go online so I play a bit with them (I actually put the game in Japanese so I could continue to passive listen and read). Then after that I take a nap, come here to see what the fuck you guys doing, probably eat something light (I'm only eating breakfast and dinner so I can lose weight), and then proceed to do whatever the fuck I want.

i got super happy just now when i realized that i'm exactly where i dreamed of when i first started learning a few years ago

i went from having to look up literally every 2 words in a pretty basic shoujo manga, to only having to look up one word every 100 or so (for most things). i can play japanese games comfortably and watch anime without english subs. i can hold conversations fluidly with natives, even if i sometimes have to ask what something is.
not sure what anyone else's standards are but for mine, i've "made it". at this point i'm just looking things up as i go, and making sure to get lots of listening regularly too. i feel good.

I just tried watching videos on both YouTube and Nico while checking CPU usage and it was considerably higher on the Nico video, even after setting the YouTube video quality to 1080p.

YouTube had 2 threads at ~40% and 2 more at ~20 or less, I think. Nico had 1 at 90%, 1 at 80%, then two more somewhere in the region of ~40-50%.

Honeslty if it's a language that's close to the one you know, duolingo is probably a decent tool. It was amazing when they gave you articles to translate too. Learned more from it than I did with 4 years of (mandatory) french classes.

There's all these myths that being multilingual makes you smarter or something, so people flock to it, and a lot of kids use duolingo as a class suplement.

You can learn the same stuff by imitating Japanese people's speech patterns. There's thousands of videos out there that can be used as listening practice. Even most dialogue in SOL anime and the like are relatively acceptable to imitate.

Where there's a line with audio, try to understand it by listening alone. If you fail, then read the text FROM THE VN WINDOW (while optionally replaying the audio for the line). If you still don't understand, then you can go to the texthooker window and read the line again from there while looking up whichever word(s) you don't know.

Make sure you don't get in the habit of having your eyes glued to the texthooker window 24/7 though. It can be very easy to end up just mindlessly dragging your mouse cursor across every single word to Nazeka/Yomichan it without even trying to read it first, at which point you're pretty much just one step away from using a machine translation. You should always try to read the text from the VN window first before you resort to the texthooker.

Well, I'm immersing myself in 日本語. Every week day I listen to 1 to 3 jpod101 audios (depends on the length) during commute.
I have my phone set to 日本語 so I'm forced to learn new words all the time.
I write out one tae kim's grammar entry.
I'm already on almost 1000 words on anki.

Everybody forgets that two people don't learn the same way, everybody is different. AJATT is too hardcore for some people and will just frustate them because they don't have the motivation needed.

JP will not reach you to native level, sure. But Fluency is a myth and is something impossible to achieve (except for hardcore people that dedicate their lives to the language.)

So stop being elitist about the best way to learn, JP101 and tons of grammar guides are good enough for someone that doesn't want to learn how to speak Japanese but wants to get the feeling that he is learning Japanese.

Skim read tae kim, you don't even need to read but 5% of the english in it, just get the jist of the easy examples and move on. You need to bombard your brain with japanese to learn it, not read english on it. After ~2000 of mined sentence cards, I recently switched to anime cards and it's more than a meme. So much more pleasant to rep and I finish at least twice as fast so I can go back to jacking off to crossdressing anime boys that much faster. thanks based quizchad.

If you're a brainlet like me, I'd still recommend sentences in the beginning to make raw vocab "stickier", I tried doing just vocab on the front of flash cards when I first started and while possible was not pleasant at all. Sentence were easy because they're basically cheating and practically have the answer on the front, but I think it's worth it to make transitioning to the optimal format a lot easier.

That tool is actual, literal bullshit. The person who made it accounted for approximately nothing in designing it.

Your interval modifier ultimately doesn't matter. It has the same effect as changing the ease of all your cards. The only use of it is to set your default ease to 130% and your interval modifier to 200% so you effectively get about 250% ease but the again and hard buttons can't lower your cards' ease anymore. Using it for anything aside from that is just using it to adjust the ease of every card in your deck, which is something where nothing can simulate an ideal value, period.
