Mountain of Faith is pretty good to start with, it plays the best. Perfect Cherry Blossom is nice. You could also just start with the PC98 games and work your way up.

OP, start with EoSD. It will make you more grateful of the better graphics and visual hitbox once you get to the later games, instead of pissing you off when you go back to it.

Whether a game is translated or untranslated does not effect the gameplay. Playing a game simply for Kaguya~ (or anyone else~) is stupid. But most importantly, IN is definitely not the best game to start with, and you fucking know it.

It does have great music though.

I don't recommend starting with IN. It breeds bad habits that are hard to get rid off later. I would have preferred to start with something more challenging, get used to the bullet hells, instead of the easy death-bomb system and auto-collect from the start.

SA has that, and I'm sure the rest of them will now too

I have yet to play SA, but I'm assuming that other than it and IN, none of the other Touhou games have auto-collect. As such, it'd be better to get used to not having it from the get go, as it's easier to transition to a system that's simpler to what you've been used to rather than something more complex.

Then again, same argument could be used against focused movement as the early Touhou games didn't have those either.

I wasn't saying that they were hard or easy, just that he had some very limited experience with similar games before. And it was very limited experience, it's not like he cleared them or anything.

But what's the point of starting on easy? There is nothing you can learn playing on easy that you can't learn faster on normal.

It's only stupid if the person is one of the current generation of gamers who expect to be able to beat a game on their first try. Normal isn't so hard that someone won't be able to clear it after some practice.

Well, for someone who hasn't played Touhou before, it needs at least six months to be able to clear bosses like Yukari or Mokou.
Being able to 1cc on Easy should take one to one and a half month though.

To me, a game needs to be challenging for it to be "fun".
Easy to normal is not a big jump it's a step up, but it's not impossible. it just takes a little effort and some practice. If a difficulty level doesn't feel hard, then you are playing on the wrong difficulty level.

1cc came after two weeks or so, I admit. Still, it helps if you first try to beat Stage 1 on Lunatic, just Stage 1, without losing lives or bombing. Makes easy modo seem a lot more playable.
