Well, ultimately if you'll take any version at all, go with CN because it's the original and the most up to date. Alternatively pick based on which region you're closest to in order to get better ping in coop modes.
Beyond that, if you ever intend to spend money the costs seem to vary wildly with region, so you may factor that in.

Bang Dream has no stamina and frequent cover songs if that's you're sort of thing. Events are pretty comfy and can do it at your own pace.

Starlight Stage has stamina and events usually revolve around grinding the same song 400-500 times.

CN is a terrible idea not because anything the server does but because of the Chinese government. There's always annoying shit that gets added to CN servers of stuff like forced censorship, ID check and other annoying stuff so I really wouldn't suggest going for it at all.

I guess the choices are Bang Dream, Starlight Stage, Theater Days and Love Live. There's also SideM if you like dudes but you probably wouldn't be here if you did. Then there's also something like Tokyo 7th Sister but no one plays that.
Looking at the main ones I think you need to decide if you:
Want a lot of girls which means specific ones get content less frequently or a fewer girls that get content more often
Want covers or original songs
Have a device that can take advantage of 3D models or a weaker one that can't
Like the look of the art/girls more in one game than the other
Have specific taste in music that one game caters to more
Care about official extra content, doujins and such
Want lolis or not

I think Starlight Stage is still the gold standard for me. The presentation is just head and shoulders above the competition, especially their 3D MVs, which is very important for me and a lot of what keeps me playing is just seeing what kind of MVs they're coming up with next. I also enjoy the variety in music a lot and I like games with a lot of characters to collect since it's fun to mix and match them into different units (which is purely a visual thing). Also I think BD suffers from a really bad case of same face like LL and Starlight Stage doesn't have that problem.

Starlight Stage might as well not have stamina since they feed you so many stamina recharge items that it's basically impossible to run out of stamina though you saying you need to play the same song 400-500 times in an event indicates that either you're a total madman who actually wants to get rank 1 in every event which gets you absolutely nothing but e-peen or you're just a liar and haven't actually played it. I'm inclined to think it's the latter.

Compass has updated, the main stuff today is some hero balance and updated chat messages. The chat options have been reset, so you'll need to change them again.

There is a free one-time 31 pull gacha available until the 30th for the end of the Heisei era. The UR rate is 2% so make sure you use it.

For hero balance, buffs all round today.
Marcos:

Megumegu:

It has no creeps, no money, no shops or equipment, no lanes, no towers, wells or jungles, no skills to choose from on level ups and no involved team synergy or picking. The matches don't take 30 minutes, you're not farming and your objective isn't to destroy the enemy base. It has quite literally as much in common with Dota or LoL as Overwatch does as in that it's a low player count PvP game with characters that have skills. In fact if you had to pull some sort of ass-backwards comparison to an existing game because that's the only way your simple mind can process things, I'd probably say that structurally it's closest to the domination game mode from Call of Duty.

Her niches are she can stun and can act as secondary attacker because her high stat. I remember sometimes ago some whale try to use her with Grea with limit success. I think her problem is the same as any magic char who does not have tp boost. “Halloween Shinobu” is going to aoe her apart. Just 100% completed Ancient heroes with SH Eleanor. Even without the proper elements, her monstrous gigas power is more than enough to destroy literally everything. Then again, this is an old-ass Ancient quest so the mobs here are relatively weaker than with the recent quests.

Alot has changed since then they've nerfed the crit skill into oblivion and the monthly bosses are now easier. If you really want a challenge they let you do the monthly boss on steroids but all you get from that is a title you can show online nothing important is locked behind it. The issue I had with GFL is that everything about it was extremely grindy like mod3 or the (bullshit) fairy system on top of it having a LSC system while they didn't run events that often and were mostly just filler stuff until a main event or a collab came so I ended up dropping it. Game felt like it had an extreme amount of grind at every corner and not enough content to justify the insane grinds.

The difference with AL is that the limiteds are available via crafting. You don't need to go out of your way to grind and, if you're a veteran player, you're more than likely sitting on a stockpile of 600+ cubes so it's easy to obtain botes. Compare this to GFL or KC where you can grind for a week straight and not get lucky and there's a big difference between the two, even if they follow the same sort of schedule/gameplay loop. My problem with AL is the fact that, as a veteran JP player, there's just fuck all to do because we're doing the event loop again to sync up EN which is super annoying as it means there's genuinely nothing to do a lot of the time. Thankfully we've gotten W9 hard, W13 and the new paper botes to at least do SOMETHING in the game but for many months now I've played the game like 5 minutes per day at most purely because there was nothing to do outside of clearing daily hard modes, daily raids and restocking the dorm.

I can't ever see it that way. With managing four different resources, having to keep logistics up, mod3, fairies, LSC for guns, LSC for fairies, the entire shitty system for getting fairies up, having to farm for drops and needing 3+ fully leveled optimal squads for events GFL is way more grindy.

AL has a ton more room to be lazy considering you only have two resources, you'll only ever sortie two fleets at once due to game limitations and the exp requirement for PR ships is actually lowered for PR2 which would be the big grindo the game.

The basics of the game themselves are not that hard and it's not that far from poker for example. Take it from someone who said the same as you not too long ago. You have 13 tiles (cards) in your hand, each time it's your turn you draw one and discard one constantly trying to arrange your hand into FOUR SETS (three of the same tile, four of the same tile or a three tile sequence i.e. 1 2 3, each set needs to be of the same suit so you can't combine sticks and circles) AND A PAIR (just two of the same tile and against same suits). That's the basic goal and the simple part.

The confusing part is that on top of that you need a YAKU in the hand which is basically a specific set of tiles because otherwise it would be too easy and quick.
The hardest part is remembering all the yaku and reading what tiles are most likely to show up. You can avoid remembering yaku at the beginning by just going for a couple of easy ones.
The easiest one is YAKUHAI where you go for the basic four sets+pair and make one of those sets from three dragon tiles (so three green, red or white tiles) or three of the turn wind or your own wind both which are always indicated on the table. You can take tiles from other players' discards when going for this one.
RIICHI is an easy one where you try and get the basic four sets+pair WITHOUT getting any tiles from other players' discards and thus keeping your hand closed (so just ignore all pon, chii and kan calls, read what kind of hands your opponents have based on their discards, adjust your hand accordingly and hope you draw the tiles you need (or just pick a direction to go at at the start and go towards that without thinking too much, works more often than you might think even if it doesn't lead to high scoring hands)). Once you're one tile from completing the four sets+pair you'll call riichi, bet 1000 points and go into autopilot until you either draw the tile you need, someone discards it and you fuck them or gets a yaku before you and you lose the 1000 points.
Tanyao is another easy yaku where you get the four sets+pair by having no 1 or 9 tiles and no winds or dragons.

There's a lot of other things like doras, scoring rules and such but they're not key to winning and once you get the basic flow of the game you'll integrate all that pretty easily as you go. There are a lot of beginner's guides to mahjong like https://mahjong.guide/a-beginners-guide-to-riichi-mahjong/ for example. If you're like me and anime girls make it easier to enjoy something you could read some Saki to get used to the concepts and then read some guide while playing some mahjong against AI with a long or no turn timer so you can really look and follow the tiles. Also remember that just by reading a simple guide you're way ahead of the secondaries spilling from Azur Lane global to the english client.

Game itself seems like it's pretty well made. A couple of typos but it's not the typical SEAnglish. Can't reroll which is a bummer. Great emotes.

It's hard to put it in any fewer words or much simpler to be honest. The character limit on posts certainly doesn't help. Someone else who is more experienced with mahjong might be able to but I've only been actively looking at mahjong for like a week or less. It's still a board game and those tend to have rules so there's always going to be a bit of learning curve. Definitely don't start looking at yakus and trying to memorise them. That's way too much if you're having trouble grasping the basics of the game. You'll need to be full of Rain man to pull that off.

I say if you actually want to get into the game just start playing against AI at https://www.gamedesign.jp/flash/mahjong/mahjong_e.html and just go for a riichi everytime until you get one and win a round to see what happens during a game. And just to reiterate, to get a riichi just ignore all the things that pop up when it's not your turn (chii, pon and kan) and just try to form those four sets and a pair by drawing tiles normally. Example of a winning hand in the picture and how it's structured. The game prompts tsumo and ron calls automatically so don't worry about those.

There are currently a lot of people playing on the english client who can't even differentiate the tiles even though they're annotated in the corners just to give you an idea of the playing field and to remind you to not think about it too much.

Dunno if there's a way currently. The game differentiates between free and paid jade so there will most likely be a way in the future. Maybe you earn some by winning in either the higher tier rooms or in tournaments.

Is there any way to turn off team FX for real, or to play in potato mode?

I can't see shit in clustered fights and I freeze a lot with Nox. I'm pretty sure my PC specs are more than enough to emulate honkers (i5 4870k and GTX 970).

If it isn't on the settings page no. There's more things that can affect performance than specs. Check if virtualization is enabled on your bios and if there isn't another software using it, turn off core isolation and make sure the emulator is using your dedicated card. The emulator should be given at least 2GB memory but not too much or else you'll slow down your system which in turn is going to slow down the emulator. OpenGL/DirectX modes also can affect performance because they work in different ways.

They're rewards for reading/skipping permanent story (you don't get the usual 3 gems in return). Surely changing that for the rest would be way too much nonsense even for Kusopl. Not to mention the rest definitely won't suddenly get skills and non-copypasta stats to warrant that.

There is gacha but all the characters in it are basically just avatars. On top of that the gacha has stuff like gifts to give the girls to raise affection and decorations like table mats, tile backs or riichi sticks. The game itself is just mahjong with no skills or special rules at least now. I could see them adding some sort of casual and quick mode where the characters play a more active role in the future.

He's Piana without the barriers. Super glass cannon but his backstab damage is crazy high, doing a lot more than even Chaguma Tina's S3 after her buff. Seems fun to play since you can stay in steath forever and potentially broken for harder content since Meisekai Kasumi still sees use.

Better than I was expecting since Sadaharu generates SP and contributes to the 10 hits needed to give you the barrier. When the enemy is debuffed she hits hard but not as hard as the other two, seems fairly weak although the summon is nice.
