Well, there goes the cat hint. At least Wan Nyan is a bit more interesting than just cat girls by adding dog girls into the mix. Both seem to be somewhat sizable sex heavy titles, hence why they aren't going on Steam.

MG doing a simulrelease is interesting, though we'll have to see of the next When They Cry is any good. MG should finish up Hou as fast as possible though; they still have 3 parts left to do after the answer arcs are finished. Neither the Sakuracon nor the Anime Boston titles seem like titles that were to be announced last year, interestingly enough (Sakura hint game and Sorcery Jokers hint game), but maybe they got stalled until Anime Central or outright cancelled. The Sakura hint game might have been Escalayer (but that's a stretch since sakura trees only appear prominently in the H-OVA) and Sorcery Jokers may have never have been a hint in the first place to be fair.

The next three secret projects should be announced at Anime Central in either case.

Going off of the original text, it was rough and not great - but it got the point across. I'm not going to say it's good or up to par for modern standards, but it felt like it was sufficient for an older translation. I'd imagine a lot of people read some GARBAGE translations over the years and thought they were fine. Also, some of the translations in there were just really a lack of understanding of English which would work with an editor, but still somewhat came out correct with Jap -> English.

I'd like to do an analysis of the later stuff that was supposedly better than what gave the IC translation the "MTL" tag though. Still need to do that.

The problem is the gulf between the writer and the translator. Maruto is a good enough writer that the qualities of his text go beyond just content into other areas like rhythm, wittiness of tone, character voice. And I don't trust that any translator group that was already shit in the past can magically reach the level of being able to convey those qualities unless they hired Oscar Wilde, or someone with writing talent that can go beyond bringing over literal content, as an editor or something.

Just an example I remember is that in IC, Maruto used 3 四字熟語 to describe the music band falling apart in the 2nd scene. The group translated the core meaning (falling apart) without bringing in anything to match the wittiness of the comparisons Maruto uses. That's kind of like translating Shakespeare's "slings and arrows of outrageous fortunes" as "lots of bad unlucky shit". If you were dealing with some random nukige or moege where those qualities are lessened, it would be more acceptable as a TL since the gulf is lessened. That's also the main reason why no one wants to acknowledge the TL, the same way people lament the 3 Cross Channel TLs.

Don't bother. I played through the first 30 or so minutes of their CC "translation" and it's even worse, with several passages that reading like they didn't receive a single editing pass. The editor for the project openly admitted they got bored in some parts, and the general attitude from them is that it's good enough that they're moving on to tackle Coda. It's quite remarkable how such a high profile VN managed to attract such an incompetent, tone deaf group of buffoons. If my Japanese was good enough to tackle this, I'd quietly work on a proper translation and push it out right before they're done with Coda to spite them.

MG has only has two license announcements each of the past three years at Anime Central, and 3 of those 6 were Funbag Fantasy announcements. It has historically been MG's convention with the weakest set of license announcements as they usually will put some focus on AX prep with announcements of hard copies to be released the week of AX and AX guests. On that note though, an Evenicle hard copy announcement to be released for AX seems like a relatively safe bet for Anime Central this year.

To be fair, most imperial measurements are multiples of 4: 12 inches in a foot, 4 quarts in a gallon, 16 ounces in a pound, 1760 yards in a mile, and even 2000 pounds in a ton. Well, there's 3 feet in a yard and 2 pints in a quart, but still. It's more common to divide an item into 4ths than it is to divide it into tenths, which is probably why the imperial system is the way that it is. As for why distance conversion factors involve multiples of 3s while the weight doesn't is beyond me though, and Fahrenheit is admittedly indefensible.

Out of curiosity, are degrees (as in the ones used to measured angles) most common internationally or do people use gradians? If the latter is true, then you're still using imperial measurements, if only because it's way easier to use 360 as a basis for dividing up than it is to use 400.

Besides, nowadays, the inch is defined on the basis of the centimeter. 2.54 cm or 1 inch, does it really matter?

All right. First, it's edited Google Translate. It's always been edited Google Translate. It's a group that does nothing but edit Google Translate. They say things are "manually translated" meaning that it wasn't just run through Google Translate and put in without looking at it.

Second, they started this particular machine translation over a year ago. At the rate they're going, it'll take them nearly three years to finish editing Google Translate for a game that doesn't even crack 40,000 lines. That wouldn't be fast even if they were translating it like real people.
