Zun hires artists for his official manga releases of touhou, he doesn't do it for his games because he wants to do it all.

It's kind of like the little 14 year old shits who don't know anything about making videos that want to make video games so they think they can do it all themselves, except Zun actually can do it all himself.

For better or worse, there wouldn't be nearly as much fanart if the official art was actually good. Having such terrible drawings kind of inspires people to hop on the bandwagon and make their own rendition.

ZUN's art is just like his perception: away from generic, commercial drawing. It seems sucky, but it is, in fact, unique. It's called technique. Besides, I bet if the girls were drawn "normally", Touhou wouldn't have been half as popular.

Kaguya manages to survive because of the Hourai Elixer. Yuka is the only one who can do it naturally due to her raw power being far greater than anybody else. Yukari (border manipulation), Flandre (destruction of the concept), Shiki (too important to die), Suika (kind've does it already, but could do it the same way Yuka does), the like could do it potentially.

I'm working on a Touhou like game, too bad I don't have a graphics designer. I'm just using the textures and sprites from CtC and MoF. Since I'm doing this I'm not planning on actually realeasing it until I get someone to make me some original sprites, backgrounds, etc.

The problem is that... is fucking hard to find a pixel artist.
