Magecraft refers to accomplishing something that might be difficult or time-consuming via utilizing the powers mentioned above. As you mentioned the gems, taht's an example. It takes a fair amount of time to create smokeless gunpowder, a casing, primer and bullet and more to create the weapon to fire it from. Creating a bullet by utilizing prana and flowing it into a prepared gemstone accomplishes the same task "easier". It's basically a shortcut.
But then you have to consider that the gem probably cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars and it took hundreds of years of precise eugenics to breed a high potential individual like Rin Tohsaka. Just creating a gun is probably easier.

Magic (or Sorcery) is the realm of the impossible and separate from magecraft. Magic refers to things that can not be accomplished via science, such as time travel, dimensional manipulation, materialization of the soul etc. Most magecraft was considered magic at one point in history until science caught up and made it possible. Communicating wirelessly over long distances was the realm of magic once, but now it is common and science has created methods superior to magecraft to accomplish this.
Eventually (if humanity survives) all the feats of Magic will be accomplished via science and true miracles will no longer exist.

The different thing about FATE system is that it also can summon servant from both the ToH and Saint Graph Registering (basically a data about every servants that Chaldea has met before). I'm the mahoyo translation anon who's lazy and is waiting for the other guy to deliver an update before going on, but the difficulty of the mahoyo translation isn't understanding the japanese text, it's creating english text that doesn't read like garbage.

most of the game is written in third person narration, and the nature of japanese just allows the author to have a lot more freedom.

nasu can writea 5 sentence scene for example, where the only states who is performing said actions directly at the very start. english pretty much forces you to throw a "he" into every single sentence, because you can't build a sentence without an actor.

just going ctrl+f on my script for "he" and "she" or "her" "his" makes me depressed

you HAVE to work all the time, it's very different from any project that isn't live-service. I really doubt they'll ever sign up for another gacha game. Higashide and Sakurai were told by nasu to scale down their non-fgo activites by a large margin for as long as the project is running. back then nasu had no way of knowning fgo would become this succesful, and I really think a big reason for why he's pushing the lostbelt arc to the big finish is because he feels bad about binding pretty much all of his friends and colleagues to a project that could very well never be "finished" at all unless he says it is.

It's probably less the actual workload and more the fact that even if you can't come up anything good, you still have to write. let's take all the seasonal event shit for example, someone has to attempt to make that good every single year, and if they delay it even a little bit they fuck up the entire dev team. the work on sprites for example starts months in advance, if all that shit is already mostly done before you have the story finalized you can't even rewrite the whole thing because you just came up with an awesome idea. you can delay VNs, you can't delay a game update.

It honestly just encourages shit quality all around, and it's also the reason why I think recently FGO holiday events had very little to do with the holiday at all. everyone can't be fucking bothered anymore so they do shit like samba-wrestling tournament on christmas and a valentines event that is just adding murasaki.

Yeah it was definitely better than everything else so far, though I can't help but think Tsukihime is overrated now that I'm very close to completing it. I was bored during long periods of times and it took Hisui's route itself like 11 days to shine. I'll get the last ending tomorrow. I plan on playing Kagetsu Tohya and Melty Blood too.

I didn't think it was boring. I liked the slow pace, it wasn't that slow and it moved well with a good share of light sol and action.
I think that's one of the strongest feature of Tsukihime, this tensed and dreamy atmostphere all along.
It wasn't hectic neither it was boring, it felt just good.

The only time I could possibly think it was boring was the Hisui route because of the setup in the room for the whole route. But even so, I found it entertaining, thanks to the great atmosphere again.
