I read the plot for CtC and I'm actually pissed off by such a stupid take on Gensokyo. The story is all sentimental and "shippey" as fuck, and the characters act as if they are only mere shadows of their former shelves. and what the fuck, nearly everyone dies no matter the ending. I truly hope ZUN never comes to make such a stupid storytelling choice for the final Touhou game. This shit doesn't suit the series at all.

To be specific, on my HSiFS runs, I pretty much always hit the ~55 seconds mark when Narumi triggers her second spellcard, just when the music turn it up to eleven. That spellcard is so satisfying to dodge too, this precise moment always feel so good.

I liked to imagine it was referencing her Infinite Superspeed Flying Object spellcard from IaMP's story mode instead, because it's a good match in the bullshit department. yes, "Vsync = 0" in the ini means vpatch's vsync is off. but it's still disabling the game's vsync (the source of input delay in pre-mof games [maybe just eosd and pcb, i'm not sure]), so it's still doing stuff when you launch vpatch.

you might not need vsync at all (depends on your setup) so that's probably why it's off by default. i think it's supposed to be lagless, but it might be a 0-1 frame deal.

A lot of them are so bonkers to dodge there's no real safe window to get a hit -- especially with how IaMP handle story mode spellcards (boss has hyperarmor most of the card and can only be comboed at certain more or less tight moment in the spellcard). Remilia's Bad Lady Scramble and Yuyuko's Weeping Higan Cherry of Hakugyokurou for instance. Also hahahahahaha Pandemonium.
Even Youmu's Double Pain, that doesn't have any danmaku, is straight up unfair with her intangible clones spamming fuckhueg shoryukens and long low sweeps.

In the end my best strategy was to abuse player's spellcards, espcially those who gives invulnerability. Woooops, turns out ALL your bars get depleted once the boss' spellcard ends, so you'd better plan their usage.

How long did it take you to get comfortable with lunatic mode? I still can't 1cc anything on normal (I can usually make it to stage 5 or stage 6 on most games.)

How do you micro dodge? I got decent at anticipating and finding safe paths through danmaku but when it comes to precision manœuvring I feel like my character doesn't do what I want. My issue is mainly movement speed, it's too fucking fast, even focused I feel like the smallest tap has a 50% chance of sending me crashing into a bullet.

The all in one pack on Nyaa comes with vpatch configured for the games it matters for, the original un-renamed Japanese executables and assets, and the static English patches if you're really curious or nostalgic or whatever. Easy to install thcrap over. Doesn't have AoCF or VD but it's not like it's hard to make those work. Not as "easy" as direct zip downloads but it's not like installing Gentoo.

Should I feel bad I've never beaten a Touhou game, much less 1cc'ed one? Keep in mind I don't grind and today is actually the first time I bothered to play in a long time.
I've mostly played EoSD, and so know that the best, but would another game be better to try to beat/1cc instead? I have practice for every stage and extra unlocked (at least in EoSD, not sure if all games do) because I got the games from my friend back in high school if that changes anything, and playing on a laptop.

Are there any other shmups that would be good training for touhou? I'm starting to get burned out, these games are unforgiving, a tiny mistake early on and your odds of seeing the good ending just turned to zero.

I tried clearing every single extra stage in order until touhou 11 (which I haven't beaten yet), for me the easiest stages are those three you mentioned. Koishi, Nue and Hecatia are the hardest ones to me.

Came back after taking it easy for a few years, and I'm really dissapointed by Violet Detector. Why did ZUN even bother adding the second half the game? Instead of phoning it in he should have made less stages with actually new attacks. At least LoLK and HSiFS were great, although LoLK's stage 5 would be a lot more fun with more raw dodging and less memoshit.

You know, I had literally never seen any of the characters from UFO to DDC on /jp/ before I played the games. And I still haven't seen any other than byakuren.

Compare to LOLK which has Clownpiece and Junko. Clownpiece is a fairy, insane, and has AMERICA memes going for her. Junko is mad as fuck and has a unique design and boss battle.
