Post photographs and videos you or others have taken around Japan.
Modern or traditional, urban or rural, landscape or macro, anything is good.

Try to keep pictures natural looking if possible.
If you know the location a photo was taken, it is useful to post it with the image.

>> No.21085070

Well, you got a lot of options.

A huge DSLR is overkill a lot of the time and mirrorless exists now, take this from someone who owns a full-frame DSLR.
To be blunt if you just want to have a camera that you can take with you get an APS-C mirrorless with a nice lens which will take just as good pictures as a APS-C DSLR but if you really want to shoot in low light then you get a full-frame camera which can be really expensive if you don't know what you're looking for.
Though full frame is overkill for most situations and a tripod will do more good than a full frame sensor will for low light, full frame is just really nice for handheld shooting and getting extremely sharp images, the most important thing is that you get a camera you'll like to use.
I'd be more than happy to recommend you stuff but not here, I'll post a gear thread on /p/ and just ask there a long with your budget and I'll give you some options and things to consider.

That is, objectively, incorrect. Cameras with interchangeable lenses typically have a physically larger sensor (I don't mean pixel count) and that sensor is almost certainly of better quality than a compact or other camera with a permanently attached lens. The one lens that an anon owns will almost certainly also have better glass, better/faster focus, less vignetting and less chromatic aberration. That's not to say that a camera with a permanently attached lens can't take good photos. But this is verging on OT for here.
Ultimately, the best camera is the one that you have on you.

It depends on your needs.

Many people are happy with just a cellphone snap, and considering how most people view the images they take now-a-days (a small phone screen or highly compressed facebook uploads) a cellphone camera is more than good enough for almost every situation.

That said, a dedicated large sensor camera has a considerable improvement in image quality. Especially at larger sizes. You will be better able to recover data from the shadows, more flexible with cropping options due to the higher resolution and sharper lenses, and you can take images in darker lighting situations without a tripod. For low light, a larger sensor is usually better, modern advanced sensor tech can only compensate so much. Another advantage to larger sensors is increased ease of getting ‘bokeh.’ The blurry background you can get in images.

Honestly, I think a dedicated large sensor camera is well worth the trouble, though I do have to admit there are times where I wish I had something like the GRII or RX100IV I could just pocket and always have on me.

A good mirrorless can be had for cheap though. Something like the NEX-6 or a6000 is a considerable step up from a cellphone. While it is getting a little older now in regards to firmware and sensor tech, it is still very capable and uses a very popular lens mount. And while the pancake zoom it comes with isn’t even half as good as a Canon L lens, it is considerably better than a cellphone and makes the a6000 actually pocketable. There are lots of other affordable options for beginners too, such as the Fuji or Canon crop mirrorless bodies.

Personally, I have a fullframe digital body, but find myself using old film bodies more than anything else lately. I find post processing film a lot easier for me (mainly because there isn’t much to it and I hate post processing/suck at it).

>> No.21090128

>>21088959
depends, I'd usually agree with you but FF and APS-C point and shoots exists, the FF ones are very expensive though and there's only a few APS-C ones that are actually good.
I do however prefer ILCs because it gives me the choice in lenses and lets me have specialized lenses for different situations which is a neat perk.
nothing really beats a ricoh GR, RX100 or pentax MX-1 though when it comes to usability in your pocket as you need to carry a DSLR or MILC(if you don't use a pancake lens) around your shoulder or in a bag.
I think it all depends on what you're shooting and how you're shooting but the most importing thing is that you use your camera.

Compacts are great. Since the entire market got ravaged by camera phones, most of what is left is good. Overall image quality is considerably better than a phone. Since the sensors are small, it allows you to put a pretty nice zoom lens into a small package. Sony’s RX100 series is probably top of the line. If you know you are going to do most of your sightseeing during the day, and you want the extra zoom, it is worth looking into.

The problem with these tiny sensors is that they suck in low light. A modern fullframe sensor would feel like night vision comparatively.

I think African warlords kidnapping children and turning them into child soldiers aren't really as bad as these kinds of people because at least the African warlords have some reason or objective for what they do, and are more or less just behaving logically/proactively under their circumstances. Attention starved people acting out in public for the sake of a couple photos are several times worse because they do it for no reason at all, and are far more unstable and dangerous to civilization.

>So much disrespectful shit goes on in this country from foreigners and natives alike
When you're admitted to a country for the purposes of sightseeing, you are obliged to behave well out of courtesy to the people who live there. Sure, you see Japan as a grand, foreign land, but to the people who live in the apartments in that picture? It's their home, and you are a guest. You have an obligation to not do things like climb on top of a vending machine. How could you not understand this? The streets of Japan are not your playground, and you should know better than to act like an impish child, regardless of your attempt to deflect blame by vaguely pointing fingers at other people. It's one issue for someone to be rude to someone they live with. It's an entirely separate (and more offensive) issue for a visitor/guest to spit in your eye and jump all over the furniture with their shoes on after being allowed permission to come inside. If a total stranger did that in your home, you know you'd kick them out. Don't lie and say that you wouldn't.

I'd highly recommend kanazawa, it's got everything you'd get in a bigger city but compressed into a smaller area - traditional wooden buildings, a castle, good shopping - but it feels much more intimate than Tokyo. Plus cheaper (that photo's taken from the Crowne Plaza near the station which is pricey but a hotel like that would've been completely out of my price range in Tokyo).

A plaque showing the lyrics of the school song.

"School Song
By Jumi Togawa

1. The joy of learning in our abundant hometown is a great blessing to that familiar towns-person. The shining sun of the morning and evening gazes in reverence upon that distinguished achievement.

2. If for now you are a sapling of knowledge and virtue, through strong and correct upbringing, before long you will blossom like flowers into the world and cast brilliant light upon our abundant hometown."

Dang, I hadn't actually taken the time to read that until now and I'm a bit moved.

It was a little bit bittersweet. 物の哀れ, I guess. I met some nice older ladies there that took a liking to me(they saw me signing the blackboard as アメリカの一番けいおんファンが来た! and wanted to know why I knew Japanese) and decided they were going to give my friend and I a guided tour of the school(that was one of them whose face I pixelated above). They were all in their 50s, so they would have attended a nearly identical school as kids, and they told us about their memories. It makes me happy to know that the school is maintained as a museum of Showa-era government schools. One of the ladies told me that the school building was extremely close to being demolished 10 years ago, and if I recall correctly it was partially because of the anime that they decided to leave it standing and build the new elementary school next door, instead.
