They both can be informative in their own way.

The real underdog that often gets overlooked is deviation. My way of thinking is not perfect, but the way I see it is:
1-8 is general consensus reached and you can trust the score
9-16 is controversial and you have to see with your own eyes what it's all about
17+ is either extremely polar meme shit, or the game is so new and has such a small number of votes that looking at score is pointless

Now look at Evenicle 2, it has 26. And a week ago it was 35 or something, because it was released just a bit more than a week ago. It needs more time and people completing it.

Seriously though, why are VNs so shit with using music? Scene starts and you get blasted with generic super sad music nr. 246523462, even though nothing even happened yet that would make you think it's perhaps not so happy. Thanks music. Likewise, overly dramatic music is really way too commonly used even though the scene is nowhere near as dramatic, destroying the mood.

It might have been quite plausible that with some different flow of events, if the MacArthur plan, demilitarization, or the political purge was botched for example, instead of integration into the Western world order and political alignment with the US, Japan might have turned to isolation, hardcore nationalism, or alignment with the USSR like North Korea or North Vietnam.
That nuking would've been used as a rallying call of blatant anti-Americanism, revenge for national humiliation, and revanchism in that case.

Japanese culture would've been vastly different nowadays in that case and we certainly won't be here discussing Japanese eroge on this board.

Not how I would put my complaint, but that's how the end result often feels like. What usually bothers me about trap protags is that many games never seem to fully capitalize into the fetish and they often have some sort of flimsy excuse for the protagonist grudgingly cross-dressing against his will instead. But despite that reluctance we almost never get any gap moe moments where the protag actually likes "boys' stuff" or something else to make him even remotely relatable, so he really just ends up being a de facto girl with a dick. Also take a sip every time a trap game makes the tired old joke about the protagonist being the most feminine character in the cast.

On the flip side I really like they tend to get fully voiced more often than regular male protags, but that's about it.

I really love Ayumu Sara voice and the characters she voices, but every time I listen to a stream or a radio she is in, my love for her work just get less.

Probably not - to put it very simply, SCA-Ji is far more intelligent than anyone reading this thread, including myself. There are a great deal of very high level concepts in 終ノ空II and any aspiring reader is going to need to accept that he probably doesn’t understand it all. From there, you reach the point of actually researching and interpreting all this shit, which could take years, honestly. And then you also have to consider that the vast majority of people just don’t have the level of reading comprehension or education necessary to really start to approach interpreting and understanding 終ノ空II on anything but a surface level.

Finished Sugar*Style, gonna write some thoughts since I remember seeing someone asking about it a few threads ago.

I liked the dorm/vocational school setting, I think it was used pretty well at least during the common route. The common route was enjoyable with the usual SMEE gags, made better by the fact that all the heroines in this game can be described as ノリがいい and have good chemistry with the MC. The 男の役割 system, in which you choose between 4 "roles" for how the MC contributes to the dorm, changes what events you get during the common route, which made replaying the game 4 times more interesting than the usual "hold-ctrl through common".
The actual routes and romance parts in general were a bit disappointing compared to their past titles. I'm not sure if it's connected to Hayase Yuu being listed as director instead of scenario writer, but I found the writing a lot weaker.　Although the games that Hayase Yuu wrote for all basically had the same formula, he used that formula well. I didn't get that same level of enjoyment from the writing of this game, although Ichika's route was close. One thing in particularly that bothered me was the hints and references to the MCs past and his family throughout the game, which wasn't really ever expanded upon. Same goes for the plotline of him joining the school in order to find his own passion, which is treated more like an afterthought than a main part of the the story in most of the routes. MC's role in general was done better in previous titles.
Still, the heroines of this game are great, which is why I was compelled to finish all of their routes. Some of the BGM tracks are fantastic and the art is also decent, better than making lovers and kanojo step at least. I loved Ichika's seiyuu, who I only noticed afterwards also voiced Senri from PriministAr, another one of my favorite heroines. Basically, play this game if you're someone who enjoyed their past titles, for the token comedy and the heroines, i.e. the reasons you read SMEE games in the first place. My ranking for the routes is Ichika >>> Kaname > Mao >> Hare.
SMEE games are really a guilty pleasure of mine, especially as a sort of 癒し between reading heavier games. I'll be pretty sad if they ever stop making games like this. Anyways, that's enough rambling on this game. Planning on playing 機械仕掛けのイヴ next.

Bros I completely lost it at the end of Alive, can somebody explain to a brainlet whats up with the motherstone and if I’m right ? I know the author probably didn’t think this through much but my autism compels me.
So, first we have this crystal alien thingie which feeds on souls. Since reaching earth, the thing broke up into particles when it entered the atmosphere from its seed/meteor form and landed right into Kouki’s town.
That’s the reason nobody discovered it for some time right? And the particles started infecting the citizens slowly devouring their souls turning them into crystal zombie thingies except the cast of course since it kinda binded them to itself and made them as sort of a sample, a model through which it learned about humanity.
But here’s the thing, where is exactly the motherstone’s real form located? How did it enter the soul world? I don’t understand, wasn’t it a somewhat physical organism? Is it located on earth but in between different dimensions from where it utilizes houseki which Kouki retardely spread across the world from that little fragment to devour souls?
But then what’s up with THE motherstone which grew as big as as it did? I know it’s because Kouki cut parts of it to insert them into different houki thus only activating the crystal’s wish granting power to convert 魔素 into a physical phenomena, allowing people to use magic but it still devours a part of their souls albeit more slowly right? Hence why the motherstone managed to grow as big as it did, but then if you do destroy the stone itself nothing will happen(despite obviously when he first broke the horns in the past his friends instantly snapped out of it) to the actual body since it doesn’t exist in physical form? But then it’s not only that motherstone there are many other motherstones that could’ve grown from something as simple as some other horns in a totally different part of the world from some other infected person so why is that stone so special?

Not to mention it doesn’t make sense how having Kouki overwrite and cut off the fate of the original samples makes it possible for the motherstone to suddenly lose its gripe on all other houseki and all the humanity in the process. If that’s so it was somehow depending on the samples and the original 7 souls which it binded to itself to be able to devour souls of other humans and when it lost them it went full retarded?
Also since it apparently landed only in Japan how it did the motherstone affect the birth rates and everything across the world? This is before Kouki analyzed and invented magic basically. Or did the particles hit not only that area but the whole world when it first broke up in the atmosphere?
I have no idea, especially what the guy who wrote this was on.

Is it weird if I don't like kouhai heroines simply because the senpai-kouhai dynamic feels too distant and unromantic? It's adorable to have a cute kouhai calling me senpai in the common route but after the first H-scene I kinda expect the relationship to feel closer and more intimate, and the way the heroine just keeps calling the MC senpai and using keigo despite how they're supposedly in a deep relationship feels like there's an extra barrier keeping them apart.

It's especially bad when I see the kouhai heroine with her friends or her family and she's using tameguchi and calling them by their names. I feel strangely jealous when this happens, why can't she be that relaxed and informal around the MC even though they're dating? It's like some weird form of NTR.

With Watanabe's new game releasing soon, I was reminiscing a bit about Sumikko Soft. Their tachie work with the characters moving all over the screen, jumping etc. was really, really cool. And not just at the beginning of new lines, but mid way through or multiple times in the same line even. It was a big part in making their games feel lively and energetic. I dunno who was responsible for that and if it will be a thing on his new game, probably not, but I hope so. They did get one of the artists that did some work at Sumikko, but that's probably more of a thing one of the scripters did? That kind of work seems to be rarely credited properly.

The bully route is what I can expect from a bullying VN, but the good route's ending feels disappointing for me; after all that heartwarming moments with Honoka and her finally have the heart to resist the bullies, the ending has her being chained by MC and he fucking her in front of her family's grave? It ruins the whole premise for me, I expected better from the VN since it bothers to include non-H couple scenes during the route. I hope I can find another VN with similar theme to remove the bad aftertaste from this.

It depends on the VN.
If it's based on a popular engine with a script extractor then you only need to extract the script and apply some text processing to get only meaningful lines which could be easily counted without technical information.
If it isn't based on a popular engine then you'll either have to write an extractor yourself or employ hooking techniques.

The only Hulotte game I've played is KamiYaba but it wasn't anything like that, the common route is really short and you only get a single choice before going into one the main routes. Most of the girls don't show any romantic interest towards the MC before their route starts.
